Batman Arkham Knight free with new 970/980's

Amazon told me I have to return and rebuy and they are waiving the return shipping costs. Seems like it would be cheaper for them to just give me a Batman code, but whatevs.

Yeah. According to them, a code is generated with purchase (which is probably true) but you'd think they would be able to generate a code for special cases.

not worth it then, as the gen goes on games will be using more than that 2gb, and you'll see those cards just not perform up to standard. I have a 2gb 770 also, and think it will last long enough to hold out another year, but putting them in sli would be a waste of money.

i'm still using a GTX 580 and it's still good so when I upgrade, that's gonna be sweet. waiting for that 980 Ti and hope reviews are good.

Are only certain 970/980 cards eligible? I bought the EVGA SSC version a couple weeks ago, but that one doesn't show as including the games now (even though the first one I bought did include Witcher 3). I was thinking of going SLI, but would like to get the game codes. Eases the sting a little. :)

Would upgrading from a 670 GTX to a 970 be a notable jump? Running an i5 3550k.I haven't really hit any obvious barriers in terms of performance to date, but if the deal makes sense.... Could probably get $100 or so for the old card.

If you current card does what you want, then don't upgrade.

I had a 670 Windforce OC (+125 GPU / +775 RAM OC), and comparing it to my 970, Tomb Raider at max settings runs at pretty close to 1440p60, which I didn't even get close to with my 670. That's with only a very mild OC on my 970, too. It's pretty nice, but I wouldn't say it's night and day. I think a nicely OC'd 670 is still pretty relevant, but that's just one person's experience. :)

Oh, and Fire Strike in 3DMark went from 7066 to 10573 with just the card, and updating my processor (i7-920 @ 4.0GHz to i7-4790 @ 4.6GHz) took it up to 11492. Again, this is just with mild/OTS OC'ing. Haven't really dug in deep like I did with my i7-920/GTX 670 setup, so I'm sure there's decent room for improvement.

Just contacted Amazon about my 970 that I purchased wayyy back in December lol, and they're transferring my situation to the marketing and promotion team and I just have to wait 24 - 48 hours for their response. Hoping against hope, here. Lol.

This is tempting.

Now to start figuring out why in the hell EVGA has 8 versions of the 970 and which one provides the best value.

I'd recommend the SSC edition. It's essentially the same card as the FTW+, but it doesn't have as high an OC from the factory and its lacking the backplate, but might be able to get the backplate free depending on where you order from.

I got one with my SSC and eBay'd it for $20. Solid case means it doesn't matter aesthetically, but it was a nice hunk of metal. LOL

What good does a backplate serve?
(I plan on staying on air cooling, but I will likely overclock the card)

It prevents warping to the PCB, and it acts as a sort of a passive cooler to the rear VRAM chips that aren't under the cooling plate on the front of the card. Said to help lower temperatures by 5 degrees.

If it does or not I have no clue, but it was easy to put on and it gives me a small piece of mind since I'm also keeping it on air and overclocked it.

THIS IS ONLY RUMOUR ABOUT INCOMING NOT ACTIVE YET PROMOTION

So please stop sending emails to amazon or whatever else retailer and wait till nvidia annouces it.

Nvidia has announced it, in fact an Nvidia rep linked the official press release earlier in this very thread.

Cool. I think I will go for the SSC edition.

Wow. Two for one. I know you get W3 for free when you buy an Alienware with either GPU but I'm not sure if you buy the video card alone from Dell.com If I could confirm it I would go ahead and make the jump.

I've seen some tests that show temps actually go a tick or two higher with the plate, but my take is that it makes no real difference temperature-wise. The rigidity thing is also kind of a throwaway, unless you're constantly moving/transporting your case around where bending from motion would be an issue. For folks with clear cases who do like the internal bling, though, I could see it being an attractive option.

In the end though, do what you want, right? And if it's free, even better. :)

Pretty much. :) Free was free, and I have a side window on my case so it looks pretty cool.

the site where i bought it from still displays only witcher 3..I'll wait and then try to get a code from them, but there's little hope

Overclockers UK now have it labelled as free with the GPU I bought a couple of weeks back after telling me an hour ago they weren't doing that deal

Re-emailed em to see what the chances are now.

