Chili's spends $750k/year on egg wash so burger buns will look better on Instagram

I eat there every once in a while and hate the new POS tablets on the tables. They and presumably the previous customers are so nasty since the tablets are always covered with grimy food fingerprints. You're supposed let kids play games on them while you're waiting for your food and also to pay for your food. So gross. I'm going to start instagramming the dirty screens.

The reactions in this thread are hilarious. Chili's spends money to make their food look more attractive. Not a big deal.

The Fuddruckers bun is GOAT. I wonder how it looks on Instagram. No wait, I don't care.

They call my generation a whiny generation, but at least I don't throw a shit fit every time I learn a kid I don't know once photographed a shitty hamburger.

What a waste. Nobody takes pictures of food at Chili's because it is not a place worth bragging about going to.

"Such a long week at work ! :exhausted: Heading over to Chili's for some drinks and DELICIOUS burgers :D :D :D!!!" - Said nobody. Ever.

So basically you only post stuff to brag about it. Good to know.

I'm seeing a lot of "God help us" posts and other typical GAF overreactions ITT, but of all the things to be angry about in the world today, are you seriously pissed that people snap a pic of their meal at Chili's? Would it be equally unacceptable at chain restaurants like TGI Friday's, Applebees, Ruby Tuesday's, etc?

Because, you know, who gives a shit.

Pretty much.

It's a restaurant and people are taking pictures of food, who cares. And there's nothing wrong with egg wash on baked goods, more power to them. When I was a kid and had a small job at a bakery, egg wash was the shit.

It sure fucking beats misusing memes and #bae

oop. EXPOSE THEM.

Not a single one spelled it correctly.

Are you guys really complaining that a company is putting actual effort into making its food look nice?

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Chili's looks at this as an extension of marketing, making the food look good especially when people take photos and post them online.

I'm not about going somewhere and getting food that looks like trash like some of you. And if it looks good, you bet I'm going to take a photo of it and maybe even share it. Mostly via Snapchat.

What's the problem?

If your products are going to be circulating on social media, you're going to want them to look as good as possible.

.75 million isn't a lot of money for a nationwide chain.

came in to say this. 750,000 is literally a drop in the bucket considering how many stores they have, and burger buns they buy.

$750k a year is a small cost to such a huge chain. To put it in perspective I bet it would probably cost them more to put an extra pickle slice on every burger.

You're dealing with huge quantities of sales so of course the overall cost will seem large.

If they can spend a few cents per burger to increase the chance of customers willingly marketing for the chain, it's easily worth it.

These people get it.

Honestly it's not a big deal at all. Think about the millions the fast food spends to make their food look awesome in commercials and on the web. They are just making their food look good so others will buy from them.

It's the food picture taking that also for some odd reason angers certain people.

One common theory is that they believe taking a few seconds to take a picture of your food means you aren't taking the time to enjoy it. I.. just don't know why people get so angry at everything lol.

Yeah, that's just dumb. I was doing my 3 year anniversary dinner with my boyfriend last weekend at Level 257, which is the Pacman themed restaurant. We had the Godzilla Sushi, which was amazing. I had to take a pic of it, of course.

That Sushi looks super good. Reminds me of the fish tenders I got a while back. They were super tasty.

I'm mad at Chili's. They took the Chicken Fried Steak and Potato Skins off the menu. But.... they are doing their My Chili's Rewards here and i have enough points to eat free a few times.

One of my favorite foods I shared via social media, triple truffle fries and mac and cheese bacon dog from Frank 'n Dawgs during Lollapalooza last year.

It just Food selfies don't serve a purpose to me other than being hungry so I get pissed off seeing this and the other pic. As long as it doesn't look like trash.
