Halo 3 ODST and Relic map for Halo MCC releasing next month

I'll probaby jump back in one the update hits. I think odst should just be free for everyone because of the condition of the game, I bought it about 2 3 months ago and it wasn't even working all that great then.

I honestly can't believe this is free for playing before an arbitrary date, even though it continued to be broken for another 2 months.

They should just give it away free to everyone to try and build the community back up.

ODST's soundtrack is GOAT.

And I really do hope they port Reach at some point. But I'd want the full package, not just the campaign.

Just remember that the map is free for anyone, but ODST still has the 19th December cut-off date attached to it. So, if you didn't play the MCC before the 19th, you aren't getting ODST for free. Unless 343i says otherwise.

I really wish they'd make ODST free for everyone who purchased and played MCC in 2014. I missed the cutoff by five days! : (
A ton of people missed the cutoff by five days. That was likely deliberate in their decision to place the cutoff on the 19th. Imagine the loss of potential ODST buyers if they pushed it back a week or two.

Probably a Microsoft thing. They can be really difficult about releasing things for free sometimes. For example in Halo 3, they only let Bungie release Cold Storage for free by requiring it to be tied to the Legendary map pack in matchmaking. I can't imagine they were thrilled at the idea of funding a port of an entire game and distributing it for free.

Yeah, that especially sucks. It's not like the multiplayer was actually fixed after that cutoff date.
But by that point you should have known what you were getting into if you bought it. It would be a nice gesture to just make it free for everyone though.

People have been discussing this from the first few posts. Do you know how much it'll cost those who didn't play before the cutoff? The size of the file, or potential firefight DLC later on down the line?

If ODST is in, there's no reason not to have Reach. I love me some invasion.

At this point Reach is only a matter of time. They can't leave it at six out of seven Halo FPS campaigns on one console.

And honestly, I think Halo Wars is coming sooner or later too (though probably not part of MCC haha). We're way too close to every Halo game period on a single console.

They held back releasing Halo 2 via Xbox Originals on the 360 even though there was no technical reason that prevented it. If they hadn't had done that, every single Halo game up to this point would be available digitally on the 360.

We can probably guess why they did that.

The price is unknown, but I'd say it can't possibly be less than $10 or more than $15. Probably $10. File size is also unknown but on 360 it was 3.47 GB, so you can expect to be around that. Firefight's potential for returning is also unknown, but I would be pretty surprised if it didn't come. As mentioned earlier, it will probably release eventually with Reach's Firefight (Reach is unannounced, but it seems almost a certainty).

This isretty exciting, a good way to get even more hyped for E3 and Halo 5. Will get it as soon as it is out.

I really hope we see a future disc release with everything included of MCC. Ducks how most of the game only functions through digital.

There actually is. Halo 3: ODST is based of the Halo 3 engine, which makes it mich easier to oort the game over to the MCC, since the engine is already there.

Reach is using an other engine and I very much doubt it's comming to the MCC. As a standalone title? Maybe...

Arround the same size as it originally was probably. Not sure about the price or Firefight. They didn't say anthing about that, but if you ask me 14,99$ and Firefight never comming to MCC ODST.

Because they never really cared that much about supporting Xbox Originals anyway? Because at the time you could still buy it in stores and was still doing very well? Because they were attempting to push the Vista version?

I'm really not sure what conclusion you're trying to jump to here.

Bet you anything they fuck this up and it comes up ay "Buy now" for people it should be free for. This game has been such a clusterfuck id be shocked if this DIDN'T happen on a wide scale.

I honestly don't think ODST being based on the H3 engine made it much easier to port than Reach. First of all, the ODST engine actually had numerous changes anyway, so it's not like they could just port the assets and mission scripting onto the ported Halo 3 engine and call it a day. They'd also have to go back and individually port all the various improvements, tweaks, and additions Bungie made. I'd be willing to bet they ported ODST from scratch rather than working off of the Halo 3 engine they already had.

There's not really that much difference between ODST's engine and Halo 3's. At the absolute least, the existing work on porting Halo 3 would have been a huge starting point and reference.

Also, the same luminance issues and shadow rendering offsets that affect the Halo 3 port also show up in the ODST shots we've gotten. There's clearly common stuff going on.

Thanks. I'd say those estimates are fairly at $10-$15; I was just ballparking how they value each of the titles included and the eventual Reach release, which would be $15 a pop, but we know DLC compared to on-disc content doesn't always weigh out so evenly.

I'm thinking the file size won't weigh in so low (with no real reason as to why) but we'll see.
