I was looking for the compubox punch stats and the only thing I have found on Twitter claim Mayweather threw more punches. That seems unbelievable to the naked eye and how I felt the fight was going. There were a couple of rounds in the middle where it seemed Mayweather was lucky to throw 20 shots. That is part of my problem with Floyd and the narrative built up in the fight. Mayweather was being rewarded for avoiding punches. For me the judges should only care about landed punches and damage caused. Ducking and weaving is technically great but unlike in most of his fights I don't think Mayweather was regularly backing up his defence with landed counter punches.

I still think Mayweather won but I thought it was much closer. Floyd's strong finish carried him to the win IMO.

I made some money on the fight...and I know jack shit about boxing ^_^ Was at a watch party with some friends and they had a pool going.

There were a lot of pissed off people, lol

Welp, im out. See ya boxing casuals, im saddened to see you swear off boxing forever.

See you when Floyd fights in September

lol this guy. its sad people dont watch boxing anymore because of the talent but instead watch 1 fighter only just because they want to see him lose.

I'm setting the bar at $.

Meaning everyone in here is a amateur boxing fan aka casual.

Same thing as a hobbyists versus a professional.

Anyways this casual is going to bed.

Lol we all casuals bruh. The fight sucked. I just warned people to save that 100 but they wouldn't listen.

I am indeed a casual. First boxing match I've ever seen. So I'll tell you from the mind of a casual what I saw. I saw a guy genuinely trying to box and enjoy himself, and another run away, hug, and stay away the whole time while being very obnoxious about it.

The haters are brilliant. It's just so funny to see them lose their shit because Mayweather soundly outboxed and outclassed Pacquiao.

Everybody seems cool. There's just a shit load of Mayweather fans getting defensive and calling everybody a casual for thinking the fight was boring.

Everybody knows real fans of baseball appreciate the majesty of bunting and who could avoid getting aroused at the amazing tactics of walking a hitter. Only the puritans can appreciate it, not filthy casuals looking for home runs.

That's what you guys sound like right now.

Yeah - let's ignore the fact he dodged/neutralized nearly every punch Manny threw - and doubled Manny's punches landed... both jabs and power shots. All he did was grasp and run. Nothing else happened that fight.

When as people did we get to the point where we no longer consider talent and hard work important in a sport. I'm not defending Floyd as I don't know the man but is he villified to the point where we want any attempts at success b him to end in failure with no there reason other than "we" don't like him? Sounds like HATE to me. I've actually noticed that a lot lately Tom Brady = HATE Steph Curry =hate, James Harden = Hate, and Lebron = HATE HATE Jameis Winston = HATE HATE. Say what you want about these people but again like a broken record I ask the haters, "What are you doing?"

I'd equate it more to true baseball fans being able to appreciate watching a no hitter thrown or even a pitching duel that ends in a 1-0 game while a casual fan that only watches the world series wants to see 10-15+ runs each game.

Yo, I thought you weren't a fan of Floyd? Yes, he looked shook but he won anyways.

Were you pretending to be neutral but a Floyd stan all along?

Just come out and say it young buck.

...is this a work? Or a shoot?

That's great. This isn't the 80s. We're 3 decades past that and styles have changed.

Also because the world of boxing has put so much damn emphasis on losses. Unless your 30 and 0 with at least 20 of those wins being against straight cans you suck.

Guys aren't better now really than they were in the 80s, in fact as a whole I think a lot of quality has dropped. Defense has improved maybe but offensive boxing is diving hard. Because people are so afraid of losing.

Go out there and try to fuck up your opponent. Tyson would go in there and try to tear through people and it was amazing.

Huh? The guy wasnt boxing and trying to enjoy himself he was trying to land a lucky punch against someone in a different league.

Hate to break it to you bruh, but....

The fight sucked bro. Casual, rookie, veteran, pro doesn't matter. But 30 of Mayweathers fights are like that. before him Whitaker, before him Camacho and so on and so on. Boxing needs heavyweights to be good again but those days are gone.

They are jealous that Mayweather owns a box of watches that costs more than they will make in their entire lives.

By "they" I mean "me"

Meh, to me what Floyd does is the equivalent of a pitcher throwing a no hitter. Thats the entertainment I get from it.

I'm still waiting for someone to show some official stats because it sure didn't look like it. Those gifs above looked like more punches thrown than anything I saw in that fight.

Agreed. As I stated earlier anyone who has watched even casual fights over the last years would have anticipated this.

Seriously. I get calling people who go "LOL CLINCH JAB RUN" or "PAC SHOULD WIN BECAUSE PRESSURE" casual. A one-sided defensive fight ending in UD is basically as boring as it gets when you have two world-class fighters.

Blame Pac for playing to Floyd's strength. What is Floyd supposed to do, take unnecessary risks? This is a fight, there's no giveaways.

You misunderstand. I'm saying that certain fights you know you're going to get more of a brawling style fight which makes what you pay feel better about it.
Nothing wrong with Floyd's style it just isn't my favorite.

May weather was the more technical fighter, and he definitely dominated, but it was boring boxing. At least UFC, technical fights, tend to be about trying to get out of a BJJ guard. A little more technique involved then test range jab, test range jab, test range jab, test range jab, wait, counter or hug. I barely even saw that many combinations by May weather. He didn't need them, I get that, but it was boxing.

May weather was the smarter boxer. Pacquio was the more entertaining boxer. Boxing needs more entertaining than technical right now for us casuals.

Leave the technical to olympic wrestling and UFC.

Change up the point system. Include criteria for aggressiveness to dissuade this style of boxing.
