'I shot George Zimmerman, call 911'
An employee at a nearby business, Kenneth Cornell, said he was exiting his car after lunch when a man drove up and started yelling about the shooting.

The man shouted to Cornell: "I shot George Zimmerman, call 911. I don't have a phone."

Cornell said the man didn't know whether Zimmerman was hurt. He called 911.

According to Cornell, the man told him that he and Zimmerman have had three disputes. This time, Zimmerman waved a gun and the man shot at him, according to Cornell.

Police arrived minutes after he called 911, Cornell said.

Police have not verified Cornell's account to CNN.

Basically the guy says Zimmerman waved a gun at him and he shot back. He then found someone to call 911 because his phone wasn't working.

Waiting for more information.

"I was just cleaning my favorite piece." he began, sitting in the leather recliner of his father's living room. Staring at the red and black parkay patterned rug in front of him, he recounted his experience. "I was cleaning my guns. At home, minding my business. Was just about to clean my Taurus .22 practice pistol. A gift from my father. First, I made sure the gun was unloaded. Empty chamber, nothing in the clip. Then I set the gun down on the table. Now I know I am supposed to have the windows open, to provide a well ventilated area, but...", he paused, "you know. Someone might climb in and threaten my life, so really I just turn the ceiling fan up to high." At this point, George turns a pallid shade of pink, and begins wringing his hands. "I know, no one believes me, but I know what I saw. A black man. I had just gone upstairs to grab my new brush kit, and another beer. I heard a noise, like thunder, but like with more bass..." His voice trails off, he looks up at the ceiling. "I go back to the living room and I see a man, a black man standing there, with my gun in his hand."

He turns and looks me in the eyes, zero expression, he continues, "'How did you get in here? What are you going to do to me?', I ask him. You know? He just smiles, his eyes start glowing white and he shoots me in the leg. Holy $@#%$, right? But then get this. He vanishes, into black smoke. Right in front of my eyes. I was the only one home. No one else saw it, and the neighbors must have called the police from hearing the gunshot. But I know what I saw. I just don't know who I can tell. The cops? The tv reporters?"

He goes on to explain why he agreed to this interview with #freedomwire Conservative Social Media News. "The community, the supporters out there have always stood behind me. And they need to know. Something is happening. I don't know what, but I'm not safe, and probably neither is anyone else."

Not counting Trayvon, isn't this like the 5th person who has had George wave a gun at them?!

I really don't like this meme:

irony. inherently when a non-black person is involved, the 'people' always wait for all the information before forming a judgement or harboring any pre-judgement. but then you have statistical evidence that black persons face pre-judged conclusions and profiling and a much higher rate. So the joke of the "meme" is the irony of declaring the obvious in the face of the casual hypocrisy of society.

edit: well that latest update sounds about perfect. Maybe this will be the last we hear of George Zimmerman? Finally encountering someone else with an actual gun, and getting a "minor" shot in the face.

The delicious irony of the same "stand-your-ground" "I was intimidated" rhetoric being used against Zimmerman in a case where he was actually armed and threatening someone. By precedent, the shooter should get off on self-defense easily.

I really, really hope Zimmerman tries and fails to get the shooter prosecuted.

I really don't like this meme: it really s a good idea to wait for more information before jumping to conclusions. It's a bad idea to rush to conclusions that suit your preconceived notions. I say this as someone who firmly believes in systematic racism; it does exist, but that doesn't mean every single time a black person is hurt in an interaction with police officers that the police are the bad guys. Far more often than they should be, but not always, and we need more information to figure out who is who.

I understand that racists hide behind this explanation to disguise their racism, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater on this one.

yup.

I mean, yes, that's definitely true, and I totally get where the people making that joke are coming from. I think what Opiate's getting at is that people also use it to suggest that anyone asking for more information or that we not rush to judgment is a diet racist. Which, yeah, they might well be, but given how important and useful it is in general to avoid rushing to judgment in favor of gathering more info, it's kind of a harmful meme.

So Zimmerman got shot in the face by someone in a road rage incident and GAF is calling for his arrest and/or death minutes later?

Metaphoreus

This is semantics, and nothing more
I read his comment as being sarcastic...

But that's the problem. I read the comment the same way that Opiate read it--as disparaging the idea that we should reserve judgment until more information becomes available. And that disparagement isn't obviously phrased as targeting those who claim they want to wait for more information but are secretly racist. Instead, it's phrased as targeting anyone who would suggest patience. The danger is that people will begin to think that any call for patience will be treated as evidence of racism. As a consequence, you can expect that people will be reluctant to make such calls, even when it's obviously warranted. The better approach, I think, is to give the benefit of any doubt to someone who says people should wait for additional information.

Damn. I hope the probability of him being okay is by a single increment higher than that of him not surviving.

If taken under the assumption that it's going to somehow hurt the investigative or cognitive judgmental process of the average person, I would agree. But barring that, I would ask, where is the objection? To the sarcasm and cynicism of a person making the joke? That someone might detect that sarcasm and loose faith in the Justice system? Or that detected sarcasm, unchecked encourages further sarcasm?

Or that someone might take the sarcasm at face and actually wait for more information? I mean, the general practice is to get facts, everyone has opinions, but wait for the facts. That's the basic, that doesn't seem to apply to everyone, for social reasons. So making fun of that fact still seems relevant, and more relevant than someone possibly thinking it implies they're somehow racist. Particularly when they're not referenced directly or indirectly.

I'm seriously just a dope though, so whatevs.

I'm sure. "Rush to judgement!", they always say.

He was probably shot at because of who he is. He didn't necessarily do anything (new) to provoke this shooting.

Given the stances of a lot of these posts, I'm wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few people out there who would take a shot at Zimmerman given the chance.

I could be wrong, but that seems the most probable conclusion.

That would be interesting if it's true, and I bet it is. While a gun may not be as lethal as a bag of Skittles, Zimmerman should know that waving one in someone's general direction could be interpreted as threatening.

Dunno whats going on, but this guy seems to be way worse off being free than behind bars. Not that its better for us all, because others could get hurt or worse being around some mess that happens because of him.

This scumbag has a history of violence and you figure the most probable cause for him getting shot is because he's famous?

Seriously?

Zimmerman plays rent a cop, racially harasses co workers, kills black boys, beats significant others and can never stay out of trouble for too long. What a thug.
