Witcher 3 Pre-load live on GOG Galaxy

http://play.thewitcher.com/

For moment there is just background, I wonder what is purpose of that site?

What's the interaction between Steam and Galaxy like? If I install the game via Galaxy, can I easily add it as a non-Steam game? I'd assume so.

Yeah, just add TW3's .exe as non-Steam game to Steam and you are set. Galaxy is basically advanced GOG Downloader and isn't required for game to work.

Great, thank you.

Surprised at the relatively small file size. Where are the HUGE texture files and uncompressed audio?!

0.5mb/s from galaxy but 10mb/s from regular gog, i think i'll stick to that

Same here, switched back to the GOG downloader and everything is all good. Don't like Galaxy at all, and it seems to currently offer nothing of worth (to me) - so I'll just not bother with it.

I have a question.

Being GoG a DRM-Free service, shouldn't you be able to play it once it has been downloaded? How does it prevent the game from being played?

Hmm, getting a 404 from GOG.com when trying to download the parts.

Its currently only available via Galaxy and GOG downloader, the separate part links got removed (well the info for them at least, as the links still show up) very shortly after they went up.

Does this have Steam achievement support too? I know it's stupid, but I tend to have no motivation to go achievement-hunting unless I can earn them through Steam :(

Nope it's not possible with non-steam games, the only way you'll get steam achievements is to purchase the game through steam :(

Sorry, I know that. Should have been clearer but I suppose this thread is aimed at the Galaxy pre-load.

Will it have Steam achievements if purchased through Steam?

Thanks :)

Well I did get a free witcher code from press event.. does anyone know if a gtx 680 can run the game and still look okay?

I have a 680 Lightning so I hope so! I was toying with the idea of capping at 30fps if it means a more consistent and better looking experience.

Oh, gotcha. I'm pretty sure it will, as the last two Witcher titles on Steam have had them, but nothing has been confirmed so far to my knowledge. You can probably expect the achievements to be something like this list that leaked during April (POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING!).

You guys should be fine, the minimum requirements are a GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870. I wouldn't imagine it could look any worse than the PS4/XBO versions (at 30fps) as it's more powerful than what they have internally, but it will depend on the level of optimization that CDPR has done for these platforms.

Historically, CDPR has been great with performance optimizations for their titles so you can only expect that it will run smoother with time. Here's hoping for a smooth launch!

Getting 3.5mb a sec through Galaxy, same as Steam.

I've got a 580 and I'm pretty nervous about it.

My 670 and I certainly hope so. I'm planning on locking the framerate at 30 and aiming for PS4-level graphics, so hopefully it's well optimised.

Working well for me. I average 6.5-6.7MB/s on Steam and I'm getting the same for this. I actually expected their servers to buckle, but it seems they were ready.

Pre-load complete, now the wait begins...

So can I change the install directory with GOG Galaxy or do I need to install this to my SATA HDD first? I really don't want it downloading 30gbs of data to my SSD and I can't find a directory option.

e: Nevermind found it. It's the cog in the bottom left. Not sure why you can't change this in the "settings" as well. Should probably be added in the future.

So after the downloader for the GOG manager is done, can you install the game or do I have to wait till the day of release in order to get the other files?

The files are there, not encrypted or anything, i guess as soon as you have downloaded 1.01 you can start right away.

Those with download speed problems, please contribute by participating in their CDN speed test. That way, they can spot the bottleneck and maybe possibly eventually fix it.

Also: Downloading 26 Gigs ain't nothing to sneeze at. The wait continues.
