Is it possible to change Word 2007 from defaulting to 11pt Calibri as the default font to 12pt Times New Roman with a blank header (so documents don't start at the very top of the page)?

Do you include page numbers in your appendices for a dissertation?

My document goes
cover page, declaration, uni specific form shit, abstract, table of figures, table of contents - all not numbered

then the main body of the document, 7 chapters, all numbered

then references and appendices. should these be numbered? I honestly have no idea. It would make sense to me if they weren't, since they're not really part of the document...

Were the Chile Volcano and Nepal Earthquake connected in any way? I was having a discussion with my dad, and he's adamant that they are. He also thought that magma from an eruption literally came from the center of the earth...

I'm telling him that the earthquake has to do with plate tectonics and an volcanic eruption on the other side of the world isn't going to affect that. His "counter-argument" is that the eruption obviously sent shockwaves through the earth, resulting in the earthquake a few days later. Which I respond that Chile has a fault line running through it too and there was no quake there

Why is it frowned upon to post in threads that haven't had posts in a long time? If someone has questions or discussion in mind that is relevant to the thread, isn't it natural?

If a thread has died it's usually because the discussion has run its course and generally speaking when a thread like that gets bumped it seems like it's usually a "lol, great thread" or "i know what you mean OP" type post that doesn't further the conversation at all. If you think you have something new to bring to the table that people might be interested in, by all means, post and bump the thread. It's just a kind of etiquette, use your best discretion. Keep in mind that over time people get banned or move on from GAF so its entirely possible a portion of people that participated initially can't or won't anymore when a thread is bumped.

There's also the secondary thing that an old thread would clog the front page and take visibility from other newer threads. That is not an issue to me personally at all, but others could see it that way potentially.

If you are really unsure about bumping a thread (assuming you had something specific in mind) you could just post it in here instead. No question is too dumb! :)

Use a different numbering for appendices, as its not included in the main body, but is as an extra. Same goes with charts and abstract and table of contents. Use Roman numerals such as I, II, IV and so on.

I didn't really post on forums until around the time I got an account here, so I don't know forum etiquette too well. I don't relate to the secondary possibility, but I understand it now. Thanks for explaining!

ok guys, i remember there being a firefox extension with which you could make it so a picture on your computer would load in place of a specific image in the internet (like, everytime i'd load www.image.on/imgur.jpg, it would change it for a picture of my choice from my computer), does anyone know if there's something similar for chrome?

i want to change some of the avatars on gaf but i don't want to just straight up adblock the address or something

My question is about the Facebook app on iPhone. It seems to be stacking notification alerts on the app's badge. Right now it's up to about twenty-one. If I click on the app and go to notifications, there may be one new notification but definitely not that many. Maybe none at all if someone was just messaging me on Messenger. After checking it'll disappear but if there is any notification activity again, it'll show a high number of unchecked notifications again on the app's badge.

It wasn't like this about four months ago and I don't know how to fix it. Any ideas?

Why does my laptop mute it's built in microphone when I plug in headphones, and how do I get it to not do that?

edit: whoops i finally figured it out, nvm!

Is it rude or just plain bad form to support someone's Kickstarter by simply handing them over some cash? (Like taking out your wallet and literally handing them over a $20 bill)
Hmm, it's certainly a nice gesture that I'm sure the person would appreciate, but it doesn't really support the Kickstarter in any way. The developer only receives the earned funds if the campaign goal is met; that's why most don't set up a Paypal option until after the main goal is reached. So it would be more helpful to just pledge that $20 to the KS campaign.

I prefer using it in landscape mode. If I put it down on a desk then it almost feels like using a real keyboard when typing. I'm also more used to looking at landscape oriented monitors. I suppose portrait mode might be good if you're holding it so you can easily access the middle of the screen with both of your thumbs.

I did think about this, but then I realized, couldn't the person get himself or a close friend to pledge $20 to Kickstarter on my behalf now that he or his friend has my $20? At the end of the day isn't just the amount contributed?

*Note: when I say "on my behalf" I don't mean it literally. As in they can contribute $20 to KS via PayPal or credit card or whatever and then hold on to my $20 cash. Right, wouldn't that be fine?

