When is the last time a NeoGAF GOTY released in May or earlier?
People need to recognize how short our collective memories are.
I actually starting playing Witcher 2 on X360 recently, and it holds up pretty well for a last gen title. Already hooked on the story. I'm just as eager to board this hype train, but I want to gain some appreciation for the lore first, so I'm playing TW2 on Easy mode and moving quickly through itI never got around to playing the first two, and while I usually like to play this kind of series in order, I think I'll make an exception for this game. Hopefully the story is accessible to newcomers, at least after reading a couple lore/important events write ups.
Being able to continue to play it after completion seems necessary.
They intend on having expansions down the road after all.
this years goty race is going to be great, top contenders I think are as listed: Bloodborne, Witcher 3, MGSV, Batman Arkham Knight
Basically, there are a couple points in the story in which you'd need to complete certain side quests, but other than those, you can go back and do whatever you want after the credits roll. And there are some high level monsters / quests that seem to be intended for post-story play.
Not to mention Halo 5: Guardians and Rise of the Tomb Raider. This is shaping up to be a legendary year for good video gamesthis years goty race is going to be great, top contenders I think are as listed: Bloodborne, Witcher 3, MGSV, Batman Arkham Knight
There's another steel book?!Oh yeah we got this shipment in our Best Buys.
Steel book for The Witcher 3!!!
Ohhh. From your experience so far, did you come across any unique monsters that you encounter for the first time post-story? Or are they just higher level versions of ones you have already fought?

It's just so damn pretty. Quote to see more nice PS4 footage at night:
These youtube vids don't look anywhere near as bad as some of these screenshots.
I'm not sure they would be unique, but there are certainly a few monsters I've run across in different spots that I have yet to return to, and others in the bestiary that I haven't seen. I don't think there's anything hidden away until after you complete the story though. They're out there, you'd just be a fool to take them on.
The plot in the witcher games so far has been pretty vanilla for the most part. The intrigue comes from seeing the world the author has crafted come into life, alongside the characters being pretty great and seeing all the politics that drive the universe.
This game seems like the story will be ok, but that doesn't mean the characters won't be amazing. I mean some of the best movies had a straightforward plot but good execution with incredible characters.
If you haven't read the Witcher short novels, they are short (duh) and give you a good idea about Geralt and some of the main characters that will appear in these novels.
If you haven't played the games, watch some videos giving you the plot of the games and maybe background on the universe. I play these games for the plot but I read every single novel.
is there a polygon review out yet? i am kinda curious. they are usually the first to jump to these.
Maybe I'm just hyped for it by the ARG and the fun Beta a few months back. Really hoping it's a turning point for the franchise. I guess we'll see in 5 months!Halo 5 personally I feel wont be able to compete with the games I listed, Tomb Raider potentially yes because it would be this years uncharted if it turns out to be good, will wait for E3

VanOrd with the 10. Wish there was still a Gamespot podcast for him to talk about how it changed his perspective on the world.

I wonder if they will go the RDR route. They showed off that female Witcher after all.Being able to continue to play it after completion seems necessary.

Yeah, I think the guy who replied to me about that said it was up to around 90. Huge number, but I really hope that three quarters of those monsters aren't merely palette swaps.Speaking on monsters, how many of them would you say there are? Early on someone mentioned ~80, though that included variations.

If so I guess that my hope for "Geralt and Triss ride off into the sunset" ending is gone lol
watched the Gamespot,IGN and Gametrilers reviews. they were all playing the PS4 version. Any reason why?
I mean if you want to show case your game to the world wouldn't it make sense to show the game running on a pimped out pc?
I believe I saw a review that the game warps you back before the ending for post game play.

Imagine if Fallout 4 and Scalebound launched this year too.this years goty race is going to be great, top contenders I think are as listed: Bloodborne, Witcher 3, MGSV, Batman Arkham Knight
How is it here?
Does the game continue after the story, or does it reload pre-ending checkpoint?
And how would the game play if I left the main quest, or at least its finale, for last? After I explore and did everything?
It was the only version sent out, supposedly because the PC and Xbox versions are a patch behind or something like that.

And pillars of eternity and xenoblade x

PC Gamer posted a preview today based on the PS4 version
http://www.pcgamer.com/the-witcher-3-5-observations-from-the-full-game/
They indicate pretty good performance for the PS4: "only occasionally dipping below 30 frames per second, pre day one patch."
That's sound much better then what everyone else made it sound like.
