Sounds like it's landing where I expected it to. Entertaining film but nothing groundbreaking in marvelscape. But I'll see for myself next thursday :(.

RT is 81, IMDB is 8.8 and Meta is 72

I hope it stays that way before I see it on midnight, dont want to go in with a negative mindset. For anyone who has seen it, does it reach TWS and IM1 level because those are the kinds which I watch repeatedly

It's basically right behind those, on the second highest level. I think a longer version could push it to the top.

Yeah this sounds like something I'll enjoy immensely but wont consider a personal classic. That's actually close to what I'd say of the first Avengers as well if you take away the novelty of a massive team-up movie.

For those who have seen it, what was your impression of the music in the film?

You've had a few responses but I thought I'd share my opinion anyway as it differs a tad from the other responses;

Music seemed totally subdued for the most part, in fact the mixing didn't put emphasis on it at all. The only distinctive scoring I can recall was the theme from the first Avengers, but even then, it's not as prevalent as it was in the first film. Sound design in general was great though, especially the dream sequences (Wanda influenced dreams, that is).

I booked my tickets to see Avengers last night to see it today at 3:30pm. I make my way there, I get off the bus and notice massive roadworks by a really small bridge near the showcase cinema. The workers tell me I cant walk through so I make my way to the near by cemetery and climb over a wall onto the canal because I know theres a way down to the cinema but nooooooooo that's all fenced off. My only other option is to walk home and go the other way around but if I did that I would of missed 30 minutes of the film so I just went home but I left my keys because I didn't think I'd be home until after 6pm so I have to twiddle my thumbs in the garden waiting for some one to come home for an hour and a half.

A waste of ten quid and I don't even wanna see it any more lol.

Sorry but I laughed because this reminded me of thunder gun express.

Just got back, It was so good ! I can't wait to go see it again Saturday with my mates. The Opening battle was awesome. There was some great and funny moments Stark " Shit" (or something like that) Cap " Language" Stark " Did he really just say that?" and then teases him for most of the movie.

They both apologized but Renner was still a dick about it. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...ow-slut-scarlett-johansson-avengers/26235729/

A representative for Chris Evans sent the following statement to USA TODAY via email:

"Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize."

A representative for Jeremy Renner also sent this statement to USA TODAY:

"I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."

Just got back here. Well, it was indeed fun, typical Marvel romp, which is not a bad thing.

But my suggestion would be wait for a director's cut (that I hope they make, because as it is it desperately needs one) and skip this version.

The 3D actually wasn't that bad, there were a few moments where it became too hectic to see some events, but it was mostly great.

The effects were hit and miss though. There's one scene near the beginning that looked really bad. Not sure if that was due to the lighting, but it looked awful. There are other scenes at the beginning that looked bad too, but it gets progressively better as the movie goes on. They are near flawless by the end.

Ultron was well done for what the film allowed the character to be. Spader definitely didn't phone it in, there was good character work in the portrayal. But it just feels sort of lost in everything else. It's weird to describe it because as far as the story goes, Ultron is really the only villain, but yet I never really felt that he was driving the movie. Maybe a bit like Loki in the first Avengers. A lot of the action and major beats just felt like noise.

Every Avenger definitely gets their moments in the film, I think this is where Whedon tried really hard to make it more "balanced" than the first Avengers was. I don't think all of it worked though. A+ for effort, but the execution ranges from B- to C-.

If you absolutely had to rate it, what would you give it out of 10? Also asking the same for the first movie.

I'm with him. It's insane how touchy people are about everything. Especially with something like this.
yes, because calling the only female avenger misogynistic slurs is no big deal.

yeah it was a joke but it's still gross and people have every right to be annoyed.

he's not wrong, it's still people madly defending a fictional character from an off-hand joke that meant nothing

does Scarlet Witch not exist by the end of AoU?

In the context of the question its absolutely fine. People making mountains out of molehills, as they so often do nowadays.

Nothing stops the Internet Outrage Machine. Thankfully the mods here had enough sense to close the thread before all the usual suspects showed up to teach everyone how sexist Capt & Hawkdude were.

I think Marvel should've hold on anouncing Phase 3 slate after Phase 2 was over. It really killed this movie for some reason. I'm more interested in Phase 3 stuff than AoU and Ant-man.

Again, a good chunk of Phase 3 leaked prior to the press conference. On top of Guardians 2 being revealed at Comic-Con 2015...

- Civil War
- Doctor Strange
- Avengers 3 in 2 Parts
- Inhumans

All leaked before they were officially revealed. Had Marvel waited any longer, the rest of the Phase 3 slate would have leaked as well.

I wonder how much of the phase 3 seeding here is actually noticeable to people who don't pay attention to those announcements though?

It reminds me of Iron Man 2, where the people who complained about too many Avengers allusions and MCU references were the ones who knew who the Avengers were in the first place. Whereas for those who didn't, it went right over their heads.

Well, Kevin Feige could've just kept denying stuff until Ant-man, and then open the floodgates or maybe even before, after AoU would've been fine I guess.

For the record, I think DC announcing a slate of movies was dumb, too. It's just dumb. You take a lot of wind out of some of the movies, since you knows it's building towards others movies so the excitement is just not there.

