How often do you dust? At that price it would take me 5+ years to break even.

Every few days but the method I use currently is awfully hard and time consuming (make-up brush + air). Would be so much easier to quickly blow the dust away. I also dont like the idea of using compressed air due to moisture leaking so a safer alternate would be great.

Hey guys, with The Witcher 3 coming I think it's time for a new PC and I need your help for the build.
I'll give my current PC to my girlfriend so I'll not use any part of it.

[Basic Desktop Questions]
  • Your Current Specs: i5 750, 8GB DDR3 , Asus P7P55D, GTX 560 Ti, Antec EarthWatts 500, Antec Sonata III, Barracuda 7200 1 To.
  • Budget: 1500-2000€ + France
  • Main Use: Light Gaming (3), Gaming (5), General Usage (5).
  • Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050 (I currently have a Prolite B2206WS). I'm planning to buy a 1440p monitor in few months.
  • List SPECIFIC games or applications that you MUST be able to run well: The Witcher 3 at steady 60 fps. I'm curious about SuperSampling and I want to try it.
  • Looking to reuse any parts?: No
  • When will you build?: I could be great if I have it in time for The Witcher 3 but by the end of may/ begining of june is cool.
  • Will you be overclocking?: No

Tell me if you need more informations.

Old?
Skylake!
12% faster than 4790K(~4.2Ghz) and 3% slower than hex-core 5820K(3.4~3.5Ghz) at multicore benchmark
Lowered turbo boost and still 95W?
I think Skylake will spend most of its time at turbo boost frequency 4.2Ghz

Intel-i7-6700K-CINEBENCH.png

Intel-i7-6700K-GTA-5.png

So looks like: don't expect massive gains but better efficiency/TDP?

As usual. If it's spending most of its time at 4.2Ghz in that bench then it wouldn't be much faster than a 4790K at 4.2Ghz.

Well 6700K is up to 15% faster than 4790K at the same 4.2Ghz, assuming 4790K too spends most of its time at 4.2Ghz (?) What is the average running clocks for 4790K when running MT tasks?

It really depends on how well 6700K/6600K overclocks this round. The beauty of the original sandy bridges, was their immense overclocking from stock! :D

There isn't a pcpartpicker option for France so I've used German prices (the H110i GT price is from Amazon.fr)

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (€362.74 @ Home of Hardware DE)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GT 113.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (€135.99)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€115.89 @ Home of Hardware DE)
Memory: Kingston Fury Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (€138.89 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Storage: Crucial MX200 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€199.00 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€55.86 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card (2-Way SLI) (€366.74 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card (2-Way SLI) (€366.74 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (€110.89 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (€121.28 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Total: €1974.02
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

This should give you enough power to push good frames at 1440p when you buy your new monitor. You could get a smaller SSD if you'd like to improve the build in other areas. You may even get the Witcher 3 for free (probably 2 copies, actually) depending on where you buy your GPUs from.

I think you should be able to order parts from Amazon Germany without a great deal of hassle, however there could be better deals on the parts more locally to you. Hopefully some other Eurogaffers will have some ideas about where to best source parts from.

The often mentioned Reddit Windows keys would come in to play here to keep you under budget. I'm not sure what the current status is with them, but they seem to keep being recommended.

Edit: You will overclock, GAF will hold your hand and take you to amazing places. If you're really set on not doing so, then liquid cooling isn't really necessary. You could go for a Hyper 212 EVO instead to save some more money while keeping the build cool and quiet.

Since you seem like you can wait until after Witcher 3 is out I would say you should come back and ask again as we would have performance benchmarks by then which should allow us to better recommend/optimize parts for your system especially if you're looking to play Ultra(or very close to it :p) + 1440p.

I think it's ridiculous that we're still not getting a 6 cores CPU that doesn't require to pay a 200€ premium over a 4 cores one.

That might have to do more with the pricing of the local market than anything. In the US, the difference between the unlocked quad core i5 4690K and unlocked hexa core i7 5820K is about $150/137€.

Pretty much every source and roadmap points to Q3 2015.. why do you not think they will release this year?

Experience, and I know what it's like when I worked at Intel, what the rumours say don't make sense to me.

Releasing 2 desktop SKUs of different architecture with different sockets to the same audience at the same time - that rings alarm bells to me.

Still, it's 2015, I see no reason other than Intel doing whatever the hell they want because they can for not having the top i5 to be an hexa-core CPU with the 250€/$ pricepoint they have now. It would sell like hotcakes too.

Hey GAF, I want to upgrade my PC with my a new CPU-Cooler, because shamefully I use the one it comes with. I know the EVO 212 is often recommended, because of the Price-Performence ratio, but I want to ask if their are better and/or more quiet options.
Hopefully I have a better airflow in my overall System as well.

I think I have to watch out too, because these Rams are pretty high. Could that be a problem ?

So I know I'm supposed to be testing temperatures and such. Making sure my over clock is stable. I've got OCCT, Prime95, and 3d mark.

