Rarely. Tyson vs Holyfield was the last boxing match that I saw. And fyi, I already had the expectation that this match was not going to be a slugfest. I know so because I heard of Mayweather's fighting style prior to the match, and I know that not to expect too many devastating punches from his weight class.

All I wanted to see was some action, but Mayweather fought too defensively. I can respect his defensive style but to watch him use it the entire match is too boring. And it found it equally horrible to watch him grab Pacquaio as much as he did when he couldn't defend himself from a flurry of punches. The latter is such a lame tactic and I hate watching that crap in MMA too.

Anyway, I just expected a more entertaining match for a match that was hyped up so much.

I feel you on the wrap up and I'll throw in a couple headlocks! Do you fight or do any martial art? I practice Kaju or Kajukenbo. It's Karate Judo Chinese Boxing and Kenpo. Getting hit is not fun but the feeling of landing a solid jab is glorious.

Also because the world of boxing has put so much damn emphasis on losses. Unless your 30 and 0 with at least 20 of those wins being against straight cans you suck.

Guys aren't better now really than they were in the 80s, in fact as a whole I think a lot of quality has dropped. Defense has improved maybe but offensive boxing is diving hard. Because people are so afraid of losing.

Go out there and try to fuck up your opponent. Tyson would go in there and try to tear through people and it was amazing.

Well, he did want to eat their children, so..... there's that.

Only person I think could have ever given Floyd problems is probably Tito in his prime because of his reach. Maybe even Terry Norris.

For casuals, they though it was boring, and I'm sure Dana White and MMA have a great promotional tool on why the sport of boxing is boring when MMA offers more excitement and bang for the buck.

Hey friends, what's the most dominant style of fighting in MMA? Here's a hint.

I can't fucking stand that Mayweather is what casual fans define boxing as. I hate that he's as big as he is and gets to dictate to the world, what boxing is.

It fucking sucks because for those asking, what happened to old boxing?? Its still fucking there if you're willing to watch someone not named Floyd Mayweather.

Fuck it. Thank god this dude retires in a few months. Then you get to see that boxing's makeup is more than just this kind of fight.

Have you seen Floyd lately? Very different from yester year I think more of this is related to just how people feel about him and domestic abuse. Again not supporting the man just an observation. My once favorite boxer is also a sometimes jack ass by the name of Zab Judah such talent wasted.

I have not no. Sounds like he's toned that down then.

How is that anyone else's fault, or the fighters for that matter?

I'd place blame on marketing. "Fight of the century" and then the fight ends with no knockdowns or anything. Yeah, people tuning in for the first time are going to be disappointed. If that was the "fight of the century" then what was the old Ali stuff? Fight of the millennium?

Why don't actual boxing fans understand that this did nothing to catch the interest of possible future fans. I acknowledge that Mayweather did what he knows best which was to be the better defensive man but still, no matter what you say i.e. justifying his style or calling people casuals doesn't help this any further.

The perception of people who don't watch boxing are that of slugfests from back in the day and when you break that perception by showing a fight where a person is on the defense more than half of the time then it's going to bore people.

I myself am saddened by this PPV because all it did was deter possible future fans to get into boxing. Props to Money though, that's for sure.

I'd get into UFC if it wasn't just as bad... is fighting dead in general?

You just have to know what youre getting yourself into.

People buy a Mayweather fight and get mad when they're surprised its a fight where Mayweather is a masterful tactician with nearly impeccable defense and reflexes.

Its like people buying a UFC card with Mighty Mouse on it and then complaining they found it boring. Or people actually leaving the arena as it happens.

There are still plenty of good exciting boxers just as there many exciting and good mma fighters

Fight of a different century.

I'm not disappointed. It was a Mayweather fight. Manny is a tremendous boxer in his own right, but he fell in line to the strategy that Flloyd in known for, and I don't think anyone should be upset at how it ended up 'looking' as a fight. It was a boxing match, and ultimately that's what we were given.

Marketing hyperbolic? Almost as if they were trying to sell you on something.

This was exactly like every money may fight I've seen, really boring and him on defense the entire time looking for jab counters

Shocking part was that manny was 100% controlled into fighting the exact fight money wanted and couldn't dictate a damn thing, as if he was some amateur

Honestly couldn't have said it better myself. I knew this was exactly how it was going to play out. It was fun watching this with friends who had never seen a mayweather fight. I was with like 15 people. Everyone including myself rooting for pac. But I knew mayweather wasn't going to lose. God I can't stand him or the way he fights, but he knows how to play the system. i was really disappointed to see how pac was acting after the fight. Almost like he didn't care. Him saying that he thought he won the fight seemed so forced.

Hey friends, what's the most dominant style of fighting in MMA? Here's a hint.

GSP retired a while ago bro.

Also 7 of the last 10 UFC main events have ended in KO or submission. The finishing rate between current boxing and MMA is still huge. Mostly because there are a lot more ways to lose in MMA

He has beaten the best though, with that boring style. What's better?

And yet he always takes a shot at Mayweather every chance he gets.

"I created the blueprint to defeat Mayweather."

"My mind says Mayweather, but my heart says Pacquiao."

They co-exist to make money - but they certainly don't like each other.

They do not co-exist to make money. Goldenboy would be just fine without Mayweather. Mayweather would be in dire straights without Goldenboy because he absolutely hates Arum.

They make good money together and while Goldenboy will be fine once Mayweather retires, they enjoy that they make millions together. Oscar picked Mayweather just as Mosely did, just as Hatton did, just as everybody who fought both fighters except Cotto did (Cotto declined to pick either fighter).

His comment is not from salt. It's from the fact that everyone in this industry was hoping for at least half this fight to be fireworks to re-ignite interest in the sport. If that happens, everyone gains. Instead, they got a fight that isn't going to do that at all. And there's really nothing on the foreseeable horizon that will change that.

To be fair to the UFC, Dana White would love to also change the point system that allows defensive and technical fighters to point their way to victory in a very conservative style.

The thing that helps dissuade that in the UFC is that UFC awards bonus money for KOs and Fight of the Nights. It still happens, especially when someone is so dominant defensively and doesn't need the extra money, but not as common as in boxing due to that money bonus.

It really has nothing to do with Boxing or UFC, but the various athletic commissions, namely the Nevada one, which is the staple for all others, that determines these systems.

Clearly, but people watching thinking this was the "fight of the century" and being disappointed now have no reason to ever come back. If that's the best boxing has, as it was billed, then why bother?

Not saying it's correct to assume that, but it's what most feel. If this was the best fight in boxing in a century, the rest of the fights must be boring as hell.

May won clearly because this was his style. Like it or hate it. Pacman had to leave no doubt win or lose. I was disappointed in this fight cause Manny didn't put it all on the line.

Im filipino and am of course a fan of manny, but the truth is that Manny just doesnt have the focus anymore to beat mayweather. Manny can say all he wants about how having his family and friends with him during his training camp gives him strength or whatever but he was clearly distracted by them and this fight is the result. Against any other boxer maybe he doesnt need to give 100 percent of himself to have a chance to win but against floyd that isnt going to fly, hes just too good. I just wished it was a closer fight so he could get a rematch right away but the way the fight turned out I dont know about a rematch.
