Mayweather said something about "relinquishing his belts" on Monday during the press conference. What did he exactly say? Didn't hear it clearly where I am at.

Hahahahaha......DAAAAAAAAAAMN

Yes, but as I said, whos really watching lightweights fight? Lightweights dont bring in the masses in UFC. Who besides hardcore UFC fans know who the current champ (Anjos) is?

Anjos is only relatively unknown because he had a surge to the title. The previous champ had a damn Wheaties box cover. So how are you going to say that nobody is checking for the weight class?

You know who else had a Wheaties cover? Ali. You know who hasn't? Floyd.

Shame Mayweather is such a twat. He is and will forever be known as one of the greatest. Just a shame he can't be more likeable .

I can appreciate that Mayweather played it smart. But I have no interest in watching that type of fight and it seems most people don't either.

Boring, by what standards? In the first round, Ali came out hard and fought George head to head. He only then leaned on the ropes after he had made the point that could he could fight George anyway he wanted. The rest of the night Ali took his opponent to school whilst proving he could take his blows. What made that fight phenomenal was the build up to it. Ali was considered out of his prime, washed up and sure to lose by so many, and he proved them all wrong. His post interview is legendary for that reason alone.

What made that fight legendary was the method to the madness, which was apparent later.

If/when you rewatch that fight, do you watch the whole thing? I don't.

i dont think that will happen. mayweather will never go down as a legend. he wants to but his chickenshit style wont let it happen

This. Mayweather is a very skilled boxer and there's a good reason why he's undefeated. However, his brand of boxing is very boring.

I like Wladimir Klitschko style better.

Klitschko is considered to be boring even though he KO's most folks. His style is very defensive and risk adverse (for good reason with the relative weak chin that he has). Nobody talks about the Heavyweights but hardcore fans like myself.

Pettis is a known name now? Really? It's not the 80's anymore. Having a wheaties cover does not make you a household name.

I will agree that in the past, the lightweight division was one of the most popular divisions in the UFC. But in terms of the last 3 or so years, it has declined dramatically. Henderson was the last big Lightweight champ, not Pettis.

The same time elapsed for Mayweather. Pac got his shot and he blew it.
Different styles that degrade very differently with age. Manny would have had a very good shot at his peak, no guarantees he would even have win then. His speed now is just not remotely the same. An attacking fighter is always going to end up showing their age more when they rely on flurries.

He just never got anything going and is not the fearless person he once was in the ring. He needed to be a bit reckless to have a chance tonight.

Honestly, I thought that Floyd looked even better than normal in this fight, with some real fire on offense at times. I do think he should get called on his clinching, that shit gets old.

People can't have different opinions on what they find entertaining? As long as they acknowledge the technical skill and defensive brilliance they can still find ot boring as shit. Doesn't mean the people are casual or unonformed it means they prefer more aggressive fighters. So many couch experts all of a sudden acting like thwor opinion is the only valid one.

Floyd always fights the same, they don't watch him for his style.

I get being let down and finding it boring...but its like people wanted Floyd to go against what works to put on a show...that's stupid.

I like crazy YOLO fights like the next guy but at the end of the day, you should do what gets you a win...and not punched in the face a lot.

If Rocky was real...he'd be dead right now.

Yes, Floyd did was he needed to do to win, but if you want to be considered among the greatest of all time, being undefeated means little, its not only about the win but also about the way you won.

Also there have been tons of fighters who were tougher than Rocky, for instance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Aerts

You're out of touch. Plain and straight up. Pettis was and is wildly more popular than Hendo and I say that as Hendo fan. You've also clearly missed a ton of LW fights that have been insane.. including Cerrone who won 8 out of 10 fights in 2 years. The losses? To current champ Anjos and former champ Pettis. Then there's a number of other great talent in the division. But at this point we're way off topic. Though I can post a list if you absolutely assist.

My heart wanted Pacman, but my brain knew the likely outcome, which is exactly what happened. Shame. Nobody can deny the talent of Mayweather, but his highlight reel will not be memorable like those of Ali, Roy Jones Jr., or Tyson. He will be remembered as a boxer who showed up to win, but not to fight.

Shame Mayweather is such a twat. He is and will forever be known as one of the greatest. Just a shame he can't be more likeable .

Honestly it's probably been more economical for him to be a twat. He's boring to watch, but people will pay big money in hopes of seeing him get KTFO. I remember Tito Ortiz had a similar "I watch his fights because I want to see him lose" draw in the UFC.

Yooooooo

Fuck technical, I want in on this

Names pls

Not the same guys, but Google "Forrest Griffin vs Stephan Bonnar." They beat the living hell out of each other in the finals of the first season of the Ultimate Fighter. Just a straight up brawl with a hug at the end, and both gettting 6 figure contracts to the UFC.

Speaking of the UFC it is a shame that 1/5th or what 1/6th of what Floyd will make for this fight alone is probably more than what every ufc champion is worth combined.

That is probably because no one thought he could beat Pettis. He has only been champion for one fight. But I agree that anything from lightweight and lower is not as popular. As a boxing non-fan it seems weird to me the biggest names are such small guys. At that size knockouts would be so rare.
