Also lol Dani. Your 343 salt is getting a little salty for the sake of being salty.
In the books having the spartans be identical, only differentiable by Halsey and themselves because they knew each others small differences. That was cool. But it would come across so shitty in any sort of visual medium.
I do agree with Over that some of the designs can be excessive, but we absolutely need to be able to distinguish them at a glance.
343 weren't the ones that started changing up the suits though so

The original lore behind the armour indicated the costs were really high, so it made a lot of sense, especially in the military to keep costs some what reasonable, that the armour be the same so that it can be developed on a production line of some sorts.
It also makes sense that you would get some special variants for special and limited circumstances.
With Halo 4 onward though, and the Spartan 4's, every Spartan is a special snowflake that needs his own special armour and special colour scheme. That's the only way give any of these meatheaded clones any sort of identity.
With Reach, Noble team was unique, battle hardened. They customised their gear over years, and that provides a good excuse for their appearance. When you start the game yourself you have shiny default armour and as you play you customise your own suit. It made sense.
As a matter of fact, armour design in general has been pretty terrible with a few exceptions here and there. Halo 4/5 designs just look... busy? Over-designed?
Regardless I'm considerably more interested in Halo 5's story at this point than I've ever been. This and the HtT stuff have just hit the right notes.
