I really want to play this and I love that they do something different for each game, but I may wait until this is cheaper and/or feature complete with dlc, patches etc.

Eternal is way too stressful. Its like 2016 with a mod for super skilled players who only play Doom and nothing else. For most players people Eternal was way too much, myself included. It has some great moments where you can also enjoy the game, but I was relieved when it was over.
I'm not sure it's fair to say 'most players'. A lot of the reviews are a bit disappointed that TDA is missing some of what made Eternal so good. I imagine there is a good 50/50 split between those that prefer either title.

For me personally, Eternal is fantastic and a better game than 2016. It reminded me of playing Doom or quake multiplayer back in the 90s, absolute fucking chaos that requires the player to be switched on all the time during combat.

Eternal not only made the whole game more chaotic by adding micromanagement of resources into the mix, but the hit reaction from enemies is vastly superior. In 2016 enemies jolted a bit when they were hit but it was unclear how damaged they were until the glory kill highlight showed. In Eternal, you could blow off chunks of flesh and visibly see how damaged enemies were which was both very satisfying from a gameplay perspective, but was also a clear indicator as to what enemies could be prioritised based on damage dealt.

I guess we find out when we play it ourselves. IMO it's not needed to set off the alarm right now. To me it looks good.
Maybe it has it's own rythm not like Eternal but something appealing also.
Considering hanging back and pot shotting mobs is a viable and advisable strategy, it's nothing like any Doom game. I'd say it's a bigger departure from the formula than Doom 3.

So i've bought Doom TDA Premium Upgrade on Gamepass but i don't see an install button. Do i have to install the standard edition and it unlocks in about 8 hours?
Edit: Gemini AI says yes i have to install Standard edition first.
Also Gemini says at the end "have fun slaying demons" lol

Doom sounds compelling enough for me tbh, couldn't care less about reviews
How do you define "Doom"? Just the box art and "Doom guy" being the main character? It must be if you're hyped for this on the basis of it being "Doom".

For me and many others, Doom is a claustrophobic hallway shooter with a big emphasis on soundtrack. I see none of this in Dark Ages. It's more akin to a Halo CE reimagining. Which is cool in its own way, but it's not Doom.

nah I am not a tryhard playing games for difficulty.
btw - does it increase just full game speed or speed of enemies?
Don't get it twisted. Higher difficulty and Master Levels in Eternal are not that kind of experience. I'm not a try hard either. I summon for most Souls bosses. I play many games on Easy. Doom Eternal is the good kind of difficult. The fair kind. Don't skip giving it a chance on those grounds. I very very rarely ever go above Normal in a game. Eternal is just special like that.

It looks cool and better than Eternal to me, even though I could have done without the mech and dragon.
I finished Eternal, but that game felt like a chore towards the end. It has nothing to do with "git gud", I just didn't have fun with it. And in the end, that's what games are all about.

Doom 2016 was glorious btw and I remember distinctly how many people were very negative about it up to it's release.

already looks much better than "eternal chore-fest" but not sure about that "match-the-greenies" thing, seems like its over-done.
hopefully this delivers.

Anyone paying the extra money to play this tonight?

Yep and the game kicks ass

I didn't find it stressful as much as I felt like I was playing Q3A in a PVE world. Doom isn't about jumping around.

Yeah, I enjoyed Eternal for what it was, but it was hard to not just think of Quake while playing it with the amount of jumping that was being done. I mean, I felt that way in 2016 as well, but something about Eternal just made it feel even more Quake-y.

I still loved 2016's multiplayer quite a bit too, even if it could've been better here and there. But I couldn't stop thinking about it feeling like Quake more than DOOM, lol.

It's a shame, because it really is hard to not make that association because you simply couldn't jump in DOOM 1 and 2. But you could in Quake 1 and above.

I should be receiving my collector's within the next few hours and then I'll start downloading ASAP. Definitely plan to jump into it tonight.

Really, REALLY curious about how I'll feel about it compared to Eternal.

