Speaking of Splatoon withdrawl, anyone got any links of people discussing the game or something.. I've watched everything Nintendo has put out... just trying to pass the craving by filling it with Splatoon

The paintbrush can have a longer range for splashing attack, and better sub and special weapons.

Is this confirmed or just speculation? I dunno if the brush would have longer range, the swipes are so quick they might balance it out by having less range. Roller gets a windup animation but longer range.

edit: I suppose they should really be called "strokes".

True, it's possible. To me it looks like you could run circles around a Roller. If they try to flick ink at you dive under to dodge. Less paint output than the Roller but more mobility and quicker swipes, I think it'll work out.
You might be right!

Are sub and special weapons locked to main weapons?

Check SquidBoards, lots of threads about the game there

Dem black squids. I love the fact this game has skin color customization (take that, Animal Crossing :P)

I pre-ordered mine too. I didn't want to support amiibos, but I couldn't resist :x

Same team so that looks promising for the future. :)

It makes sense, but I think I read somewhere there are variations or something. Like Roller with the Killer Wail, Roller with a different special weapon, etc.

The weapon, its sub weapon and special is called a "Set". There are different types of rollers, the Killer Wail is the special for the Splat Roller. It was explained in the Splatoon Direct.

I said this once in a different thread and someone "corrected" me saying only the director is the same. But I will take your word, you seem to be knowledgeable about the subject.
oh ok cool. well we'll find out not soon enough!
Yeah!

Oh ok. I know there are various different "rifles", I should have realized the same is valid for the roller.

If the paintbrush paints less and has shorter range than the roller it would be in a quite clear disadvantage. The speed of strokes doesn't really matter in a one to one face-off. I think the stroke speed compensates the fact that there is less paint splattered in one stroke.

Are sub and special weapons locked to main weapons?

Yes, but as already mentioned there are also different kind of weapons for each kind (e.g. more rollers with different characteristics and sub/special weapon)

Well, that someone is correct, too. It's not literally the exact same group of people but it's the general EAD group, EAD2 who works on Animal Crossing and is also doing Splatoon under Eguchi (general EAD overlord now) and Nogami, who used to be producer on AC until City Folk and then took over Splatoon after Nintendo Land. The lower level employees get shuffled around across all EAD groups anyway.

THIS IS THE ONE1

All that rolling. Lets power it up even more

I can quit anytime I want, but any testfire demos is welcome, still got the demo on my wiiU nintendo, just sayin

If you were thinking Nintendo locking the online mode until enough people reach lvl 10 was because it isn't done yet and Nintendo is releasing an unfinished product:

Stop thinking that.

liar liar pants on fire! :D

I always found it pretty clear that they're doing this to ensure the presumably small launch userbase is concentrated in the same mode so you can always find a game and also get accustomed to the base concept and mechanics before everyone ventures out into different modes and more complex scenarios. Especially considering how this really isn't like any other shooter out there, both in terms of goals and mechanics. As you can see by people comparing this to other shooters being irritated by what it wants you to do.

I gotta agree with someone's previous post on the matter: rollers are like the little macs of splatoon aka seems good at first but very middling once the game is out.

It'll be meme'd to death as well.

yeah this seemed pretty obvious to me

I think rollers do have a lot of value for stealth attacks and as final push assets.

Thanks for explaining, TheMoon :D

It was clear that it was done when they revealed that the mode would have to be unlocked by them lol. I doubt anyone following the game thought it wasn't finished. Probably not for people who weren't following the game.

I just think its dumb that they have to unlock it till enough people are at lvl 10 rather than letting people join the mode as soon as they're at lvl 10 like any other online multiplayer game that has stuff locked behind level requirements.

Yeah I can agree that they will have their uses. But they are nowhere near the crazy OP weapons that people make them to be. I understand that some are just in good fun but still. I have to wonder how many rollers I'm gonna meet day 1 when I get the game and go online lol.

One little thing I noticed is that squid form can spread a tiny amount of ink every time you swim out of the edge of your ink. It's not a game changer and is actually useless for spreading ink, but it's a nice little detail that they added.

Any other modes besides SplatZones there or is this under NDA? I'm talking about the presented ones, the tower and rain things.

Rollers tend to ignore their squid forms more often so they lack mobility, but the few that dont can he very dangerous.

Yea I was arguing that point yesterday with Mr. "I broke the game because I was good with rollers while others were still learning how to use the other guns and now I won't be buying it until it's fixed" :D

Well, Tower Control and Rainmaker were announced in the Direct.

Can share: First three worlds of single player and amiibo levels.
Can not share: Absolutely no information about the scrolls. (Wondering what this is all about.)

Other than that all is fine and can be shared.

Paraphrasing here.

The Dynamo Roller seems more powerful than the Splat Roller used in the Testfire Demo.

Can you share how many levels are in each world and/or possibly how many worlds total there are?

Oh cool, the singe player is divided in worlds? Very platformer-like. I dig it.

First three worlds or first three levels?

Scrolls are probably under NDA because they're supposed to be the backstory/lore for the game, so they can be considered spoilers.

I think so too.

If the paintbrush paints less and has shorter range than the roller it would be in a quite clear disadvantage. The speed of strokes doesn't really matter in a one to one face-off.

It would paint less like we agree on, so it will take more strokes to take out the roller than vice versa. That could be considered a disadvantage. It has shorter range which means the brush needs to get in closer to deal damage, another disadvantage. It has an advantage though: It's speed. The brush user can run a good amount faster, they won't be getting rolled. If the Roller tries to flick ink the windup period will telegraph the move, enough for the brush to evade. If the Roller has shorter range he'll never catch the inkbrush. Squid against squid: same speed. Rolling paint: slower, but wider spread. Flicking paint: out-ranged. The Roller would pose no threat to the brush user and the only advantage would be paint output.

The short version: Roller = Slow with a club. Paintbrush = Fast with a knife.

It must be said I get simultaneously excited and nervous when a game I heavily look forward to is confirmed to have its review copies sent in

I do hope the reception is good

Based on the testfire, what weapon types are you guys going to go with? I had the most fun with the Charger and the Jr, so that's what I'm going with.

I know, but I'm curious if they are in the review copies or not.

Then you can answer my question: turf war and splat zones are the only online modes in the review copy or are there also the ones coming later? And btw, do you have access to the online mode?

I'm probably going to go with a Shooter based on what I experienced from the Splatshot Jr and how I think some of the weapons in the Direct looked. The Airbrush looks like a lot of fun. I really want to try out the Paint Brush though.

If we can't reconfigure loadouts, swapping between the roller and the Jr. That shield is probably the most useful power in the game.

lol broke the game

Wouldn't surprise me that there are more powerful variations. Though I'm sure its got its drawbacks.
