The Witcher 3 PS4 gameplay

that could be possible yes

Nice shot. Is there any AA though? Could have made it so much better!

Are you playing with patch applied? Did you notice any difference with frame rate?
P.S. Nice screenshots by the way.

got a update today,no idea what it does but i had some framedrops yesterday but not today like i said it could be just the change of area

Thanks for this. Yeah, animations have seemed a bit wooden to me in videos, definitely better than Dragon Age, but not up to the standard of FFXV.

What are your impressions on the visuals overall?

Visuals are very good indeed. Landscape in beautiful and cool. Great sense of adventure and real fantasy world. I very like that characters have different body types, because Skyrim and many other games feel just stupid with EVERYONE being a middle-aged fit man lol. And almost every other character feels unique enough. Only noname peasants and bandits look simillar, but then again they are in just to feel big and alive.

Writing is superb. I like almost everything that I hear and what I read, the VO is great as well - I'm playing English version btw.

I also beat both W1&2 so I know the series alright.

Yes, that seems in line with my sense from media...very coherent and believable environments. Awesome. Just five days and I will be joining you.

Exactly. People worrying about how this is going to look on PC, there is so much geometry in there, pristine IQ will make a massive difference. This will easily be the best looking open world game on PC.

Based on many many screenshots from the PS4 version out there the IQ is good. Its not 4K but it aint anywhere near the "is there any AA?". Game has pretty clear and good IQ. Sure certain lighting conditions could show AA issues, but that is definetely not the norm. I for one was surprised how clean the game is on PS4.

How does it compare to other Open World RPGs ? Like Skyrim, Fallout or DA:I ?

I'll be honest. I dislike DA:I a lot, as well as Skyrim. I feel that they are some of the most unimaginable and plain lazy AAA titles out there. I do like New Vegas though :)

As I said - movement feels clunky at times. ESPECIALLY if you are trying to be all crazy and go climbing huts and roofs all day everyday. They added animations for climbing stuff etc, but if feels so off at times. Like they added the feature a month ago and didn't have any time to make it feel not wierd.

Quests were superb so far, but there's a little problem I felt. Game literally overuses Witcher's Sense. Looking back I see that almost 8 out of 10 quests rely of you using it almost nonstop. Sometimes it just does not feel right to me =\ It makes me feel I'm a Predator switching vision modes constantly :)

As I said - the game is great - but I just nitpick everything that feels wrong to me presonally.

Great, I also dislike Skyrim and DA:I, both for different reasons and I like Fallout NV. We share the same taste, sir.

Yep environments feel super alive. I feels just like those cool Kingdome Come: Deliverence vlogs with almost real villages and stuff.

Btw there was stupid technical bug, I hope patch got rid of it. Basicly when I did the quest from trailers - when Wild Hunt burns the village - it felt super awkward.
They heavily use frost as a magic weapon and it looked like half-done.

First raiders appear. Second later frost auras pop in. And second later textures begin freezing. And that was a cutscene damn it. Felt like some 'under-constructuin for internal use only' shit lol.

I can see the criticism of features like this but i'd still prefer it over cookie crumb trail or a minimap indicator given the option. At least it ties in with game lore. That said the feature still annoyed me in the Batman franchise though.

That's what I feared when I saw the Witcher Sense the first time :sigh:

How is the weight system though, do you easily get over the carrying limit like in Witcher 2 or is it more balanced?

Kudos for the impressions.

Specifically about witcher senses, can you complete the quests without using it so much as the game seems to force it? Or is it pretty much necessary to use it constantly?

Thanks.

sometimes the game tells you to use witcher sense but i found the things without using it,so you are not forced to use it each time

So far I never had problems with it. One time I did some quests and exploring, ended up killing a band of deserters. Picked up like dozen of swords from their mutilated bodies. And I carry a shitton of crafting materials like I'm a merchant myself. And weight was something liek 28\60. It it really good in my opinion.

What I dislike - is that my swords break too easy in my opinion. For example there was a long story quest in ruins with a lot of shit going on. I went in with prestine outfit and almost halfway thru indicators poped up, saying both my swords were half-broken. I didn't have any upgrades on them and then again - I'm lvl 6 using lvl 1 swords - but it feels like a chore.

I disliked weak weapons in Dark Souls 2 and I really liked DS1 and Bloodborne. I literally repaired weapons like 5 times in a whole playthrough. But I saw some items for repairing durability on field, so there's that

I figured there are alot of PC-People in here too who might find that interesting:

Oh I do think it looks clean on PS4. It looks really impressive overall, but I think the added IQ will make a discernible difference with this type of game. So many details already packed in.

Usually I use it this way. I need to find some clues of what did happen in a room. I use senses once and every object of interest is marked red. And then I run around the room collecting clues.

But out in the open some quests force you to do it. OR I'm just stupid which is true too.

Yeah that's kind of why I asked, because AA issues didn't really stand out in any other shot. Seems like the high frequency detail in that shot exacerbated it

Going by the reviews I have read, you can complete many quests/ parts of quests without the use of the witcher sense, but there are some parts that demand that you use it to finish a quest.
I guess because you don´t know when you have to use it, you are forced to use it all the time...

not forced at all, found a lot of stuff without using it

It's been doing the rounds since the preload 2 days ago :)

Didn't see it anywhere, so yeah, sorry :) But intresting nontheless

the post about Config-Options from IGN-stream had me worried because it said "AA - On/Off"
but there is "MSAA level" in the config files so I'm good now :D

I guess it's only story quests with paranormal stuff. Like here's an illusionary wall - but you can tell only with your senses!

Great to hear about the carrying limit and the witcher sense not being forced on you, not so great hearing about the weapon duration though.
DS1 did it perfectly, my weapon never broke or was close being broken (except on few occasions) because I repaired it every time I had the chance instead of being forced to repair it.

Yay for proper multisampling anti-aliasing support in the PC version! :-D

I hope my GTX 980 can manage 1440p + MSAA... :-/

I literally just commented on it on the other thread. Sorry to burst your bubble twice :(

There is a provision for MSAA in the INI files, but there is also a comment next to it that the game doesn't support it currently.

I think Bloodborne destroys this game visually. It really goes to show how much visual consistency has to with the quality of the final image. W3 has this tech-demo look going on in many of the pics. The initial trailers look so good because they have some sort of unified lighting system there and the image is much more consistent.

yep. during that quest my steel sword broke to something like 20% and I had to use another one from my intentory instead. felt super wierd to me.

I have a feeling a lot of people will change their tune on this game visually when they get it in their hands. Witcher 2 looked utterly stunning, especially the consistency of high quality assets, this seems to be a step up from that and in a much bigger setting. The lighting looks pretty stunning overall as well. Just comming off playing Dragon Age and the difference between the two visually is pretty striking. DA has many similar elements but the environments are so much simpler and less convincing.

So you can actually find clues in a room for example by search around and not using witcher senses? A quest for example had the player investigate the room. There was a rug on the floor that when you use witcher senses Geralt mentions something and then an "X" opos up and you find out there is a small room beneath.

My question is, if I am thorough and investigate the room without witcher senses, will "X" pop up and enable me to find the secret room? Or are you required to use witcher senses to find it?
