AP: NFL finds it probable that Patriots deliberately deflated balls

Patriots reported to cheat

Pats fans: Yeah right, y'all are jealous.

Patriots confirmed to cheat

Pats fans: The 49ers did it, so it's ok

Really? Is that what I'm seeing? Two wrongs make a right? How sad.
What you're seeing is people saying, "The Patriots are dirty cheaters and they should be punished so hard! Oh and those other guys that won Super Bowls and went to the Hall of Fame that cheated, um, I guess they cheated too, I don't know... I don't really care BUT THE PATRIOTS MAN, LET ME TELL YOU."

Two, extremely similar, wrongs. Two vastly different opinions. Kinda crazy. And honestly, the real outrage here should be at the source of the problem, and secondarily at the people that abused the failures of the NFL.

People are making it out as a bigger deal then it is, or the NFL rules even has it as, in the rule book the fine for not having the balls at the right PSI is $25,000, not suspensions, not draft picks. If the NFL had thought it was such a huge deal they would have a bigger punishment in there own rules book.

Now if they want to hit the Pats harder for being repeat offenders ok, but dont try to act like this is so huge, and OMG Pats rigged the game suspend Brady for 6 games stuff needs to stop.

I think if you're going to acknowledge the Pats cheating, you have to acknowledge the other teams that did. It's only fair. I don't think it's ever OK for a team to cheat.

Bingo, didnt see your post before I posted but this exactly, so why now is it such a horrible crime? NFL own rules dont even think its that bad

As they say the cover up is worse then the crime. Admitting it happened, taking the fine and knowing the fact they absolutely creamed the colts, they would have been seen the cheaters but the punishment would have sufficed, this would have been swept under the rug, people would still only remember the Seahawks screwing up and throwing the game (literally) away and they would be champions. But no Brady and the organization had to get all defensive 'victim' complex about it talking about how besmirches the team reputation when they already have a reputation for being cheats, this would be small leaflet on a much bigger pile that they made bigger (and the fans of the patriots as well) by acting so defensive over the accusation.

I found this interesting.

Seems the Jets game really pissed off Brady and set this shit into motion.

"More probable than not" is the threshold used by NFL. It was used on purpose. It's NFL-speak for guilty.

Well there ya go. The question now is how much punishment is coming? Im still saying 6 games for Bill and Tom

Zero chance Bill is getting a suspension. The report went out of it's way to basically exonerate the coaching staff and front office.

Knew this would be the first response. Bellichick is a known micro manager and has his finger in every aspect of this team. To say he knew nothing of this is ridiculous

The only hope they have is NBC will have a say in this. They paid millions for their premiere kickoff game and Garappollo vs Ben isn't very enticing

We are going off the report. You can't have it both ways and ignore the report when it doesn't fit what you want to happen.

The conclusion the report came to is that he had nothing to do with this though, so regardless of whether you think that conclusion is correct or not, it's highly unlikely he'll be penalized.

Neither of you understand how the league works. This isn't a court of law the NFL has their own rules, right or wrong they just do.

What the NFL should do

  • Belicheat suspended for 1 season
  • Brady Suspended for 6 games
  • Spygate Tapes released and the story investigated by a 3rd party
  • Patriots organization striped of 4 super bowl wins
  • Any player awards issued during the Belicheat regime are stripped
  • Brady's player stats will be ignored in NFL record books
  • Patriots lose every pick from the 2016 NFL draft and a 2017 1st
  • Ban from current Patriots coaching staff from seeking jobs from other NFL organizations for at least 2 years
  • $4,000,000 owners fine
  • Kraft is banned from all team activities for 3 years

What Goodell will do:

  • Burn the tape and rewatch the Ray Rice tape in his BSDM dungeon

This is justice.

Neither of you understand how the league works. This isn't a court of law the NFL has their own rules, right or wrong they just do.

So what makes you think they'll completely ignore the report exonerating Belichick and fine him anyway, especially if the league and the Pats are so buddy-buddy as many seem to claim? What you're arguing might be theoretically possible but it's so unlikely it can be readily discounted.

Honestly I'm no Pats fan but I do agree that the cheating is being blown out of proportion; especially considering the long history of NFL teams trying to gain a competitive advantage.

I will say that there is something particularly scummy about what they did... and the way they reacted to it was even worse. Brady's smugness + the fact he most likely essentially bribed his ball boy for years is pretty embarrassing.

When people cop to it and serve punishments that are fair I don't find it to be a huge deal, when they lie through their teeth and act like people are doing something wrong accusing them.. fuck that.

