I would hope that by now you've heard of the PC Gaming Show. It's the first-ever E3 show dedicated to the power and glory that is the PC, and we've got a great lineup of guests coming to the party, including, among many others, Blizzard, Bohemia, Paradox, Square Enix, CCP, Fullbright, and AMD. Today the list grew again, as Microsoft announced that it's hopped on board as both a sponsor and a participant.

"For us, the PC Gaming Show is the ideal place to speak directly to PC gamers, and it’s a great time to talk about Windows 10 - the best operating system we've ever created for gamers on PCs,” Microsoft's Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said. “With Windows 10, we’re bringing the best of Xbox with the best of Windows gaming, including Xbox Live and the new Xbox app, Game DVR for nearly every game, and DirectX 12 for better gaming graphics and performance.”

That tells me two things. Either there'll be little-to-no PC gaming stuff at the Microsoft presser or there will be, but other things to show too.

INTRIGUE.

Ugh... I can't believe Microsoft would put in the effort to make my hardware perform better....

What's there to be positive about besides dx12?

So you can see the future?

An announcement on the Xbox One controller dongle would be pretty nice.

We might also get a game reveal for the rumored RTS title.

Expect some DX12 rhetoric and maybe a Fable Legends trailer. Probably a mention of XBox features in Windows 10. I doubt there will be anything we haven't heard half a dozen times before.

But Phil Spencer isn't the head of Microsoft ... or even Windows.

He is the head of the Xbox division.

In theory (emphasis on theory), the only reason he would be in a PC centric presser would be to announce more Xbox studios Games coming to PC, or more inter-operability, which I'm all for in both cases.

MS have been upping their PC support in the last 18 months/2 years, only going to do more. Probably announce some of the XB1 games they have at their conference for the show, perhaps some other ports too

Xbox covers their console, PC and mobile plans, Head of Xbox -> Head of Windows gaming. They want their new store to sell games, makes sense he is there to try and appeal to that audience

I swear.. if Phil comes on stage and says this,

"Hello audience, we are here to announce Halo 3 Custom Edition, exclusive to Windows 10 with DirectX12 enhancements!! We know how badly you all have been waiting for this one!"

Xbox will be on all Windows 10 devices and PC gaming development is going to be under Xbox and in turn Phil Spencer.

Notice, it isn't sponsored by Microsoft, but instead by Xbox....

Xbox covers Microsoft gaming on all devices now.

Hopefully it's more than just a bit of fluff about streaming your Xbox to your PC. I get that when it comes to their own stuff but if they're at a PC gaming show they need to be a little more focused.

It doesn't sound like they're bringing games reading that quote.

He did an interview on why they are part of the show

Will bringing Xbox to Windows 10 see you bring Xbox One exclusive deals to PC as well?
Spencer: Our vision is to unify platforms so gamers can play the games they want on any Windows 10 device – PC, Xbox One or otherwise. That can come in the form of game streaming to a Windows 10 PC from Xbox One or simultaneously shipping games on both platforms. For developers, Windows 10 brings one core operating system, one application platform, one gaming social network, one store, and one ingestion path across more than one billion devices. Getting the platform and service ready and shipped are our first priorities. You’ll hear more about specific game titles and partnerships as we move forward.

Are we going to see original, PC-exclusive games from Microsoft Studios after Fable Legends?
Spencer: The charter of Microsoft Studios is to develop games that showcase the best of every Windows device. You can absolutely count on us to invest in games for the PC. While we want to break down the walls between platforms, we also know that certain games are optimized for certain devices.

One of those walls I think a lot of PC gamers would like to see broken down is Halo. Would you rule out the possibility of Halo, Xbox’s biggest franchise, returning to PC?
Spencer: Halo already has a long history on PC. “Halo: Combat Evolved” shipped on the original Xbox and Windows 98, and “Halo 2” came to PC after the Xbox 360 version. And for Windows 8 we shipped “Halo: Spartan Assault” and then just recently “Halo: Spartan Strike.” There's definitely a legacy there. So no, we wouldn’t rule out more Halo coming to the PC.

Why so negative?

Probably because for the last like 10 years Microsoft hasn't given the slightest to PC gaming? I think it's fair to be negative at that point.
It's like your dad not being around for 10 years but continuing to make promises, at some point it's okay to call him a twat.

Though I guess one can argue that MS is being earnest now and will bring it.

pretty much this, they say "we care blabla bla bla windows 10 for gaming blablabla record that blablabla windows 10 on all microsoft platforms blablabla xbox on windows 10 blablabla here is a trailer of fable"

i always hope for a little tease of the pc port of killer instinct.. BUT after 2 (windows 10 keynote and gdc conference) times i just hope for the best..

NEW AGE OF EMPIRES OR BUST, PHIL.

Seriously, if Decisive Games new game would be a proper, retail Age of Empires game, I would be eternalyl grateful to MS...

this is all just a ruse so he can do his " totes kewl indie video game tshirt under his jacket" thing to announce his true gamer cred to everyone

double the shirts double the legitimacy

It really does seem MS is spending a lot more time / energy devoted to PC gaming lately. I wont be surprised if within the next 5 years Xbox moves to more a Steam like service. It would certainly make sense with MS traditional focus on software and services, avoid having to abandon / sell the brand if they elected to move off of hardware, and open the door to trying to capitalize a market without another massive hardware investment.
