Just listened to some of the OST. I'll probably be in the minority but I actually prefer it to the other games soundtracks if I'm being honest. Some really fucking catchy riffs in there and still hits hard enough.

So from those who have spent a couple hours with it, is it actually worth buying? I know I'll get it at some point soon and I fucking love Doom but am eager to hear impressions.
If you enjoyed Doom and DE, this also hits those notes.

Not sure about buying part, if you replay games, want to tweak difficulty settings etc, and want to get most out of it, am sure its worth full price. There is enough stuff here, hardcore fans would be super happy.

But if you just wanna run through the campaign once, maybe just gamepass it? Upto you really.

I actually have enjoyed very much the soundtrack from the trailers so far. I hope that the rest of OST is good. One recommendation that I have heard is to decrease a bit the sound of the game itself and leave the music sound at 100. I'll check this in the evening to verify

Getting 1440p/120 fps with framegen at Ultra settings on my 5070 ti. I can push it more but pretty happy with how it looks and plays. The gameplay itself is amazing, but Id should just focus on more badass levels than trying to be Halo with these cutscenes.

There is a YouTuber that wrote a listof recommendations to activate in the game and make the gameplay better,

Where is the OT btw?

also turn on auto run

I'm using DLAA with everything on Ultra, getting around 80fps on a 1440 UW monitor. 5070ti and a 14th gen i7.

Comparing the new DOOM game... Or anything really, to a Capstone game, damn that's savage. :goog_relieved:

But yeah I had a similar feel after watching a few videos, like the game looks cool but it isn't what I understand as DOOM at all.

Glad to see people are having fun tho, might still grab it later on.
Haha.

I got it on a deep discount so I'll update my feelings later this week.

My friend who scoffed a bit at me for insulting the gameplay I watched is now in the same camp. He is a big nuDoom fan and stated this felt like a giant step back from both games and doesn't even feel like a Doom game. His complaint is Doomguy is slow, the worlds are big (and his slowness shows) with not much going on, and the hook isn't very interesting. He turned it off after a level which is unlike him as he played through both original games in just a couple of days when they launched. I asked for his review, it was a 7/10 and said that's not good either given he felt the other ones were 11/10. The instant hook of the others made him want to consume until he was finished.

I watched someone play the first couple of levels (I couldn't care less about the story of a Doom game lol) and this just doesn't look like Doom at all. I think this was another game, some kind of Witchhaven reboot, and they decided to slap Doom on the title to make sure it sold.

For reference in case you're not familiar with 90s shooters:

They referenced the original quake during the development

Does anyone know if it's possible to sell the code you get by buying a Nvidia GPU i have one and am not really interested in playing this? Thanks

I did it once a long time ago but it's a real pain in the ass because it's tied to specific hardware. It's probably impossible to do now. Might as well just give the game a try.

Wild take. I think it's badass and makes doomguy feel like a UNIT again. Not sure if it beats 2016 but I'm enjoy this so much more than Eternal

Earlier games were mentally exhausting. I am happy about the change of direction..
I've seen Cohh playing on Nightmare, it still can be exhausting because every parry has to sit and you have to move constantly.
Anyways i love the game so plastic and vivid.

If I had one knock on the visuals of Eternal is was the glowy neon oversized icons. It looks like they cranked that up. I remember Hugo actually selling it as necessary because of the frantic pace required at higher levels. Like the F16 HUD they added which was fucking boss. Just watched a melee only miniboss fight and you could have told me it was a VR tutorial or something. I'm seeing plenty of corridors though. I don't know if reviewers were working with limited footage they were allowed to show or what. The little bit of a stream I watched tonight was more encouraging than any of the reviews. At least for the 20 minutes I watched. In a way it just looks like they took away enemy weaknesses. People could have always played Doom Eternal with bullet sponge enemies if you wanted. Kinda looks like Torchlight though.

Seems very low considering Doom Eternal ran at 4k/480hz on a stale tater tot. $1,000 GPU can't net 1440/120 on a game that no one accused of pushing the graphical envelope?

Except the part you cant play it how you want and are forced to use weapons and tactics against enemies that you dont want to engage with
Because no other game has ever been made punishing you for using certain weapons that aren't effective against certain enemies. Not to mention games where I don't like the look of the enemies so I'll just choose not to engage with them. These are the stupidest arguments about the game I've ever heard. That's the game, that is the dev's direction and it's a welcome change to bring some complexity. In this one, you are forced to use a shield and parry, I guess that's totally different though!? LMAO

Isn't default red and green?
Yes, but if you enable colorblind mode it turns green to blue, you can then adjust the color to whatever.

I didn't bother adjusting it though. Blue is perfect because they stick out against red projectiles. How people can see the difference between red and green blows my mind. They look identical.

Very interesting, I clearly see and differentiate between red and green so can't fathom what you see/feel. It's good they gave options for people like yourself to fix that issue.

Ray tracing be like that. Also is just a me thing, It can probably do 4k/60 dlss performance and 120 above with framegen but I like my gpu usage to not be 100% all the time. 1440p gives me headroom to try path tracing later.

I bought this on steam, it ran great, looks good, plays good, it was a lot of fun, but i asked for a refund, i didn't think it was worth the $146 that it cost here in Canada, and i don't really ever have game pass so when it goes on sale, i might revisit it.

Played a bit more. I prefer the combat in this one over eternal. Just lots of options. The only thing annoying me is the music, and the soft image quality on the pro. I feel like it could look better.

Really, because music is my most surprising element of the game that i like. I love the throbbing beat when not in battle.

Probably a personal preference. The beginning intro for me is good. I guess I just prefer the soundtrack to the other ones. So far…. I'm mid way level 5.

So far it feels like the tutorial level is all shield play. And is there a different composer for this DOOM than previous entries? I feel like the music isn't as good as previous games.

Different composer. The guy who did 2016 and Eternal was fired not long after Eternal dropped. The Ancient Gods DLCs music was done by two guys. The Dark Ages was done by Finishing Move Inc.

I just read about the Mick Gordon debacle. Dude got hosed. The music is weak in Dark Ages.