Brady probably will get a few games suspension even if he didn't actually do it. If he sues them for defamation and reveals his phone and everything that could exonerate him if he is truly innocent.

Probably a team fine, not sure if Bill/Kraft would get any other penalties.

I wonder if Brady's phone has either:

1) More clear evidence of cheating
2) Possibly revealing other people's knowledge.. like the coach.

In the end I'll be happier if somehow it's proven all Brady did was ask them to make sure the balls were at 12.5 PSI. I don't like the idea of him being both a cheater and a lying asshole.

I believe the exact words Uncle Rog used when punishing Sean Payton for bounty-gate were "Ignorance is no excuse." It's absolutely possible that Belichick gets some of this on him. Of course, Kraft likes to pay off Goodell, so it's possible he goes free.

e - If the Pats want to get off with nothing, it behooves them to force Brady to come clean and take all responsibility.

I won't be happy unless they are forced to add an asterisk to the end of their name and logos as well.

Sean Payton had much greater direct knowledge and was aware of what was going on, and the misconduct was being conducted by his entire defensive staff. Whereas this report makes no allegations that Belichick had any knowledge about what was going on and involved a couple lower level team staff.

from full NFL statement on bountygate said:
5. Although head coach Sean Payton was not a direct participant in the funding or administration of the program, he was aware of the allegations, did not make any detailed inquiry or otherwise seek to learn the facts, and failed to stop the bounty program. He never instructed his assistant coaches or players that a bounty program was improper and could not continue.

I think if you're going to acknowledge the Pats cheating, you have to acknowledge the other teams that did. It's only fair. I don't think it's ever OK for a team to cheat.
I think you are correct. I think about 10% (wild guess, obv) of the people whining about this whole controversy are doing that though.

Let me reword that:

5. Although head coach Bill Belichick was not a direct participant in the deflating or the direction of doing the deflating, he was aware of the allegations, did not make any detailed inquiry or otherwise seek to learn the facts, and failed to stop the deflating program. He never instructed his assistant coaches or players that deflating the balls was improper and could not continue.

""Ignorance is no excuse" --Rodger Goodell on Sean Payton suspension.

If Brady had any honor he would retire.

He wants to play for at least 4 more years.

He's a workout warrior and has on call nutritionists, chefs, trainers, and other staff that have planned his next 4 years.

It's crazy.

I really like Brady honestly.

He might be the best, but given the recent findings, it's gonna tarnish his rep forever.

Sad.

I don't like seeing greats tarnished.

If he is innocent why did he flub the first press conference? OJ looked less guilty than Brady did after that disaster.

And why did he lie that he did not know the "deflator". And why would he wait until after the report came out to sue them and share his phone records when if they could prove his innocence he gets off with no punishment and shit cunty name intact?

I spent 2000 this weekend on air fare and hotels to go watch the pats play the jets in October. Imma be pissed if Brady isn't there.

Let me reword that:

""Ignorance is no excuse" --Rodger Goodell on Sean Payton suspension.

He was aware of the allegations after the Colts game (unless there's conclusive evidence you can show me that he was aware of a systemic deflation program designed to violate the rules before the Colts game), and there was has been no further deflation since then. Payton was made aware of the bounty allegations, and the bounty program continued. There's no way the NFL will penalize Belichick in contradiction of the report exonerating him, on the basis of weaker evidence than it had against Payton, for a violation much less serious than a program to hurt other players and make payments in violation of the cap.

I won't pretend I am concerned with the "effect" of the cheating, or act overly disgusted with it. But I want it to be a big deal, because it's a multiple offender who got caught multiple times and never gets penalized.

So I'd like to see them penalized, and more than an irrelevant fine...just to know that they aren't above bring punished for documented infractions every once in a while.

I'm sure everyone cheats. But only they get caught repeatedly and never suffer meaningfully.

I understand that the Wells report put no blame or knowledge on Kraft or Bellichek, but they are the instruments of creating a cheating culture that has lasted over a decade, that leads to players like Brady to cheat. They are just to blame.

As a Pats fan this is what bothers me - it's weird and I can't see how it's not a straight out lie.

There is 0 reason he should've given up his cell phone though. I can't imagine how you can be a person with any sense of privacy and say that he should've just handed it over to a third party.

Your obsession with the word cunt is really weird and borderline creepy.

Shell-shocked or lying. We'll probably know soon if he tries to fight it or comes clean or w/e

Man you love the word cunt so much I'd think you were a British Jags fan
