I would too if someone started asking personal questions about my life. Fuck that reporter. Guy's a general asshat along with the rest of the Channel 4 folks.

Same jackass that pissed off Tarantino during the Django press tour, and acts all smug about it "oh i'm just doing my job." But he's the one who's winning, in the end. Easy bait.

I don't know why he wants to know whether he's a liberal or not so badly. I defended this guy after the Tarantino thing because at least those questions were about the movie but this seems a bit bullish.

What did RDJ say as he was leaving? Didn't quite catch it.
He's trying to stir up some shit because he knows Downey leans right.

:lol What kind of reviews were you guys expecting? All of these reviews are right in line with my expectations.

But I've never really cared for professional film critic reviews, either.

Did you like the other Marvel movies?
I loved all of them, except for the first Captain America. This was just as bad, but with a much bigger budget and more hype. God it was so bad, inconsistent and they were trying soo hard to be cool, to be hip and funny...

But, explain. Been in the spoiler thread? Might be worth expanding on particularly what scenes and such

I can almost spell "AVENGER" with your username. It's almost an anagram.

That's all; carry on.

Saw it last night, really enjoyed it. Sure it wasn't the same levels of giddiness that Avengers gave me, but it's still a great fun film. I look forward to watching it a second time as there was simply way too much to take in!

Just got back from the midnight showing in Singapore. Really, really liked it, but slightly short of LOVED it because of what the editing room did. Would love a Director's Cut version; feels like so many bits were missing to keep the run time down.

It's slightly darker than the first, but still has that awesome comic-booky action KAPOW action. Yeah, Winter Soldier's action sequences were more visceral and satisfying, but Captain America is Captain America and the Avengers is supposed to be colourful, over-the-top fun. There's space in the MCU for both types of action.

What I really liked:
- Whedon got a new love for his long, single-take action beats. The opening stomp through the snowy forest was F-awesome, ending in that fantastic slow-mo team moment. The pan around the team in the Sokovian church was brilliant too.
- All those team up moments! Thor striking a lighting blast off Cap's shield! Widow and Cap ping-ponging drones!
- That the Infinity Stones were so explicit in this one. So this is why Thanos will come to Earth in Infinity War Part 1; to retrieve the Mind Gem from Vision.
- Hawkeye. My second favourite part of the movie, after the cool chill-out vibe of the party scene. I felt it really grounded the team and gave a lot of depth to Hawkeye, and cemented how close he and 'Tash were. He got the best line of the film too.
- Really liked that Ultron was more than just a menacing vision, but a warped version of Tony's personality. He felt like a petulant, misguided child. I thought it gave depth to the character, even if he turned out to be less of an actual threat that before.
- So THAT's how Ulysses got his Klaw!
- The establishing of the Avenger's Academy! Falcon! War Machine! That new Scarlet Witch costume!

What I thought could have been done better
- Ultron didn't seem like a threat at all. He had an army of drones... Yay! Which the Avengers tore through in 2 minutes.
- Quicksilver's death. Sadface... I liked him and you lose a lot of the dynamic with Wanda without him. Still, no burial and they can always resurrect him. Maybe with Dr Helen's advanced machine? She was shown at the Avengers Academy in the End.
- Mid-credits sequence..... after what has come before... meh!
- Vision looked kinda weird. Like a red-yellow variant member of the Blue Man Group. He didn't have a lot of presence either. His first moment with the hammer though, got the greatest reaction from the cinema.
- Editing. Made the fight sequences kinda choppy. Some scenes were just so short and didn't flow, like Thor's cave scene and Tony's five seconds at the Nexus building.
- Music. Thought Danny Elfman would lend a better hand to the score, but apart from the Avengers theme from the first film, I can't remember any tune from the show.

Just came back. I really liked the movie. It was everything I hoped it to be. Nothing more, nothing less. There is only one big reason I could rate Avengers 1 higher: this is more of the same, but of course I can't blame them on it. I'd say it's definitely on par with Avengers 1.

I normally really dislike villains in superhero movies, but Ultron was cool. I think he's my favorite Marvel movie villain after The Winter Soldier.

Saw this today. Decent 3,5/5. There's not much to talk about the story. It's pretty, it's huge, it's fast, it's all that pew pew and it's funny. But the lack of story made it a bit meh.

