Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Was this faster than MN9?

According to Kicktraq it took Mighty Number 9, three days to reach it's starting goal of 900,000.

This project took THREE HOURS just to get to 500,000

Yes, I'd say it's outpacing MN9 by a fair margin, and MN9 managed to raise a total of 4 million.

If Bloodstained continues to keep up the pace it does, it's possible to get decent amount of money.

I'm going to guesstimate and say about 3 million total raised by the end of this thing on the 32nd day.

Hopefully one of the hidden stretch goals is 2D sprites for characters with 3D backgrounds. That way we get nice character sprites, but the game still qualifies as 2.5D.

I think asymmetry is cool:(

To me, the most interesting thing is that because the game is 2.5D, they'll actually be to render that kind of detail in-game easily enough (whereas traditional 2D would have been a much more involving ordeal to render similarly).

I also hope that 2.5D means that we'll actually get to see Equip items actually reflect on the character model in real time. Always was such a shame to read all the nice flavor text that goes along with a cool cape/hat/boots/etc in the GBA/DS Vania's, but it was just stat numbers, otherwise.

About OoE: While I liked the pull away from anime cel art, I wasn't really a big fan of the drawings themselves, they were rendered fine, if a little chiseled, but the line art felt drab and dull, lacking the subtler qualities of the sotn/hod/aos art. They felt like painted marble statues in the portraits. I ended up not really enjoying the feel of them much. Even cotm got closer to the proper attitude, even if Nathan was kind of a 'rad dude' compared to CV heroes.

I also feel like Shanoa's design is too sullen. She blends into the background and doesn't come off as a strong hero. She was fine, but not great.

I was a big fan of the proper renders everyone got in CV:HD, even if there was a definite style gap in some of the underlying designs from the later 2 ds games.

I kind of like the idea of "A Shanoa" being a character archetype for CV alongside "Vampire Hunter" and "Vampire" and "Witch"

I'm honestly quite surprised they don't have a medium option thats $15-20

most kickstarter games give you a pretty decent discount up front, and this game I wouldn't expect to be more than 30-40 at retail, but I fucking love igavania's so I'm in. I just think a cheaper tier with the game would be a little easier for most to bite on.
yeah, I might go in for $30...but really, it's a damn long wait lol.

Imagine this room in glorious HD, but from the sides...

And then imagine it in 3D Vision or the like.

Games on Kickstarter are more expensive than the regular sale price, since you are paying for the project to happen initially.

The released games are regularly cheaper. I am betting on 20$ digital.

I dunno.. Wasteland 2 (15 for backers, 40 on Steam), Broken Age (15 backers, 25 Steam), Divinity Original Sin (25 backers 40 Steam) just off the top of my head are examples of games that were cheaper on KS than they were when they went on sale to the public

In for a hundred. They suckered me in to $60 for the exclusive content, and then I figured it's better to get the soundtrack OST this way rather then trying to buy one through ebay later.

I LOVE how this Shadow Complex gameplay is highlighting exactly what doesn't work on Shadow Complex :)

Do better, IGA :)

Never played Shadow Complex but just looking at it, I hope IGA won't get his inspiration from this. All 2D, and no gameplay breaking action like a a takedown.

Why couldn't they use dracula? lol.

I think they'd avoid it, but there's no reason they couldn't.
Probably who they are and what they want to make. If it were a random indie or they wanted to do something that happened to have Dracula in an inconsequential way it'd be fine, but Konami could more easily get riled up if it was THAT close.

I think part of the reason some of the tiers are more pricey than normal is because they want more of the money that is coming in to go towards funding the game. A big cost of any tier is actually filling out the rewards. I couldn't tell you if they would be more successful having cheaper tiers though. They maybe get fewer total backers and less money but if a higher percentage of the funds from each backer go to the game then they win maybe?

It gets much, much better as you play -- it's an excellent game. But the intro is dreadful.

Did you play Batman Blackgate? It wasn't quite like that...but it was sort of similar iirc, and it was pretty bad to navigate.

There were two problems with Blackgate's map layout:

1) The world was actually 3D and the 2D "path" Batman followed could would turn and twist quite often. It was actually a great idea if it weren't for...

2)...the map being top-down 2D with zero floors/height information. There were several areas stacked on top of each other vertically and no way to tell in which one you were and in which one the corridors connected by looking at the map. A Metroid Prime style map would have solved the problem.

I like the art direction in this to be honest, and I've never been a massive fan of Ayami Kojima's art. Besides, the boat sailed on Castlevania looking anime like a long time ago, back with Dracula X, before Kojima did any Castlevania work.

Backed at the $60 tier. I'd like to go up to the $150 tier but I'm not sure I can afford it at this point in time.

This is amazing news. So glad it got funded so quickly.

Yamane-san <3

I feel that no matter what An Empty Tome was still the most representative of that game. Then again, OoE was full of hella catchy tunes.

Rhapsody of the Forsaken. Not just my favorite OoE song, but the best CV song of all time IMO.

Are people looking at these donations as a price tag for the game... and not donations with rewards? BAH HAH HAH HAH!!!

To be honest, that's how I have looked at every game I back. Fully paying for really early preorders that may or may not include stuff that will not be available after the kickstarter.

Oh man everything about this looks great.

Love the art, the weapon designs, character designs, EVERYTHING.

But, Inti Creates and no gameplay footage, dunno if I want to back.

Is the physical copy for consoles just a kickstarter thing or is it going to get a retail release?

Someone on that twitch stream needs to ask where the hell the PC version of Shadow Complex is. I'd double dip in an instant.

So, recap:

4:36: $500,000 reached
5:38: $600,000 reached

If this keeps up ($100,000 per hour), it will meet all of the stretch goals today

I don't like that they're tying significant kickstarter backer rewards behind a $60 physical copy. They're apparently only asking for $500k for this, I don't have much faith that it full featured enough to justify $60.

The game is 90% publisher funded. The $500k is just 10% of the budget that they couldn't secure.

Can someone explain to me the difference between the developers comcept and Inticreates?

Are they all under one roof? Are the same dudes who are making Mighty No. 9 making this? (Please no)

Yeah, it's really not coming off well. 2009 thinking that doesn't hold up six years on. They're so proud that they've locked the player in a little box underneath the little in-engine cinematic they make you watch for a ridiculously long time. You can't escape or move on, all you can do is ruin the attempt at drama and framing of the shot by running around, panning the camera and jumping at the walls like a rat in a cage.

I hope he's paying attention as he politely works his way through this thing they've put in front of him.

I think it's just a backer thing