For DC it would've been fine to announce the movies that lead up to JL, then after JL announce the others. What's the point of GL in 2020? or Cyborg in 2019? Ridiculous. I know it was for investors, but still stupid...

Are people really excited for AoU when there's Civil War down the line, and then Inifity Wars? Yeah...

btw I didn't know about some of the Phase 3 movie before that event they did last year. Definitely didn't know Captain Marvel was coming. Stuff like GOTG2 was obvious, based on how successful the first one was. Cap 3 again obvious. But Black Panther? Captain Marvel? Inhumans? No way in hell I knew those were coming. I heard there's a
Wakanda reference
in AoU if you didn't know about a certain movie of Phase 3, I know you would've lost your shit.

Got Star Wars, Jurassic World and Ant Man at my cinema in WA

EDIT: The movie was great. Some unexpected moments and one of my favorite Marvel films.

You lucky bugger.

Hawkguy saying bad jokes. He's untouchable after how great he is in this movie.
Just kidding, it's just a bad joke.

I don't think the issue is "too much seeding" but rather the time spent on the seeding not being in service of the actual film it is in. It doesn't matter if a person "gets" the references or not, the question is whether the scenes played well in the film it is in. In both AoU and IM2, it bloated the films and hurt the pacing.

Taking this quote from one of the RT reviews which, while positive, uses this as it's quote.

The fact that Marvel announced its entire slate a few months back takes a lot of the impact away. If we didn't know about a Black Panther film, the mention of Wakanda would have been mind-blowing. Instead, it fell flat.

Although I love the movie, If there's anything I agree about being kind of a negative, it's kind of this. Is there anything this movie benefited from by actually getting the entire Phase 3 laid out prior to the movie? Almost feels better if they would have saved all of that info until after Avengers 2.

Kind of split on this too. To a general audience they probably don't know what Marvel movies are coming after Ant-Man. However, that same audience probably has no idea what the hell Wakanda is so those teases fall flat on them. :/

Just came back. I thought it was fucking fantastic and prefer it to the first one, which I loved. Ultimately seeing the team work together on screen didn't have the same impact (which was to be expected) but it is a better movie overall and still has a lot of awesome moments. After some of the reviews and comments here I was a little bit worried but it turns out that was unnecessary. Definitely going to see this again.

I've seen a few people comparing this movie to Iron Man 2 in how they are teasing Civil War and the Infinity Wars. I actually don't think it's that bad. There are plenty of things in this that nod to the comics, nod to future movies and plain set up future movies, but it's not on the same scale as Iron Man 2. Where I thought IM2 was a trailer for the Avengers, this feels like a big piece in a bigger puzzle. The set ups weren't forced in like IM2 were.

Just watched it. 6/10 maybe as a first impression.
Visuals are too CGI-y where nothing has weight to it (unlike winter soldier <3 )
Ultron is weak, the characters are weak, nothing feels like a real threat and the Jokes are silly (whedons style got old quickly).

I need to let the movie sink in a bit more, though.

Just out of it, I really enjoyed it, but I didn't go in with massive expectations; I expected a good superhero action movie and that's what I got.

I will say only 2 things that did kinda bother me:

The attempts at humour with Uktron don't work, like at all.

Ultimately, as others have said, it really does feel like a stop gap for Infinity War, ok for a typical MCU movie but not what I should expect for an Avengers movie.
However, I didn't think it teased as much IM2 style as some said.

First off, I wasn't on the hype train for this movie but liked the first one.

In my opinion it's better than the Avengers but it certainly had it's problems. Ultron continues the list of bad Marvel movie villains but Spader at least really gives the character some life with the material he has.

I would say that it's definitely a better movie than the Avengers but without all the hype of actually seeing the team form in the first film and knowing the Phase 3 slate it's unlikely that you'll be as excited as the first viewing of Avengers Assemble.

Just saw it.
Kinda like the trailers promised, the movie is bleak, depressing. I think it is the most depressing part of the MCU, in a the world is fucked and the statistics confirm it kind of way. Like the whole movie was shot with Ultron's worldview in mind.

Whedon's humor was there, and I and the audience laughed a lot. But sometimes I wished some scenes weren't played for laughs that much.

The action scenes imho were timed right, and often intercut with other stuff or other action scenes. Like in the in the Hulkbuster fight, that can be seen online, you often see one perspective of the action and the audience has to make up on their own how the other enemies got there. I think that works really well, allowing for fast cuts and combat, without leaving one disoriented.

The score worked fine along the pictures, hints of the themes from Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Thor 2 were there. Some pieces felt lifted verbatim from the first Avengers movie.
Hellicarrier approach, and the final scene
I guess on its own I will find the score boring to listen to.

I don't think the movie did that much to prepare Civil war or other MCU movies. For me almost everything felt as part of the story, except the final scene, and the stinger.

Just seen it in 3D IMAX. Not my preferred number of dimensions but I digress...

It was fun. I found the story less coherent than the first but still ptetty functional. Set pieces were great as expected.

Overall I didn't leave the cinema feeling as enthralled as I did when I left seeing the original Avengers, but still an enjoyable watch (although I think I would've preferred it in 2D. 3D did nothing for me).
