AMD Radeon Fury X Series | HBM, Small Form Factor And Water Cooling | June 16th

Nvidia better step up their game for the 980ti version if this is true!
If Nvidia can't compete on performance, they will on price. Their chips are quite smaller for them to give up (sob) those hefty profit margins at the expense of not losing market share.

HDMI is designed for consumer entertainment electronics. It progresses as swiftly as necessary, which is to say, not very swiftly at all. It only has to support relatively modest resolutions and refresh rates, because most consumer displays support relatively modest resolutions and refresh rates.

DisplayPort is an interface and connectivity standard designed by VESA for computers. It is the successor to DVI and is designed to support the resolutions and refresh rates we need to drive computer displays.
yes yes that's cool.

it just seemed like people were celebrating the death of dvi while praising hdmi as if hdmi is worth anything at all.

I'm just thankful there's just 1 slot for hdmi and not more.

Looks good!

I'm probably keeping my 980 4G until the warranty runs out at the end 2017. HMB should be standard then on both platforms, I'm really hoping.

AMD needs to crush with this family of cards and actually level the market share again.

If it isn't too much more than a 980 here (6-700 euro) then I might opt for it instead. Is there any single card that can run games at say 4k/60fps or would I be looking at SLI for that?

Isn't GM200 sth. like 600mm²? I doubt Fiji will be bigger than that...

If it is actually 8.5 TF and priced around $600ish ill be sold to buy one in the fall =D. This s coming from a person who has owned NVIDIA products only... 9800GTX, GTX260, GTX560ti and GTX760.

I was talking in context of the GM204, Nvidia could drop 980 to $299 and stem the loss of market share if Fiji is that good. Besides a 500mm² Fiji + interposer I think would still be more expensive than the GM200.

Unlikely I think. Nvidia's brand loyalty is strong enough they can still sell with 40% or more price/perf disadvantage from AMD.

Why are people acting like Displayport connectors aren't compatible with VGA, DVI and HDMI adapters? I would be surprised if there weren't several included in the box even.

Woo, go AMD. Standard water cooling is a killer feature. No more fan noise (edit: relatively speaking) and it's covered under warranty.

Sure, but they'd be bigger fans which would spin more slowly. I'm assuming this is like CPU all-in-one water coolers with external radiators where you can do push/pull fans.

Yeah, I'm really interested to see this. Fan noise is the biggest turn--off for me in PC gaming. I even sacrificed game performance to run with a passively cooled card until The Witcher 2 launched and I bit the bullet on an MSI Twin Frozr 270.

That said, my next PC in my new gaming den will live in a (big, ventilated) cupboard and be connected to a Dolby Atmos sound system, so it won't be a big deal :-)

Looks awesome, but I will reamin cautious for a couple of months to see how it goes. New tech sometimes comes with new problems.

What are the chances the lower-end 300 series cards pack HBM as well? Or is it strictly a 390x thing? Will be disappointed if this is the case.

The only problem I have going AMD is their software support. Plus features like nVidia's Gameworks wouldn't be very productive on a system using just an AMD GPU.

We need a release date on this thing, I need a new video card for the Witcher and I know this is supposed to be launching fairly soon.

First I was excited for the 980ti but I think this has me more now. If this is as good as it sounds and they are affordable - I will certainly jump back into PC gaming as my main platform.

Been debating whether or not to.

The water is cooled by fans....

Yes, but water is many times more effective at carrying heat than air. Add to this the fact that a radiator can provide more surface area (through its fins), than a cooler attached to the GPU board (especially if this card is as small as it seems in these leaks). All this means fans on a radiator can run at very low RPM and still provide excellent cooling performance.

If it had a DVI I might think about getting my first AMD part in 12 years

Whoever thought it was a good idea to remove is a moron...

I'm not sure they're the morons when DisplayPort is adaptable to DVI (and there may even be one included with the product).

I like it.

I thought the 380 would be a rebranded 290/290X? Those specs make it sound weaker?

edit: oh these are OEM. So there might be some changes for the retail products which would include the 290/X.

Yeah, OEM specs, so at least the clock speeds will be higher, those 380 specs match the 285 perfectly, so it's probably a 285 rebrand with some slight improvements, still strange though, it would make more sense for it to just be a 290 rebrand.

I have an irrational fear of water cooling
I dislike watercooling these days because of the complexity of installation/deinstallation and pump vibrations/noise.

(Also obligatory hipster nerd remark: I had a custom watercooling loop for CPU, GPU and chipset before there was such a thing as AiO watercooling :P)

yo that looks small. or am i overestimating how small it actually is? but hey, nvidia ceo/workout guru also held a small pascal gpu in one of the conferences. so maybe it is that small.

then again i guess it will still generate a lot of heat given how it comes with its own watercooler.

just reminded me. xbox is the next watercooler.

AiO has made watercooling a much more 'mainstream' possibility. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever go back to air cooling my CPU.

Oh, it's real small. It's only like an inch and a half longer than its PCI-E connector.
