I don't know shit about transgender anything so I hope this doesn't come off to offensive. Why does it always seem that people aren't trying to be a real women but the sexualized cultural stereotype of a woman? Maybe it's just only seeing media images of transgender people but they can't be a woman without large breast, long hair, and make up? It seems to be more about the culture caricature then personal identification.

... do cis women not do this?

Might be a douche for saying it but I will probably never refer him as a her. I don't have anything against transgenders, it's just something that's weird for me to say.

Don't be such a defeatist. For all you know saying her will feel normal to you in 6 months.

It takes getting used to for me as well; I just try to avoid gender naming conventions in general for now as I don't want to offend but also don't want to sound or fee awkward. Say them/they and try to get used to the idea in your own head.

I hope to some day be past my own weird issues with calling transgender females her/she; it's probably an insecurity thing honestly.

trans and cis women AIM FOR DIFERENT, but media ignore us =P

Ah. Well this exposure hopefully is the first step in breaking preconceived notions down. Unless the media continues to do the thing where they only shed light on something if someone famous is involved.

Dude they knew what they were saying was stupId. You don't preface stuff with I might be ignoant and maybe I don't know shit and then proceed to say it anyway.

I'm sorry but flat out saying we are real women. That we're just caricatures. It's not a question. It is an insult. I mean all I actually did was use their own words against them and confirm to them that yes your are ignorant and yes yoy don't know shit and ask them for their definition of what a real woman is. But no clearly I'm the real intolerant one here.

Again literally not my job to be nice to people who dehumanize trans people. Just asking questions is not an excuse.

There was like a million different ways to say hey why do teans woman often have long hair and makeup (hey look I legit just did it) without accusing them of being fake woman, cultural caricatures and having n9 personal identities.

Not intolerant, just needlessly agressive, people won't learn and evolve if you spit poison at them for not knowing, and your attitude was highlighted by the post before yours.

Yes, it sucks that people say things that come off wrong due to their ignorance, they don't know better, but you do and could also have handled it better, and the post before yours is an example, and im not saying you should be nice to them either, but being informative instead of just dishing insults and insults alone is better for everyone involved.

got a little choked up when she mentioned how Bruce had to live a lie every day, but Caitlyn has no secrets or lies - she's free.

good for her, it's awfully brave to do this so publicly.

I just wish people wouldnt call for pitch forks for having opinions like that.No one grows from that.

I'll be helpful and not offended :-)

Where are you getting your information from? There are loads of trans people out there who just look normal and go about their business. You've probably never even noticed them.

If you're looking at "adult" websites, salacious news stories or celebrity photo shoots, of course it's going to be a bit skewed.

I'm a trans woman and I'm not sure I'm a caricature of anything. I won't go into what I wear on a daily basis or my bra size, but I'm a lawyer at a large firm in a stable relationship and I pass so I only disclose my history to friends I can trust. It's usually so tiring though, because I get loads of questions which seem to challenge me to justify my very existence.

Like I said up at the start of the thread, i hope this is just a learning process for people and in 20 years or so, trans anything is where lesbian and gay perception is now.

Thanks for your reply. Like I said I think it has a lot to do with only seeing images of people trying to be seen. I think profiles of more normal people would help a lot but I can totally understand why people wouldn't do this given our societies behavior. I believe gay and lesbian rights really didn't catch on until people started to know all types of gay people and not just think of the butch lesbian and flamboyant gay male stereotypes.

You're right you don't know shit and that was offensive.

What is a real woman?

real woman aren't allowed to try and look sexy?

Real women are all types of women but transgender women in the media are always over glamorized(in style) large breasted women. To me it's like they couldn't feel feminine with small boobs and short hair. I agree that wasn't the case in the interview Jenner did but I didn't see it.

Ha! Yeah. I would be surprised.

I'll be your trans AMA while I'm in the mood. Why can't you accept my gender identity?

I respect you as a fellow human being and as an equal. Not superior or inferior to me in any way. However this is a delicate subject that is often bait, so I'd rather not post in the thread anymore (Yaaaaay! =D )

I apologize if my comments insulted anyone. It's not my intention. PM's are fine, but I won't risk my account here.

As a final comment, I completely respect Jenner's transition and I actually applaud Jenner for all the bravery. I wish Caitlyn the absolute best.

Most women in the media are over glamorized.

How does the actual genitalia surgery work? I can kind of understand the male genitalia because it's mostly external but how do they deal with removing/adding the female genitalia being how it is. I don't really know much about how it works.

Yet you won't respect their wishes to be called a certain pronoun? That is not equal.

I'm assuming you are male, would you be totally okay with someone constantly calling you "she"?

That's a shame. I'd rather discuss it with you respectfully and try and understand what's stopping you from accepting trans people as their "true" / "acquired" / "new" / "whatever" gender. I'm not trying to bait you.

I don't believe that Jenner did that part or is going to have that specific surgery in the future. At least that's what I gathered from the interview.

She looks stunning
what happened to the name bridget though? I liked that

You don't respect her at all and since making that clear you refuse to even attempt to clarify your position like a coward.

Just read a comment on Facebook calling her a "hybrid mut"... Some people are atrocious.

Some people have so little to think about or contribute that they can't do anything but be awful. I just like to think that their lives are hell so this is how they respond to people who are actually happy.

It's a joke, don't get so offended. Good for her that she has come out.

Except that you're misusing the joke, because the issue going on on this thread lacks the context from the movie.

The scene from the movie is funny only because Austin discovered an undercover spy mascarading as a woman in a prior scene and in that clip he mistakenly assaults a woman who looked like the disguise from the previous scene.

Posting the clip like that it's clear you're just mocking Jenner.

You won't jeopardize your account with your hate speech? That's sweet.

You're not considering them to be an equal if you refuse to accept their identity and treat them with respect by using their actual identity. So no, it's not bait you're just a hateful person.

You definitely get it, you're just baiting.

I got it when I was thinking it was just an insult.... now that it is a joke I don't see how saying that she is anything on that video can be the punchline of a joke because it makes no sense

Wow youre kinda creepy

Despite the crude and dehumanizing statement, I actually like the sentiment behind it. IE - they don't care what the person was born as, they're happy with what they are currently.

I respect the attitude behind it, even if it came through as completely crass and disgusting.

Generally, if you do not have a compliment or affirmation to offer someone in light of significantly life change, keep your mouth shut.

Don't know how people haven't learned yet to exercise tact.
