Just got back from the theatres. And let me get this out of the way:

Avengers 1 >>> AoU

If you have any specific questions, just ask. I'll do my best to avoid spoilers.

3.5/5

Which characters do you feel were serviced well and which were not?

Was the plot too thin?

Was too much of the film quips/one liners rather than actual dialogue/conversations between characters?

Were the action scenes well choreographed and entertaining? Or mindless?

How much are War Machine and Falcon in the film (if at all)?

Hot Toys official AoU - Ultron Mark 1.0 figure.

(1) Plot - Felt rather thin.

(2) One liners - A lot quips/Whedonisms as usual, but there are a few good lines of dialogue.

(3) Action -
If you loved Winter Soldier's action, lower your expectations a little. Given the more comic-booky, exaggerated nature of The Avengers films (compared to Captain America), the over-the-top action fits perfectly. However, you need good CG to cover that, and this film has surprisingly lower-quality CG, mixed with shaky cam and... Too. Many. Cuts.

(4) Question about characters -
War Machine gets some good action time, for once! Falcon's part is very cameo, probably only 1-2 mins screen time (although the scene where he appears will make you shout "HELL YEAH").

here we go, just got out from my imax viewing. might need to watch it again in 2D.

i personally think it's about the same as winter soldier in action but with more wow moments due to having much more characters to work with.

about ultron:
i don't really read comics so i don't know if i should be disappointed on his potrayal here but i can say that he is spader as villain. his dialogue is good. he doesn't do very much apart from taking an arm of someone but he is effective at what he is supposed to do - creating an evil plan.

if you have questions about some things i'll gladly share some thoughts :)

Happy about #4 there, but the rest is pretty disappointing to hear. Winter Soldier definitely raised the bar for action...and I'm really surprised about
the CG, shaky cam, and cuts.

One more question...does that line about Ultron puking/throwing up or not being able to or whatever actually appear in the movie? Or was it just used in the TV promos? Because it's terrible. You can hear what I'm talking about in this promo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmHpQ40zD3Y

I think this was one of those films where you needed to go on a complete blackout. I think a lot of my enjoyment was taken away by the trailers.

That said, it was still an enjoyable film but fans might need to reel in expectations a little. Agree/disagree?

TV Promo Line:
Yup, that line appears.

Agree, although my expectations about it is a comic book movie where superheroes do awesome stuff and i think this delivered on that front. The villain part could do some work, also the camera work and spotty cg. But at the end of the day i still enjoy it for what it is. Just like I enjoyed TDK for being what it is.

It would be nice if the people who have already seen the movie could try to compare it to the rest of the MCU movies, er even rank them.

How is there no confirmation of the post credit scene yet?

It's a good thing he's saying there isn't one then because I WOULD in fact become irate if I waited and there was nothing lol

Still it's disappointing, it was almost tradition now with MCU movies :(

welp, hype levels lowered by a lot.

Maybe I wont be as disappointed if I expect disappointment.

so is there a post-credits scene?

- Post-Credits (No specific details, but spoiler-ed anyways):
There is a mid-credits scene, and it's extremely brief. No post-credits. Also, one of the "leaked" descriptions is correct and there, so beware!!

It would be nice if the people who have already seen the movie could try to compare it to the rest of the MCU movies, er even rank them.

I don't see how rankings help in any way, but here's mine regardless for your peace of mind. :P

(In no particular order)

--Top Tier--
The Avengers
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man 1

--Meh Tier--
Iron Man 3
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor: The Dark World
Thor

--Bottom Tier--
Iron Man 2
The Incredible Hulk

You seemed to have missed ranking AoU which is what he wanted.

my ranking would be

1. CA: TWS
2. Avengers: AOU
3. GOTG
4. Iron Man
5. Avengers
6. Thor
7. Iron Man 3
8. Other marvel movies

It suffers the same problem as other marvel movies:
Villian

It inherits the greatest thing about winter soldier: The Action (although it evolves beyond that because they have powers)

I rank it below TWS because of the plot, i think i like Cap's struggle more than what tony had in AOU.

The reviews were true though, Hawkguy is awesome here. So is the vision. And that final scene!

I've been approaching this movie like the previous one, a monumental popcorn flick that provides a great time. Intense character development, top shelf plot, these were never among my expectations, though of course it would have been nice. Based on your appraisal, it sounds like I'll have a great time, even if it's not the best thing ever made.

Don't cheapen your expectations, man. Make those Hollywood filmmakers work for your money. We can have all of those things you want and more.

Haha. No, I'm not an extremes kinda guy. I can usually enjoy something for what it is, even if it's flawed. Not being able to do so would mean I wouldn't be able to enjoy a great deal of fun stuff. That's not to say I wont be mildly disappointed if Ultron isn't given his due justice.

So its meh tier?

Which Quicksilver is better: This or X-Men Days of Future Past?

Quicksilver: Spoilered for those who want to decide themselves.

Days of Future Past's Quicksilver wins by a country mile. Although AoU's Quicksilver isn't a slouch either. Just a little less cooler.

If this film doesn't do too well (either critically or financially) I wonder if that's going to impact Phase Three at all

It won't matter if it does 6-7/10 critically...Man of Steel didn't do well critically and it still made about $670,000,000 or so. AoU...I expect it to break the billion barrier but given the "it's good but not great" reception so far I wonder if it'll smash past the original's box office total.

Is the camera work still "made for TV"?

Do the twins get a lot of (good) action scenes? All we've seen in trailers is SW throw two hexes and Quicksilver throw a punch.

The Twins
Unfortunately due to a lot of scene cuts, you don't get a good, full scene of Quicksilver. Scarlet Witch is better handled, one of my favourite new characters.

Seeing this in one hour. I hope I get to see the Star Wars and Batman vs Superman trailers before it. Probably not since this is in Asia, but one can hope.

Seen this last night in the Imax. Mid tier MCU at best. Best part of the night was seeing the Star Wars trailer on the giant screen.

Can you describe
her new costume that she gets at the end?

Unfortunately, I was too focused on other things at the time (ie geeking out) and I'm not a comic reader, so I can't really comment on this. That said,
it's pretty awesome, her costume at the end somehow made her even hotter. :P

Also, I watched this in Taiwan, and we didn't get any Star Wars or Batman VS Superman trailers. I'm assuming it'll be the same for the other Asian countries too.
