The Splatfests are going to happen at night in the Splatoon world, with glowing ink, it seems.

you should watch derrick's stream haha. dude was a roller noob. talked about how he liked it because of how OP it was then proceeds to get wrecked by every splattershot that comes his way.

Okay SplatoonGAF, help me with something.

I comically watched the Direct after the final Testfire hour, and learned about the skills you can get on your armor from there. Watching Testfire footage, my best guess is that they gave everyone increased ink tanks, faster respawn, and special bar refund on death. Implications would mean that most alt weapons use up your entire tank, respawn is normally a few seconds longer, and you usually get less of your special bar (25%?) on death. Anyone else have a guess?

Andre kept running out of ink and had the situational awareness of a blind goat lol. I know it's hard being entertaining and playing at the same time but jeeze lol

He won first or second on his team in almost every match iirc.

I've done a few streams--it's a lot harder to play well than it looks. Way harder. And that was on a small channel with only a few viewers--I imagine it's a lot harder when it actually matters lol

I don't know if you all know (and if it goes here) but besides Saltspray Rig and Walleye Warehouse, here are the levels shown so far:

-Blackbelly Skatepark
-Arowana Mall
-Urchin Underpass
To be at launch.

Camp Triggerfish

Unnamed Construction Site

Port Mackerel

Factory Stage

Town Stage (apparently NOT Arowana Mall)

City/Railroad Stage

Beyond that there is a shot of the 'waiting room/tutorial' with more than one inkling - so there could be a modified version of it, but its doubtful.

So that's 11 of the supposed 14?

One of the things that's so awesome about this game is how intimately you need to be familiar with the maps to really be successful. Because so much of the game is finding those spots to paint that other people don't think of, and creating paths to travel quickly.

Just looking at these pics I'm thinking about the kinds of things I'll need to learn when I play them.

They all look fantastic but I'll be surprised if I don't end up loving the Camp and Town maps.

The latter should have some neat, MK8-esque fake branding!

yep, the demo really sold me on their vision to be honest

I never really got bored of switching between two maps because there was always another strategy to try out and new things to learn about each map. at the end of a match I'd frequently think to myself "I hope we play there again so I can do *thing* differently". throw in all of the different weapons and customization options and I totally get what they're going for. the variety is in how you choose to approach everything.

I'm really looking forward for the Camp. Just the fact that is hazard-centric and it seems like it's tough to get to the higher ground seems like it'd be so much fun to plan around.

yeah that map looks really interesting.

also I think I just figured out that Nintendo's roll-out of content is a way of having a tutorial in an online game. pretty interesting. just noticed on the camp map that there are grated surfaces with nothing under them but water. if you were to play on that map first you'd have a lot of frustrating deaths because in squid-form you just fall through the grates and right into the water.

meanwhile in the warehouse level there are grated surfaces but falling through them just puts you on the normal ground below. it's like in mega man where they introduce a mechanic in a safe environment first and then test you on it later. seems that a lot of the tactics learned on the rig and in the warehouse will be expanded upon in the later maps. I guess Nintendo wants to make sure that everyone playing has a proper learning progression. pretty neat.

While that's certainly a nice way to think of it, a more realistic reason is that the other maps aren't fully done yet.

On the death screen it shows the 3 perks of your enemies loadout. I'm pretty sure Roller had Ink Saver and Special Saver. I know not all loadouts had special Saver cause the bar would go down upon death with other weapons. I don't remember anything else but you could go through the videos and figure out who had what if you're really interested.

Is there any DLC confirmed for this game? Or do we only know about the free content roll outs later on?

We only know about the free stuff currently.

I bet there will be DLC, but they're going to handle it carefully considering how much content is being reserved for post release. They don't seem terribly confident in keeping player numbers up over time.

But Nintendo has been extremely good with DLC lately, so I wouldn't worry about it being too loutlandish.

Thanks for this. At least for the Splattershot you had Ink Saver, Special Saver, and the one I thought was Ink Capacity was actually Ink Recovery Up. This will be a fun exercise...

Edit: It was actually very quick. All four weapons definitely had the same abilities. You see your current abilities in the upper right corner under your special bar.

So much variety in the maps wow and they look pretty much done no wonder they will be releasing them every two weeks or so.

Where did you get the 14 number from?

No problem. :) Hmm, maybe it was Splattershot that had Special Saver then? My memory is fuzzy I guess. It felt like only one loadout had it.

Oh really? I missed that part. So in all we will get 14 maps as free content? Pretty good if it was at launch oh well atleast it is coming in a timely manner.

I wonder whats is next after all 14 maps and aug update is out.

5 at launch and 9 as DLC to clarify.

I edited, but after checking footage, all four weapons had the same skills. Ink Recovery Up, Faster Respawn, and Special Saver. Of course, we also don't know if they were active and just placeholders (assuming that all clothing *must* have a skill on them).

Will they be on the disc already and just locked off then? That wouldn't make much sense.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure we've seen some of the free DLC maps being played on before

they also did the thing where they lock ranked battles until you get to level 10 and until a certain number of people get to level 10 worldwide. really seems like they're trying to ease people into this game and make sure that everyone has a pleasant learning progression.

Huh. I definitely remember there being loadouts that completely saved the special on death and others where the bar would go down. They could be placeholders but I could be remembering wrong too. Good work.

Yea, all abilities/perks are a part of the Gear except for the weapon. Everyone had the same gear and even those with pre-purchase gear and the SRL gear had the same perks.
Thats an awesome website. I hope it takes off and forms a big competitive community. When Aug hits they should start a tournament. The only problem is verifying who wins, someone will need a pvr.

I am sure the home button is disabled online and there is no ingame share feature.
People won't be assholes like that for the most part. The honor system works fine for the most part. And besides, people have phones and can take pictures of the scoreboard if it really is something they need.
Sounds awesome. Here is another one that sounds different: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wX9lGUaNJI
