Chili's spends $750k/year on egg wash so burger buns will look better on Instagram

One of my favorite foods I shared via social media, triple truffle fries and mac and cheese bacon dog from Frank 'n Dawgs during Lollapalooza last year.

As Hamlet once said or something "A triple truffle fries and mac and cheese bacon dog by any other name tastes just as savoury".

It's the food picture taking that also for some odd reason angers certain people.

One common theory is that they believe taking a few seconds to take a picture of your food means you aren't taking the time to enjoy it. I.. just don't know why people get so angry at everything lol.

I hate it because it's comes off as so damn vapid. Then again, I don't like fashion or vanity photography or artisanal culture bullshit.

I smoked these the other day. Chili's doesn't have shit on my babyback ribs.

I too also think homemade food tastes better than that from a casual chain restaurant.

All I can say is lighten up. I don't share pictures with anyone but a couple close friends, often to actually show them what the food is like at a new spot we are checking out. I occasionally catch someone glaring at me, and honestly.. feel sorry for people that are angered by someone taking a few seconds to take a picture.

Huh, seeing how this thread is full of people posting pictures of their food and defending the practice I would have to say Chili's is looking pretty damn smart about now.

my generation disgusts me. spending all their free time advertising for some faceless corporation instead of doing something meaningful with their lives. ok take a picture of your chemical-laden meal while children starve in foreign countries. tweet how much you love microwaved meat while console exclusives go undefended on internet forums. whatever. so stupid.

I love when people think that huge mega-chain corporations are somehow unpopular. There's a vocal minority that likes to dump on places like this but the fact is they wouldn't have restaurants all over the country if it wasn't profitable, and it wouldn't be profitable if tons of people weren't eating there.

These places are around the same quality...the luxury of existing just well enough. I'm joking, and while they're not amazing places, they work.

Darn Social media. Glad my gen just missed this noise. We just used the phone to socialize. Oh well adapt or die.

I remember in college everyone always wanted to go to Chili's, but I thought they were shit. One time I got roped into going and figured I didn't want any of their shitty food so I ordered the safest thing I could get: A chocolate milkshake. It was literally the worst chocolate shake I've ever had in my life. I asked for some water and somehow it was chalky like they stirred dust into the water. I have never been back.

I really can't understand those who are outraged. As someone who really enjoys baking bread at home, I do the same thing with a lot of the stuff I bake. Bread, no matter how delicious, can look horribly dull and unappetizing if you don't give it a little love. Egg wash on challah or rubbing a stick of butter on plain loaf bread makes both of them look wonderful, and gets people excited about eating it.

So, I guess it can be seen as wasteful, but it really does help presentation overall.

Exactly how old are you? Cause im nearing 30 and I do this with no real problems. Is there a reason Gaf hates social media ( well other than Gaf i guess)

ok i actually lol'd at this

My girlfriend bartends at a Chilli's, and both her's and the one I've gone to in King of Prussia, PA, despite the service being questionable (outside her ofc), the food is usually of nice quality, not too bad. They serve warm tortilla chips with passable salsa, and I'm a big fan of their frozen margarita's.

Yeah it's not a 5 star but I don't see the hate.

Yeah it's pretty good if you ask me.

Went to a Chili's last night after finishing my last exam of the semester. Hadn't been to one in probably 5 years. Was blown away by the number of obese people I saw there. Not chubby but obese.

Well Instagram is massive. This doesn't surprise me- a lot of brands are taking to the gram and tumblr to market their products.

My horrible secr-

Oh wait, I don't give a shit. People want to see what I look like, I show them. I got that haircut for a job interview, also.

You're trying real hard to make this a thing. You don't need to be so defensive. Just don't care.

So much "stop liking what I don't like" in this thread.

I'll go to Applebee's late at night. I'll grab a 7oz house sirloin, probable meat glue and all and it's fine for what it does and what it costs.

I don't need to go to Morton's and get a $70 Filet Mignon every night. I don't need to cook a banquet every night at home. Sometimes I just want to be lazy, get a lousy steak, enjoy it for what it is and dip salty fries in the au jus left on the plate.

Chili's - "We spend money to improve the presentation and plating of our foods like every other restaurant. Somehow, we still get ridiculed for it on NeoGAF"

On NeoGAF, you get praise for being some sort of hipster-level establishment, or a trash tier piece of shit like Taco Bell or Jack in the Box that only broke college students go to.

Anything in the middle that serves average or merely decent food is "shit sux".

Insane. It sure sounds like a waste of money but if there are enough people taking pictures of food from Chili's of all places then I guess it helps to improve the look of the product.

That tweet about Chili's chips and salsa being "so good" angers me. Their salsa is the weakest shit ever and the chips suck as well. Anytime we do decide to eat at Chili's, I've made it a mission to write a comment on the Ziosk about how bad they are.