Thats because Quake was an evolution of Doom. You could say Quake 1 was actually Doom 3. It was a more advanced FPS and a sequel to Doom 2 wouldn't come out until 10 years later while ID continued with Quake as their FPS franchise. If they continued with Doom instead, it would have gone through the same steps in gameplay.

Now its sort of reversed. What are their options with Quake? It its a single player game too, it'll be pretty much Doom without being called Doom. Wolfenstein sort of found its niche, for a while anyway. Machinegames made more of a story driven FPS from it. Maybe they can branch out to something RPG for Quake, similar to Deus Ex.

Watched a full review. This shit looks extremely mid. Open world and very little pressure. The Master Levels on Eternal were masterfully construced. Every room thoughtfully laid out. Every enemy had a purpose. This look like Doom Halo or some shit. There's a giant mode where you fight a big lumbering enemy and break stuff, just like we always asked for. VERY arcadey presentation. Multicolor enemy outlines, neon icons popping out everywhere. This is maybe the worst part for me. Looks like they hired the Tony Hawk Pro Skater HUD team or something. Weapons don't look lethal. Enemies very spongey.

Boys if they fucked this up because of the people who thought Eternal was too hard, we lost a great one. I had no idea that we had to be legit concerned about this one. Can't have shit in this hobby I guess.

Someone needs to put together a list of very GAF account who counter signaled Doom Eternal's game design. We've reached a point where we really need to make lists.
I would have to experience it for myself. None of those turds play on a decent difficulty

Just from a map size perspective, I can't see how it gets hectic unless they're unleashing a Serious Sam amount of enemies. I'm hopeful, I love 2016 and especially Eternal. This looks like a step backwards in terms of gameplay excitement even from 2016. It's like a really deep Doom mod for Elden Ring or something. Map and gameplay loop.

Yes Doom Eternal was like playing Quake deathmatch the whole time. I loved quake - and i played eternal for 70h etc… but Doom 2016 is a game i still love playing through, Eternal is not something i want to play again. Too stressful to replay and quite frankly too fast. Also the idea of certain weapons for certain enenmies felt anti doom to me

Hopeful dark ages is more like 2016 and og Doom (which is still the best imo)

Yeah, it was stressful, especially DLC 1 was really hard even on medium difficulty. That being said i finished Eternal base game on Ultra-Violence multiple times, idk if that is good or not, though.
Also Nvidia released DOOM TDA optimized drivers.

I can, especially at higher difficulties the enemies will come at you faster and in numbers. There is a good chance these press-based builds don't have the intensity of the final game.

Eternal was like Quake 3, but you had to be an Octopus.

yes - i would have liked Eternal way better if there was not so much cooldown abilities like grenades, punch.... and chainsaw ammo.. and glory kills for health... and specfic weapons for specific enemies... and multiple secondary actions

it was exhausting - even compared to a regular Quake 3 match

The whole game. Sadly even the voices on radios and such speed up lol. But the game is a blast that way.
hmmm so that's something for 2nd playthrough if anything.
I was hoping they just speed up the game logic

Early Access countdown with Hugo Martin is live currently

Whats going on guys, where's the hype it launches in about 1 1/2 hour?

Thank you id for giving us colorblind motherfuckers the option to change the color of parryable attacks. Red and green would have been no bueno.

Preloading base version on PSN. Since the money comes out as soon you preorder, they should offer some bonus. I miss the avatars and themes. They'd rather I spend an extra $20 or something around that for early access. Like if I can't enjoy this game beyond its launch week then there's some seriously wrong lol

"Doom is a cooridor shooter" is the new hotness in nay saying for Doom. I'm happy each game had it's own mechanics and I look forward to this one. We don't always need to shoot down corridors.

Not unlocked on Steam apparently
Only for people that activated a retail key. If you bought directly on steam you're fine.

But if you bought the CE direct from Bethesda? Or GMG? Or got a code with your RTX 5000 card?

Currently fucked. Apparently same shit happened with Indiana Jones too