Well damn. I bought my 970 last week lol. Oh well at least I got the Witcher.

Edit: think it would be worth contacting Newegg? I haven't really interacted with their customer service a lot. I think if it was Amazon I could get then to do it.

Is there a risk to them running out of CD keys for these types of offers? I see the "while supplies last" boilerplate language but I would like to know if there is any harm in waiting a week or so.

Well I called Dell and of course the guy in India had no idea what he was talking about and tried to offer me a $25 discount (which still make it around the same price as it is on Amazon). Thanks but no thanks, I will find another way to use my Dell gift cards. I wish you just had to register the video card on nvidias website or something along with a receipt, it's silly that certain places are offering the games and not others...

Um, it was announced, deals are live and Nvidia employee is posting in this thread about it as well.

Yup, you should. I bought an MSI GTX 970 last Sunday and e-mailed them today. I 1) told them that the price today is $20 cheaper than what I got it for last week and 2) asked if I could still get the Batman code. Just got an e-mail back saying that I would get refunded the difference and that they would give me a code.

Nice. I just bought mine a week ago and they said they couldn't give me the code. Yay consistency! :P

Sucks that most of us already have 1 or two GTX 970/980's. Though I have been thinking about getting rid of my two 970's and just picking up a 980. SLI hasn't been playing nice and it's been upsetting me as of late.

Great deal!

we counting things in PS4's now?

kek

As a recent console-to-PC convert, that's exactly how I think. PS4 is my next gen benchmark.

Yeah, Dell is terrible. They wouldn't even price match the PNY 970 I bought (their $330 vs Amazon's $299) because Amazon was offering W3 for the exact same card. It blew my mind. I now regret giving in and using my $50 gift card.

only have a i5-2400 CPU
Does it make sense to buy a 970 with it and buy a real new PC next year with pascal and new cpu gen. etc.?

Eh, in a year's time you should be seeing a GOTY version of Arkham Knight.

If you're happy with your current set-up or have a PS4/XBO, it'd be better to hold off (provided the console versions aren't trash for some odd reason). Bound to be some pretty good deals this fall too between Battlefront and some possible surprises from E3.

Not for digital code auctions that they don't technically support.

You can easily get burned. Buyer takes your money, doesn't respond. You try to use buyer protection, and they tell you third-party digital content auctions that aren't classified ads are not covered.

Unless you're buying from a mega seller like Buy, Newegg, or Best Buy, you're at risk. I used it for years with a perfect history until I got scammed on both sides, and ebay/PP didn't give a crap. My rule of thumb is unless it's a huge retailer, don't use ebay/PP unless you're ok losing the item or cost.

Hmm, did you talk to a manager w/ customer support? They should be siding with the buyer on this, especially if they don't support these types of auctions. The seller should be the one doing the due diligence on what they are allowed to sell per eBay policies. A buyer should have the right to assume that if an item is listed for sale, the seller is in compliance with eBay policies. If they are not, and the buyer gets shafted - the should be refunding the buyer - not letting a seller who is breaking eBay policy to steal people's money.

Anyone with nvidia connections able to figure out if this will apply to 970m/980m laptops? The witcher promo is active for laptops, can't find batman anywhere.

FOR ANYONE THAT PURCHASED AN ELIGIBLE CARD FROM NEWEGG SHORTLY BEFORE THE ARKHAM KNIGHT PROMOTION STARTED

I just talked with customer service since I bought my card 2 weeks ago and it didn't seem fair that I couldn't get a code despite the very short amount of time that passed since I bought the card. They accommodated my request and sent me a code.

Don't spend $60 on a game you can get for free right now.

I tried Amazon chat, got denied because of the length of time (and the suggestion to return/rebuy which I am not interested in). Those of you who are more persistent than I am, I wish you luck.

It might just be newegg that does it. Hopefully not, because it`s ridiculous that someone would be ineligible for a promotion mere weeks after they bought the card that applies to it