This is my setup:

I7-5820k @4.3 @ 1.20 v
16 gb 2400 ram
Msi x99s sli
Msi 980gtx
Phanteks phtc14pe cooler

What tests should i run and what data should I be looking for? I always see about idle, full load, and max. Any insight is appreciated.

Anyone?

I like Prime 95 Small FFTs. Might end up needing a little more voltage, just to warn you (your card might also be better than average, too, so who knows).

So the computer I've been using has finally kicked the bucket and I need to replace it with a new one. I need some help deciding on what to get and thought I asked y'all for your opinions since I haven't been keeping up to date on computers, gpu and etc.

Here's what I plan to use the computer for.

-Work (Office Suite)
-Moderate Gaming (I want to play Witcher 3, GTA V, backlog of Steam games @ 1080p, average 30 FPS+, also interested in the HTC VR headset)
-Multimedia

I'm going to hook it up to a 55 inch television to save some space in my apartment.

I don't really have time to build it myself and don't trust myself to do it in the first place so I was thinking of getting a system with these specs

-Mini ATX case for space saving
-Intel i3-4160
-8gb of ram
-EVGA Superclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB

This is around $750 which I'm comfortable with but...

I wanted to try and get something around $600 but I don't mind spending more if I can have something that won't be outdated quickly.

I also don't mind waiting if you know of anything coming up that will change the landscape of pc's in the near future but not more than a couple months.

Please help if you can =[

edit: So I can bring the price down to around $680 with an AMD A4 chip or $740 with an A8.

I would run Asus realbench, 3dmark, cinebench R15, virus scans while Chroming on 4k/60fps YT and Neogaf gifs, play some BF4 mp, a quick 15mins of OCCT. Just really normal multitasking stuffs. If no BSOD after an hour or 2, then you can do your things you want with your new PC. No need to run 12hr stress tests, much less 24hrs, IMO.

Be warn though, Haswell-E gets hot when you run OCCT, and even more toasty with P95 AVX2. So i have skipped P95 AVX2.

Haswell-E overclocking is highly dependent on the CPU, less so on motherboards. Heat is dependent on your vcore. Get lucky with a CPU, keep the heat down, and you get better stability. 4.3Ghz at 1.2v is pretty good, wont get toasty under load. IMO 5820K is a great buy with 50% more cores at only 15% more $$$ over the 4790K. The new Q6600/3930K. And you managed to get one that runs 4.3Ghz on a single core, that is enough horsepower even in the face of the upcoming Skylakes and Canonlakes.

Here's mine btw. :D

Hey guys. If I was to spend $1000 on a PC today (not including OS, KB/M, or monitor), how long do you think it would be able to play new releases at high settings/1080p?

Basically, what's the ideal budget for a future proofed PC, maybe 4-5 years?

Alright, I have the patience of a 26 yr old. I wanted to wait for skylake, but my wallet is burning me to upgrade my pc now. I have a 2500k, so I'll need a new mobo as well. Is skylake going to be SO much more amazing that I'm wasting my money on it? Or should I just go down to microcenter and pick up an i7 bundle for under $400?

Broadwell should be just a couple of month I away (if they're really going to launch in the summer), at least wait for that.

Kind of in the same boat. Want to upgrade my 2600k. Thought skylake would be 6 cores at least. If that's not the case I want to pick up a 5820k soon.

I would honestly just wait, OC the 2500k as much as possible and hang fire. Still an awesome CPU.

So i currently have my 2500K set to 4.0ghz, and I'm unsure what I should change in my BIOS to get it running at 4.5ghz. A user mentioned that all I need to do is up the voltage to 1.35 and core ratio to 4.5 and I would be set. What exactly should I change in my Bios/what should I leave alone? Broadwell should be just a couple of month I away (if they're really going to launch in the summer), at least wait for that.

Broadwell 5775C is an interesting and off shoot CPU from Intel. Due to the lowered clockspeed and TDP, the 4790K should outperform it on the CPU side. From what i seen of Broadwell laptops, the IPC gains is very very small compared to previous Intel tick-tocks, it relies on a more consistent Turbo mode. On a desktop, maintaining turbo speed is less important.

But it comes with that massive 64mb edram and GT3 iGPU. With some overclocking to the CPU, iGPU and DDR3 ram, it would probably work wonders in some mitx enclosure Steam boxes...it could even outperform the Xbox One....

Your links don't work. If those are google drive links outsider can't see it.

But what you are looking for is called multiplier or sth like that. You should see it set at 40, change that to 45.

Prime95 for one hour is good enough.

Currently deciding on what upgrades to get to run Witcher 3 on Ultra

Currently have

i5 4670K 3.40ghz
8Gb of Ram
GTX 670 2Gb

What do you guys think the best thing to upgrade for the Witcher would be?

1741 cb? My 5820K @ 4.5Ghz scores about 1300 cb. I must be missing something here. :-)

EDIT: Ah, you were talking about the 5820K but yours is a 5960X. Got it!

CPU can last you 5 years probably (particularly if overclocked). GPU-wise, you'd be best served by buying something midrange and then in ~2.5 years buying another midrange card.

I think $1000 is a fine budget for a computer like that.
