Guillermo del Toro confirms he will not be collaborating with Kojima on Silent Hills

Did you know that Kojima and co. won 3 awards (2 for MGS and 1 for PT) at the Famitsu event a few days ago but nobody came to accept those awards?

The last few years Kojima was there but this year no one came. I really want to know what Konami's goddamn problem is.

This all sounds like excessive "How DARE you" from the Konami execs. To the extent that they seemingly refuse to accept the awards in favour of disregarding the existence of Kojima's work.

Also teeeeaaaaars :(

I've never had gaming news piss me off as much as Konami's firing of Kojima. It just blows my mind how that company could do that to one of gaming's pioneers. Kojima has been making games since the original NES.

Does anyone know the full story or is it just rumors still?

To me, it seems like there was some bad blood between Kojima and the end result is this colossal meltown and hissy fit by Konami. Really sad to see, because Konami was/is one of my favorite game developers. :/

Didn't know about that. I never thought I'd say this once in my life but fuck gaming...

Yeah absolutely disgusting behaviour from this company.

Just what the hell happened between Konami and Kojima..

The past two years has been some of Kojima's most exciting recently ,and he was constantly at every major venue ,actively promoting and showing off MGSV.

Then He successfully pulled off an ingenious move with P.T and Silent Hills.

And yet here we are! Makes no sense at all...Some important person behind the scenes ruined everything for us.

yeah but they'll all be 2d pixel art survival horror with chiptunes and the 'what a twist!' near the end

Don't look down on 2D horror games :P, some of my favourites released in the past few years are 2D and include:

Lone Survivor
The Cat Lady
Silence of the Sleep

The Cat Lady in particular is fantastic, it's a bit rough and uses an engine that probably wasn't the best choice for what the game wants to do, but it works and everything else is great. Silence of the Sleep is a bit similar but is a much smoother experience gameplay wise.
Lone Survivor is essentially 2D Silent Hill, 16 bit inspired graphics, but no chiptunes, the soundtrack is sublime actually.

I mean you get stuff like Home or The Last Door too, only really played Home, but that one was pretty nifty in its on way too and featured great sound design.

You know what, this shit saddens me the more I think about it. PT was so good and the full game had so much potential...

What the fuck happened between Konami and Kojima? Can't someone just anonymously leak details on what caused the fallout?

fuck em, i was looking so much forward to it too. dont think i can support that company anymore, absolutely despicable behaviour.

If only there were something like investigative journalists for the video game industry...

What bizarre news. Just outright cancelled? Konami is only barely a console gaming company at this point.

Everyone laughs now, but I think it all comes back to the (bogus) head transplant surgery.

Has anyone tweeted Adam Boyes or anyone at Sony to hire Kojima, Del Toro, Reedus and the team to make Not-Silent-Hills?

If this project is really dead, there's no reason they can't just go and make their own game, right?

konami stinks. does this miserable company actually make any money other than what kojima brought in from his games?

Well there's yugioh (which has too much power creep nowadays), pachinko (I've also heard that some US casinos have stuff made by them), and rhythm games (which are sadly region locked and the 3rd party bypass, programmed world, got C&D'd last month, so we're stuck with iterations from 5 or so years back unless you live near a Round 1 which is owned by a Japanese Company)

I think it's just too crazy at the moment. Have you noticed that not many developers talked about this after the first news about Kojima leaving Konami was shared? On the Silent Hill Forums, their founder said that they knew some people at Konami and they said that things were pretty messy and there's a lot of damage control. According to the rumours (again never confirmed), Kojima will effectively leave in December. Who knows what he might do next? Maybe even outside of the games industry, especially after such a nightmare.

What is weird is that Konami isn't responding to the press about whether Silent Hills is officially cancelled and why can't they keep P.T. on the PS Store.

Rarely do I ever make statements like this solely because broad statements sometimes include innocent people but just for venting sake, I need to.

Fuck you, Konami. You spineless swines can't even own up to your actions. This is an absolutely pathetic showing for such a big outfit and I hope the men responsible for all of this get theirs.

I'm not giving you another damn dime until the day I shuffle off this mortal coil.

PT was awesome for the ps4, got a lot of attention for the platform. Sony should step in and find a way to bring Silent Hills to market without Konami.

I enjoyed the "PT" experience. I would be up for a horror anthology title. I say skip a Silent Hills game and start a new property that is comprised of short horror experiences.

Perhaps the segments of the anthology could have a link between them, but they are not directly related to one another. Like the radio in "PT" could be present in each segment; Something like that.

Well...Now that the Silent Hills collaboration is no more, seemingly at this point, I just hope someone is looking into having conversations with those creative people and seeing if there is a way of moving forward to create something new outside of Konami.

Fuck Konami. I hope to see Del Toro, Kojima, Yamaoka, and Reedus go to another publisher and make this game with a different title.

So with Castlevania, Silent Hill, Contra, Bloody Roar, and others pretty much dead in the water, what does Konami have?

The only ones I can think of that still seem relevant to them are Metal Gear and DDR.

The dream is dead. Oh man, that hurts.

PT will now live on as the one of the bigger taste of "What could have been..." games to me. Such an incredible experience that terrified an enticed me at what they were going to do with the completed Silent Hills after this Playable Teaser.

Looks about right.

Fuck Konami. I hope to see Del Toro, Kojima, Yamaoka, and Reedus go to another publisher and make this game with a different title.

I would imagine that would end up in a myriad of legal mitigation. In effect Konami saying fuck you and you and you and you over there and all of yous

They don't own people. If everyone involved goes and makes another horror game with another name Konami can't do shit.

Not saying they will win, just saying in today's day and age of court battles for intellectual properties... I could see Konami trying to tie everything up in the court system just to stall.

Seems like common sense since Kojima is out of Konami by the end of the year.

I'm sure the whole P.T. idea was Kojima's doing, and a genius one at that. Silent Hills' quality will probably suffer big time without his involvement.

Right. That would be some bullshit. They can't prevent these people from working together, they can only choose to not be a part of it and not allow association with the silent hill name.

You couldn't ask for a better hype generator then PT. Must be some major bad blood over this stuff, or maybe konami is transitioning from traditional games?
