[RUMOR] Dark Souls 3 to be announced at E3 ( with Miyazaki directing )

Personally I dont want a Dark Souls III. I don't want a Bloodborne 2 either. I've experienced those worlds already and would like a fresher world to explore and discover.

if it's ready to be announced at this point.

People keep saying this, and I just don't understand it.

What does "ready to be announced" even mean in the context of video games and E3 announcements that routinely fluctuate between full CGI trailer, to titlecard, to a logo splatered with like 20 other games in one big list, to a gameplay trailer, to being casually mentioned in an interview, to all of the above.

The game could have literally started production yesterday and they could announce it at e3. There's no such thing as "ready to be announced" in this industry.

I'll be on board with Dark Souls 3 if Miyazaki is directing. But I'd still be a bit hesitant since Dark Souls 2 pretty strongly convinced me that the Dark Souls world had been tapped out.

I'd be on board too, but I kinda feel like the Dark Souls 2 world isn't proper Dark Souls, and this will be the true Dark Souls sequel. There's still a LOT of potential there.

Dark Souls 2 just constantly feels "off" to me. It doesn't even feel like I'm in the same world.

I wouldn't be able to handle this kind of announcement at e3; there are already too many games I'm looking forward to seeing, anything more risks overloading my hype receptors.

It would make the new ending that they patched in very irrelevant if the next Dark Souls isn't a sequel to it that finally finishes the series properly.

The new ending
pretty much closes the story IMO so I dunno how they'll continue with the curse.

Ideally, Dark Souls 3 would be something completely new, keep the 4 Lord Souls -> 1 First Flame, and that's it.

If they should decide to keep it in the DrkS 1 "storyline", how about we get to see the world when the Dragons were still alive, the time when Gwynn started the war? I think that could be nice.

Hope it's -at least- an early 2017 title. Closer than that, would imply that the Dev(s) have been burning hours like there is no tomorrow all this time, considering the 3 DLCs and "Scholar of the First Sin" alone.

These things need proper planning, and polishing. Also, there is an inherent risk of alienating the players with releases so close. I mean, I love my DS, but I want the series to start trying different imagery, and storyline at least.

I would much rather see him do this than a sequel to Bloodborne. As much as I enjoyed Bloodborne it's really lacking in variety compared to Souls. I never even finished a NG+ run because I got bored of the weapons.

Not for me. It seems to imply that there is a way to break from the curse and to become immortal. What you do with that power is to be determined in the next game I'm assuming. If there isn't a sequel, that new ending isn't much different than beating Nashandra and sitting on the throne.

Also, I feel a prequel would be really bad as the whole point of Souls game is to piece together the history and the lore using item descriptions and rumours. To have a game go through all the story that you piece together in the next game trivialises all the piecing together everyone done when Dark Souls came out. Miyazaki loves the fact that certain things are vague, to take that away is to undo one of the major reasons why we love the Souls games.

Maybe Miyazaki isn't directing Bloodborne DLC after all?

Dragon's Dogma expansion was by a different director than the vanilla game, and it was awesome.

Well, I guess it depends on who the director is. In the case of Dragon's Dogma, I believe both the producer and the director were promoted from within the same development team. The producer for Dark Arisen was the assistant producer of Dragon's Dogma, and the director for Dark Arisen was the lead game designer for Dragon's Dogma. So it's not as big a change. The same could happen for Bloodborne, sure. But in the case of Dark Souls 2, the people who replaced Miyazaki never worked on Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. They previously worked on collaborations between From Software and Bandai Namco Games for games like Another Century's Episode and Gundam Unicorn.

They're going to hold an hour long presentation behind close doors for an unannounced game. I imagine they're going to need at least a substantial demo to showcase.

FROM Software haven't really announced a Souls game before being about 50% into the development of the title. Announcing a game that would most likely be set for release in late 2017 (if Miya truly is directing it) that they have barely started working on just isn't like them.

I wouldn't be surprised if it its announced and it's revealed that the DaS2 team/directors worked on it after finishing the DaS2 DLC tho.

Are some of you really surprised that From Software, of all studios, are milking the Souls formula? Really???

- Kings Field (1994, 1995, 1996, 2001)

- Another Century Episode (2006, 2007, 2010, 2011)

- Armored Core (15 games between 1996 - 2013)

And more and more... and some people say that Level-5 burns series to the ground LOL

I don't believe this, but I would be happy to be proven wrong. Would rather he worked on a new idea instead of another Souls game though.

i don't get it?
Why does Capcom have anything to do with From?

It was an example that a game doesnt need its DLC to be directed by the same original director for that DLC to be amazing. Mainly because of the fears of Bloodborne DLC not being by Miyazaki.

Well what I did understand is that the only way to escape from the curse is become what Aldia is, so mainly there's no escape from the curse unless you give up to your body and soul. I think Aldia himself says something like that?

Nashandra ending felt more like keep going with relinking the fire, without any real closure.

Yep, this.

I've never been fully able to put my finger on what it was, but something about Dark Souls 2 always felt really off to me and made it feel inferior to Demons and DS1. It almost felt like a Devil May Cry 1 to Devil May Cry 2 kind of jump, except Dark Souls 2 isn't nearly as bad as DMC2 obviously. If Miyazaki is on board for DS3 I'll be a lot more interested.

Ultimately though, I'd prefer From makes either a Bloodborne sequel, another new Souls-like, or a new Armored Core

The awesome thing is that I'm not even close to burning out on it. I fucking adore the series.

Yeah, at this point I'd like to see an Armored core out of From before I see another Souls. I love souls, and that's exactly why I don't want to see it become the next Call of Duty.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Anything Miyazaki is gaming nirvana, but as others have said: logistically ridiculous, franchise fatigue, etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: DS2 being a sequel sticks out like a sore, shitty thumb, both because of the name and what it is as a game. Demon's, Dark and Bloodborne would've been such a perfect suite of phenomenal gaming; now it's marred. MARRED!

I would much rather see him do this than a sequel to Bloodborne. As much as I enjoyed Bloodborne it's really lacking in variety compared to Souls. I never even finished a NG+ run because I got bored of the weapons.

I'd hate to see them go back to simple weapons with tiny movesets. More weapons is fine by me, but variety isn't the problem, Bloodborne has as much weapon variety as the other games, but less weapons overall, in exchange for a moveset that is up to three times as deep as any weapon in the previous games.

Man, I enjoyed DS2 so much more than Bloodborne. Guess I'm just a mutant.

Miyazaki at the helm couldn't possibly be a bad thing though. Of course, it doesn't matter anyway, I'll play anything they put out.

I would prefer that they leave Dark Souls and Bloodborne alone and make a Resident Evil (1-2-3) style game with souls mechanics.

After seeing Bloodborne atmosphere can't wait to see Resident Evil Remake scenarios in this gen. It will be delicious!

Exactly. What people complain about is less npcs and less magic and less clothing.More of all of that is what people wanted in BB.

Don't forget about all the other random games they made. Including helping other studios in making them. Also, Shadow Tower games. They have a variety of games on their resume.

Can't believe how many people in this thread are taking this at face value yet laughed in the face of the Silent Hills rumour.

There is literally no evidence, the way they describe the rumour is that someone sent them an email with the subject like saying "Upcoming games" and the body said "Dark Souls 3 - made by Miyazaki".

So he literally directed two different games at once with completely different art direction/lore/story/combat and enemies?

Miyazaki's a genius but I'm not buying that at all.

Miyazaki directing doesn't mean it's coming out that soon.