Why is the feeling of not fully recognizing something so annoying? I've been watching X-Files and it's filled with actors that I recognize but can't quite place. It's so aggravating for something that is so unimportant, I can't help but have IMDB on my phone to search through the cast. There are tons of things that trigger some sort of half remembered memory but this aggravation doesn't happen every time. Is there a name for this phenomenon and maybe some sort of rationale for why it can be so distracting?

Sure, I guess they could, but I just don't get why you can't pledge yourself rather than going this roundabout way to support someone that puts the onus on them, in the middle of this anxious time-consuming process? Also it's kind of frowned upon (and also kind of silly really given the whole concept of crowdfunding) for the person to add money to their own Kickstarter.

If it's because you don't have a credit card or something, do what I do. Take that $20 and get a prepaid gift card for the amount. Now you can pledge online

I do have a credit card, I also have a pay pal account, I just don't have a KS account, never been on KS or pledged before.

He's a co-worker, I saw him at lunch, there was no one around, as I was going to lunch, I reached to my back pocket, pulled out my wallet, pulled out a 20 and explained to him that I apologize for this unorthodox method, but as he, being my co-worker, I'd like to support his KS... I admit, I played more dumb than I should, I said "I don't know the details of KS" (I actually don;t have an account, nor do I feel like signing up atm)

Anyway the 5 seconds it took for me to reach for my wallet and hand him a 20, was waaaaay more efficient than, filling online registration forms, Credit card numbers, password, email confirmations.. so there, I did my bit... and I also gave him my hard earned 20 bucks for nothing in return, but to support a co-worker with their project that I have really no interest in. so... yeah, that's that. sure he can call one of his buddies and ask him or her to pledge 20 more on KS. and he'll pay him/her as soon as he can etc.. (he's quite the popular guy and has lots of friends)

What are some advantages of a businessman with a background in international relations over one without? I am not to versed in this area so I can't think of much.

What's the origin of the idiom of "take a leaf out of someone's book"? Why is it 'leaf' and not 'page'?

Leaf has also referred to a book's page for about as long as the word has been in English. Following from that the idiom is pretty straightforward and is likely centuries old.

International degrees are typically normal MBAs with a foreign language track and a particular emphasis in classes that aim the student for work in multinational corporations, organizations, and certain styles of government work. So you aim for that degree for that kind of work as opposed to a different elective track in an MBA program for something like domestic entrepreneurship, for example. MBAs in general can let you slide sideways into different career tracks entirely but typically someone going to an international business school will be aiming for an international-oriented job.

If you block someone or if someone blocks you on whatsapp, does it still show the last seen status? Will it show the Last seen status of the blocked contact or will it not show anything at all?

Ok have a question about HDMI splitters.....

Right I have my PC hooked up to a monitor on the one side of my room and I'd like to hook it up for some couch gaming to my TV which is at the other end of my living room. My TV has my ps4 and wiiU attached to it.

Can I get a hdmi splitter and plug it into the back of my PC and have a small HDMI cable running to my monitor and then a long 5m cable running from the splitter in a seperate slot to a HDMI slot on my TV? It would mean I can game on my monitor and then press the switch to change to my TV if needed.

This is possible right?!

That's sorta what I do but I use an hdmi switcher. It has 5 hdmi inputs and one hdmi out to the TV. You can get them fairly cheap from mono price. I have my pc, ps4, xb1, and dvr running through it.

Can't believe this shit happened to me. Looks like my browser is hijacked. What's a good program to combat this? Been so long since I have had to deal with this kind of thing. The only odd program I notice was something called fixmypcuti... something a long those lines. I got rid of it, but the weird browser pop ups persist. Even noscript doesn't catch some of em.

ADWCleaner, Malwarebytes

So, GAF doesn't load my recent posts any more. Welcome Red Hood >> Your Posts gives me something from two days ago as the most recent post (which is incorrect). I've already tried logging off and on, which in turn cleared all cookies, but after logging on again it still doesn't refresh for me.

Anyone knows what's up?

Should work fine. But I just used DVI cable for monitor and HDMI for the TV at the other end of the room though.

Question from me:
Can I just change my email for my Neogaf account to a 'free' email now that I am a member, as I am leaving Uni soon and that is the email address I am currently using.

Same here. Try contacting a mod about it.
