M. Bison trailer for Street Fighter V

It gives that impression at first but for me it's like MK9 going to MKX.

They may share a similar art direction but SFV looks so much more lively and refined than SFIV especially in motion.
Pretty much. Where was all this complaining when MKX looked similar to MK9?

You need more than just your hard core to make something thrive, just ask Nintendo :)

Yes, non-hardcore street fighter fans are complaining because it doesn't look like there is enough new to justify a purchase... and you want your customers to be able to justify a purchase.

I just asked Nintendo, they couldn't answer me, though. Something about Amiibo money. Counting. I don't know, it was all too loud over the laughter. I did hear them say something about "We need more money bins."

Pretty much. Where was all this complaining when MKX looked similar to MK9?

It was there. Then they showed story trailers and casual fans gave zero fucks because that shit looked cool and it went on to be the best launch for the franchise. I expect similar things for SF5 once marketing truly begins.

I dunno, I really like the small changes to his design with the white hair and longer coat. Bison's always had an awesome design and this makes it feel a little more fresh without losing the charm it's always had. I think it's great.

How can you even communicate that this is a new game if showing pure gameplay is not enough? Chun Li's moveset looks completely different from her SF4 one, and we learned that from day one. I love MK but we learned about MKX via a CGI trailer with unfitting music :/

The teleporting stomp straight out of Omega..

There's a completely different fighting system here. You think costumes are what brings in the dosh?

What in the fuck am I reading?

There's a lot of auras and colors all around. SFIV had the brush strokes. I mean it's going to be a fireworks show at some point in time. It still looks good. The videos just show bars and super moves being used in combos. Vanilla default playing looks like SF. SF is known for each character having special moves. It's just been a bit conserved on the SF side versus the VS games side IMO. Mainline SF doesn't have the fast paced colors and lasers. I think it's mostly due to him being 3 different colors and bar being used? I don't mind it. I know he'll have to have a ground game at some point with no bar too, right?

Bison is an iconic character to this franchise..You don't just change the whole design for the sake of it, if it's for a character like Bison/Ryu. They changed up Charlie cuz he wasn't such a character. It's a really odd complaint to see for me.

New costumes can't cure ignorance. If they feel there's nothing new when characters have a shit ton of new moves then it's not the game's fault.
I 100% agree with you.

Dude I don't know anymore.

I'm definitely not looking forward to the roster discussion

How did that other character roster "wants" thread go? I didn't even go in there because the arguments that were probably going probably would have drove me away.

This thread reads like when a new Tekken game is announced.

I'm sure you guys all want Street Fighter to go the way of the tekken franchise. A bright future.

I expect more out of SFV than MKX, because SFV is using a 64-bit engine, while MKX is using a last-gen engine.

I think where we're going to see 64-bits really help potentially is in the netcode of all things- the increased RAM avaliable on next-gen consoles and PCs from 64-bit might help with rollback.

Personally, as a long time KOF fan who is used to characters changing heavily at times, I love how different the characters seem this time- it looks like Capcom's smart enough to realize SF has to move forward- that's the easy part though- the hard part is making those changes beneficial to the series- Capcom has failed at that plenty of times historically with SF.

So at the moment, we know:

4 characters
1 stage
Each character has Instinct mode
Game looks slower than SF4.

Really worried about this game. I do like that they swapped out Bison's moveset, though. Looks like he has lots of options.

SSB has basically no alt costumes, Mario has been rocking his outfit for 30 years. And that doesn't prevent the games from selling great :P Here's the thing - Ryu and Chun Li are emblematic, Ermac is not.

This thread has as much shitposting as Bison has new moves.

What do you think the majority of the SFV videos have been? There's a full match they did for an event if you wanna see some very early progress.

But I'm sure we'll get a lot more during E3.

You're right it's gameplay and I should have clarified that I meant live matches. We still haven't seen Charlie in a live match and he was fully revealed in February. It's not enough to just show clips of a new character against a dummy and then stay quiet for months.

I think they both look gorgeous in their own way. I can't wait to see more stages in SFV. The leaker, who has been right about everything else, says we can expect weather variation. That's going to look awesome (if true).

Why? The game isn't going to be out for almost a year. They're showing us the meat of the game, characters, and the rest of the information will come closer to release. Why should they blow their load this far from release?

Yeah, Capcom has been kinda mum on info about this game. We had the Gamerbee Vs Daigo and Mike Ross Vs Combofiend matches but that's it.

We need public test builds in E3 or something.

Just maybe.

Or why people defend that PC port of DoA 5:LR despite the stuff it's missing.

A good bit of that port defending is because PC folks are extremely thirsty for 3D on PC. I'm doing what I should have done with MKX, and waiting for netcode impressions before buying.

Shades of Fatal Fury Special. I love it.

They changed Scorpion and Subzero multiple times.

Like Scorpion is just a guy in the Mkx. Like he doesn't doesn't even go by scorpion

Oh no, Bison looks like Bison!

Who cares. His gameplay looks different and that's what's important.
And he doesn't even look that much like Bison lol. He's like a new character.

Uhh this is wrong. Even the alt costume you're talking about (which still goes by Scorpion) is an alt. It's not the one in the cover or in early previews.

"This thread reads like when a new Tekken game is announced."

You mean like when people complained incessantly about a brand new character?

When a new character pops up I'm sure we're going to get that. Especially since it's rumored to only be 16 characters, there will be wasted slot talk too

SSB also has only released four games in like 20 years. Street fighter released 5 games in the last 6 years

Old Bison means SF3 sequel confirmed? Hope so.

His moveset looks pretty sweet. This is kinda what I had hoped SF4 would do by changing up the movesets of the old characters. And he has Final Psycho Crusher, which I had hoped.

Anyway. Nice way to hope up more reveals for E3. I think not having another character tease is a good idea. Means people can look forward to a bunch of new characters getting shown.

"When a new character pops up I'm sure we're going to get that. Especially since it's rumored to only be 16 characters, there will be wasted slot talk too"

So what you're saying is that there's going to be complaints regardless of whether something is old (this character design) or new.

Could be neat if he were actually old. Wizened. Leaner. Updates are good. Where's Ryu's beard? Maybe Chun Li still rocks the buns but doesn't dress like a Circue du Soleil acrobat. Street Fighter 2 Ryu and Chun Li are icons. Every subsequent appearance is a riff on that iconic look. A little change would be good.

The details on their costumes have changed but their designs have remained constant. They've always looked like ninjas in almost every iteration sans a couple Sub Zero ones.

Just look at how Netherrealm didn't have the guts to make the Revenant forms of characters their default looks.

I am all for 3D fighting games on PC. I want them to, I just don't think KT's way of doing is done well. I hope the netcode is good though. Give me a reason to buy DoA 5 a third time.

Yeah, funny thing is, I captured all these from the in-game Charlie Nash trailer. Anyone that thinks this looks like an up-rezzed SF4 is delusional.

Again the people that said that probably only saw the announcement trailer at E3 and not the gameplay or exhibition matches or the screens you are posting. They don't know better and don't care to know better.

I'm kind of in the same boat- dat slowness. Still time for plenty of changes, but we'll see.

Showing how new character functions is "blowing their load"? I don't agree with that.

The movement looks so stiff and unlike previous games, I hope it's just a visual thing.

Also I can't get over patchwork Charlie, what a stupid design decision.