[/SPOILER]
Hearing this from a lot of people. They cut out about an hour worth of footage. Seems it would have benefited from an extra 10-20 minutes.

Really hope they release a Directors Cut version.

I have to say... I really really wish Marvels' Phase 3 conference was planned for May 2015 instead of October 2014.

Age of Ultron sets up a lot of the MCU that will be explored in Phase 3, primarily Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther. But already knowing what Phase 3 has in store made me go 'ah... so that's what's they have planned' during the movie instead of 'OMG, did they just tease that? Are they going to do what I think they're going to do in Phase 3?!?!'

Let's be honest, shit would have leaked anyway. Hell, Civil War leaked before the Phase 3 press conference & we heard rumblings of an Inhumans film (plus we already knew about Guardians 2).

Doesn't trump an official confirmation though, leaks and theories are all fine and contribute to the craziness that this movie might have been if we were still in the dark. It sounds like AoU is a transition movie, but I can see how knowing where it's going to transition to might ruin the fun.

I'm feeling exactly the same as you, I really really liked it but didn't love it and I felt that was entirely down to the editing. I really hope they do release some form of a directors cut, it feels like it's the marvel film that would benefit the most from it.

DOFP was either the best or second best comic movie of last year, depending on how you felt about Winter Soldier.

I'm not sure why it seems so divisive, DOFP might be the best Xmen movie ever or at least the best one since X2.
3rd best, GotG was the best and TWS was second.

Ending battle really fell flat for me, ruining what otherwise was a great Iron Man movie.

Back on topic though, love that my local theater has reserved seating, can't wait for next Friday.
Eh, the final battle was better than IM1's and IM2's, it was also unique, dynamic and great, so not sure how it could actually ruin the entire movie retroactively.

People are talking about dubs. I don't really mind them in big movies. And i undestand that quality very much varies by country. Here in Russia, we have amazing dubs. Sure there are some mistakes in translation here and there, but overall they are good. Every big actor has a voice actor attached to them with a voice very similar to original. Like i go to movie with Clooney in it and i know how'll he sound, same with Downey Jr., Pitt, Cruise, ScarJo, Cooper etc.
While i prefer to watch TV Shows and performance based movies with subtitles, big blockbusters benefit from dubs in my opinion. I think it wouldn't be very comfortable to read subtitles, when you watch say Interstellar in IMAX, even though i would prefer to hear McConaughey's voice. For example in GOTG Michael Rooker's character in dubbed version sounded like Michael Rooker learned perfect russian and voiced him himself, Just 1:1.
Even then, with dubs you are always missing something, because the translation has to fit what is happening on screen (unlike subs which can be longer and thus provide more accurate translations).

They also suck when you are visiting a country where you aren't fluent in the language and want to go to the cinema D:

Holy shit, the review hyperbole in this thread is too much. It's almost as if people are looking for a reason to hate the movie. But that's preposterous, isn't it?
Par the course actually!
Seriously, it always happens.

Does this make it a bad movie?
People don't know what RT% actually means, while also mixing it with the typical videogame review score scale where anything below a 90 is basically shit.

What I find most interesting about this thread is that people continually quote the bad impressions, while seemingly ignoring the good ones.

That, the Avengers 3 split... a lot stuff leaked before that, so it's not like they had much of an option anyway.

Tell that to schools. It's exactly how the grading scale works and I don't see the problem applying it to games and movies. 6/10 is 60%. There is not way I consider that 'good'
Not outside the US.

Just back from the film myself, so many moments that made me scream inside (and I wanted to on the outside as well). I think th 142 runtime was a bit short. Definitely think it could have done with another 20/30 minutes. Considering it was edited down from 3 and a half hours, there's plenty of material that could have been used.

It feels weird that this big tentpole film is out here in the UK in a couple of days and I have seen hardly any marketing around London. No posters, no billboards, no TV spots, nothing. Are they skimping on the marketing budget because they assume everyone knows About Marvel films? It's hard to feel any hype when they aren't putting the effort in.

The original cut was 3 1/2 hours?

No wonder the editing was such a mess. This movie really needs an extended cut more than any of the MCU movies before it.
