Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Cheat codes - even difficulty altering ones - are pretty fucking innocuous. It's not going to change your enjoyment of the game if they exist. Are you mad that -other- people might enjoy them? Frankly I'm of the opinion more games need cheat menus and other methods for tinkering around with the game; they're a lost pleasure. Don't act like you speak for all fans.

Oh man.

Dude, get a drink or something. Something simple as adding cheat codes on a stretch goal is as it is. I fail to see how they've mismanaged this Kickstarter by that.

Haha oh man. My point <<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> These kind of replies. Alright, hopefully, their 3 million stretch goal will be an alternate start screen, I'm sure you guys will gobble that shit up.

I don't like the idea of exclusive game content for some tiers. Just rubs me the wrong way.

As long as the physical game is released even in a basic version at retail, I'm OK. I don't need the special weapon or boss. If it releases at best buy I'll save my $12 and get it with my GCU discount.

I think they will update the stretch goals with more reasonable stuff. They probably didn't think they would blast through the goals in a single day.

By all means, please explain your point more clearly then, instead of acting like a sanctimonious shit about it.

I randomly decided to click on the whip while watching the stream, and then it gave me an Ori key. I was all 'wuuuuuuut!' and it ended up being used already.

I've been had >:C .

Very first pledge and I feel like I did put some money at the right place. :)

Please don't disappoint, Igarashi.
I know you won't.

I read this over and over because I was reading "Zero" as somebody's name/handle. I'm like, who is Zero? What is he planning?

lol, I can see how that would be confusing.

I kinda agree. We will see if they were talking just about the physical version that has the content included, or the content itself. They way they worded it didn't really make it clear. They led into it talking about how fast the Retro City Rampage ps4 edition sold, and how it was because it was "super limited". I don't really agree with that, and wish that I could get a copy of that as well, instead of seeing ebay sellers sell hundreds of them.

I went and did it... I hope Igarashi comes through on his promise. Also, duckroll slayer incoming? =o

Holy shit haha.

Dude you're overreacting. It's a cool/silly little thing they added as thank you to the backers. That's it. Chillax.

Bullshit. I just tweeted and tumblred and everything about this game, even saying it would be a perfect fit for WiiU.

I mean other then it being made on UE4, which WiiU can't do. :3

The basement/dungeon stretch goals will probably be something to do with the WiiU

That's my problem with his posts. Instead of discussing or get into a nice debate, he goes into a holier than thou position instead.

We get it. You're a huge Castlevania fan. You want this to be everything you ever desired.

Doesn't mean you should be an ass when people disagree with you mate.

And the stream is over. This shall be an interesting coming month for sure!

They were just pretty clear in the stream. They said something like "We currently have no plans to make the exclusive kickstarter content available in any other way."

I already did in my previous post. Making a cheat codes stretch goal for $150,000 is not only ridiculous and kind of scummy (which is a horrible thing for kickstarters), it's also very apparent that it was hastily thought of and not managed correctly in terms of the core audience's expectations. I have nothing against cool cheat codes that will alter the game experience (which they did not state is the case), but this could've been a 5k stretch goal.

Each Kickstarter has a limited duration, so you want to maximize the budget growth if you want to make a better game; you do that by putting meaningful stretch goals that the audience wants, not some BS goals.

Don't get me started on the local coop goal. Oh boy.

All this kickstarter has taught me is to not hire Fangamer to market and manage the community for your KS or game.

I mean they admitted in the KS comments they weren't prepared for the response. What the hell? You prepare for everything, from abject failure and doom to complete and perfect flawless victory. You have to have a plan in place for any kind of reception so that you don't look like you are fumbling a bit.

Not a good look for them.

Iga and co just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Kickstarter culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like on Indiegogo where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw you're backers on Kickstarter, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the kickstarter public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to back Bloodstained for any system, nor will they purchase any of Iga's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Iga has alienated an entire market with this move.

Iga, publicly apologize and cancel cheat codes for kickstarter stretchgoal or you can kiss your kickstarter goodbye.

Alienated who with what moves? Cheat codes are pretty cool

The "audience" =/= you exclusively.

And since we're so fond of speaking objectively, it's clear people have responded favorably as the funding keeps going up and up.

This game is supposedly coming 2017, the 3DS and Wii U will be long dead by then. Making half assed versions for them would be a complete waste of time and resources.

Nintendo fans are better off waiting for an NX version.

Hard to decipher if its amateur hour or them just playing the humble card to not look lke they expected 3 million.

Also someone should make sure they are reading this thread cause we have some good critiques of their campaign.

As you watch the Kickstarter zip past the one million mark, consider reading this:

Just to be sure, there'll be a physical version sold down the line, and it won't be a backer exclusive... right?

From the kickstarter comments ...
"Hey there folks!
Thank you so much for all of your incredible support! We're pretty overwhelmed (and incredibly sleep deprived) right now, but we'll respond to your questions and direct messages as soon as we're able to. We’re working as fast as we can to prepare more stretch goals, achievements, and unlocks—needless to say, this was a little unexpected!

Yeah, they worded it like that? I must have misheard. Thought they were still talking about, or it could be amused that they were talking about, the physical version of the game gotten from kickstarter.

They haven't even updated the backer achievements on day one of the kickstarter. Serious amateur hour over there.

well this looks pretty good. hope it turns out great. it;s got a lot going for it so far.

thanks for funding it before i even realized it was on kickstarter! im sure ill buy it when it comes out.

I wouldn't hire then because apparently they made the choice to make the physical version super limited because of how fast another super limited game they had sold through. Fuck that. I'm still salty as fuck that I can't get the ps4 physical version of Retro City Rampage.

I think people are largely forgetting what 'cheat code' means in the igavania universe.

Usually those cheat codes completely change the game. Like the 99 luck code in SotN. Or the Magician cheat code in CotM. Etc, etc.

Is there something I can do to stop this from happening? Is there some hotline to call? Surely IGA must be breaking some law or violating something. I can't let this happen.... :(

It probably will. These Japanese producers are no different from Richard Garriot and Peter Molyneux. Businessmen suits who survive off a legacy from decades ago, who know how to prey on the nostalgia of fans who have more money than sense.

But I'm sure no one backing it will mind. If you can convince yourself that Igavania games are good, it shouldn't be too hard to enjoy anything!

The last half dozen "castlevania" games.

He'll say anything to steal your money. Don't believe his lies!!!!!!!!

He's an executive producer at ArtPlay: http://artplay.co.jp/about/

I think... I'm going to go throw up. :(

Why can't I put a mod on the ignore list?

Is there some kind of stretch goal for this?

With something like this, the way it works is that you aren't losing potential tiers if they're not met, because this is a joint funding thing, we're SECURING certain things, while anything NOT secured can STILL happen if the publisher funds it, but it's an uncertainty.

Basically, the more we fund, the more confirmed features, we still might get other stuff, but it basically eases things on IGA's end and garuntees stuff for the game. Not getting the tier you want isn't the end of the world, because like MN9 showed, they might still be able to get that playable dlc character that looks like Zero and has a Beam Katana into the game in the end. It's like sending reinforcements, it gives the dev a higher chance of success to continue funding past this point. (who knows, we could end up with SIDEWAYS CASTLE by the end of this)

Publishers are much looser with their wallets if there's a comfort, this is how you win. This is how you get good games made at good budgets.

During the stream they gave an example of 'really bad voices'

I mean this is a fucking no brainer we got David Hayter now sky is the goddamn limit!
