Austin Walker joins Giant Bomb

Criticism is not "shitting" on him. I have always commended Patrick's attempts and have consistently found his work to be shallow and poorly-written. From what I have read of Austin's work, he clearly does not have those things in common with Patrick. I would suggest you never pick up a journal of literary criticism if you found what I have said to be "shitting" on Klepek, you wouldn't be able to handle it.

jesus, man, tone it down a bit

you're coming off as someone who missed the "how to respond to detractors gracefully" chapter in that journal you mentioned

Awesome! Been following him on Twitter for a while.

Listen to him on the Giant Beastcast, he's great.

I'd add his piece on Darkest Dungeon, my favourite article by him, too.

A Burnt Torch: Darkest Dungeon, Mental Health and Lovecraftian Horror

You came into this thread, that's not about Patrick in any way, pretty much saying that he doesn't have the qualification for the pieces he writes and that he talks out of his ass. That's truly great criticism and I'm sure Patrick can learn a lot from it.

Never understood comments like that. GB has always been GB. If a couple written articles and a new face are enough to "bring you back", what were you there for to begin with? (Not you, the dude on Twitter)

i drifted away for a bunch of reasons. No more whiskey related randomness with Tested, no more ryan or patrick, and vinny in NY isn't the same.

I love Dan, but between his mentality and losing Patrick, I can see why some people might have drifted away in the last six months.

Also hey congrats to Austin! Seems like a great guy and can't wait to see what he does on the site!
I can't imagine Patrick leaving really caused much of a fan exodus. That's not a shot at Patrick, just the fact that he was primarily a writer and fans of GB go to the site for videos.

patrick and vinny leaving combined with dan joining has gradually made me less interested in the podcast, which is most of what i get from GB. if the gbeast podcast is better (and i can hardly imagine it won't be) i'll probably drop the bombcast from my rotation.

it's much much better. funnier, more informative, more energetic, better discussion about games

Maybe this will get me interested in GBeast cast. Before the only reason I had to listen was Vinny.

Oh shit, this dudes favorite game last year was Fantasy Life, I'm already a fan.

I'd like to hear vinny, Alex, Austin, and dude who joined in the day 0 beastcast as a regular group. The day 0 podcast was awesome, the guys' personalities really clicked.

god damn this thread.

2 days ago Dan was wearing a military hat and futuristic glasses reading an old Nintendo power in front of a Razor Ramon poster but
GIANTBOMB IS SERIOUS BUSINESS

To be fair, sometimes Giant Bomb is serious business.

I mean, look at Mario Party Party.

Not a Nintendo Power, it was a Prima Strategy Guide for Mario Party 5, getting the hot strats prepaired for another win on Mario Party Party 5. Get it right!

I was never a fan of Alex, but I do think he works pretty great together with Vinny and I really enjoy the content they make together.

Yeah, I agree. Anyone who's been following GB for more than a year knows there have been obvious changes. No need for people to get so defensive anytime that's brought up. How people feel about those changes is a separate issue.

Holy crap this came out of nowhere, I guess I turned off the podcast too early lol.

Congrats to Walker! I love his taste in games so I'm curious to see if they'll have even more indie quick looks.

oh crap sorry, he really needs to step up to challenge Brads natural talent, especially now that Brad has evolved into Shadow Brad

Nope. That's the tiebreaker or victory lap for GBWest.

Anyone wondering about Austin's comedy chops should watch his stream friends stuff in YouTube. His face noir lp with Phil Kollar and Janine Hawkins is hilarious, and having his voice in GB, specifically about race issues in games will be great

Honestly I hoped I would too, but I checked out a few of the videos they did together and I'm still not a fan. I do appreciate that he has a different taste in games then a lot of the rest of the GB crew, so he brings value to the site, but I'm just not a fan.

Honestly it's probably because he tries to make jokes, but I rarely ever find him funny.

For my money the Kerbal quick look was the best of the year so far.

They have such a good dynamic in my opinion.

Maybe it's because I was a dumb kid when I'm first played it, but I genuinely liked Sonic Shuffle. The load times were unbearable, though.

Yeah I watched that one and wasn't that interested. But to be fair it's probably because:

A) I don't have a PC and can't play that game.
B) I've already seen the GB crew play plenty of Kerbal.

Just finished the podcast while reading some reviews/articles he has done and he fits in so well it's eery. They all gel so well on the podcast it has me super excited to see what video content they do and what he writes for the site. Also, we need some 3 hour beast cast.

Congrats to Mr. Walker.

Giant Bomb threads on GAF are weird these days. Always gotta put down something or someone on the site before you say anything good about it. Makes for some bizarre posts.
