Fallout 4 Speculation Thread - Graphic talk elsewhere please.

Fenway maybe? Would they be allowed to use the name of the stadium?

Would be surprised if Fenway wasn't in there somewhere, considering it is one of the more recognizable landmarks in Boston. Even if they don't refer to it by name, I'd be reasonably certain the likeness would be unmistakable.

Trying to think of what other landmarks would likely be present. Already seen what appears to be the USS Constitution, so Boston Harbor is likely. Would also suspect Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, possibly a couple of the museums (Boston Aquarium, Fine Arts, Science), maybe even the Garden. That would be pretty sweet, overrun with mutants and such.

Oh thank god, that's one fear down. A rumor a few weeks back made me think that they would only have a male character avaliable for the story missions. But if that was Troy Baker in the trailer, they have to have Laura Bailey, it's like a package deal.

Laura Bailey technically did the female player "voice" (grunts/etc) in Fallout 3.

Fenway is in the trailer.

So I actually know very little about Fallout's lore and history. Guess I nedd to hit the wiki

Also,I havent really played New Vegas. So I have something to hold me over until FO4

We're expecting this Q4 2016 right?

Boston is confirm as the setting, correct? If so, is it safe to say that there will be towns surrounding Boston? I would assume yes but I've only played New Vegas so I'm not sure how the setting was in Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 had one large town and a few settlements around Washington but none of them were based on towns. Some were based in historic buildings.

Fallout New Vegas was similar in the sense that Vegas, or what was left of it, was the town and the other settlements were just that, settlements. Some had "iconic" or different things that set them apart like a giant T. Rex, or in a small oasis in the middle of the mountains but that's about it.

That isn't to say it's impossible for Fallout 4 to have towns but I wouldn't consider it very likely. At most I'd expect a couple of large cities or settlements.

Aha, missed that, good catch.

What we're hoping for, and what we're expecting are two dramatically different things. I would hope sooner than Q4 2016 since it's been a few years since New Vegas and they're using the same engine, but who knows what sort of development was actually put into it.

Why from these two images, the camera angle it shows me that you could play both of the characters, it would let you play as Dogmeat anytime you want and switch back to Vault Dweller a new feature brought in the game like The Last of Us. Since they show flashbacks, the kid is part of a sidequest and it will let you play him for short moments like in Tranquility Lane, to tell and show the story before the events of the fallout.

And from this image, if you look at the middle of it, is it me or I can see a feral woman with a torn light blue dress. Is the 4th in the image. Now, that's new.

Regarding Fallout Lore, check out this video series https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7pGJQV-jlzD17YNNbt103xp0PkkUCoPU

I would not be surprised if this game is available by the end of the year, as the talk is its been in development for quite sometime. But I can see an early 2016 release being more likely. What I am trying to say is I have no idea :)

Kinda hope that the dog being central in the trailer doesn't mean that they up the importance of companions. I mean, I want better companions than Fallout 3 and as good as NV, but I don't want to be glued at the hip to them from a story and game-play perspective.

Also really hope that the PC isn't voiced.

Yeah, it looked like Beacon Hill and old Ironsides.

They did three after I moved away from DC, and now they're doing 4 while I'm in Boston. Hot damn am I excited for this. T-stops all over the place tho, I bet.

Wouldn't it be Boston circa 1950 something? City changed a bit. No doubt it did after the fallout. Some landmarks will still be there for sure. Appaantley MIT has something important to do in fallout lore from what I remember of the early leaks/speculation it was gonna be in Boston.

Wouldn't be surprised if the forts in the harbor are being used in game.

The bombs fell in 2077 but the transistor was never invented (well until like 5 years before the War) so neither were microchips. So it's a retrofuturistic take on Boston.

They miniaturized nuclear reactors but not computers until the invention of the pip-boy right before the War due to the new transistors.

The Cold War never ended and America became an autocracy.

Not quite. Fallout timeline diverges from ours in the 1950's, but the bombs only dropped in 2077. Hence all the fancy nuclear tech. We've seen a screenshot taking place in a square that was demolished in the sixties, but it stuck around in the Fallout universe.

MIT is now called The Institute, if I'm not mistaken. A character in Fallout 3 was from there. Lots of science-stuff. Androids, too.

I would be fine with the way it's always been. I would love more places like Primm and Novac.

My dream for this is that you openly get to choose between working for the Railroad or The Institute and that it vastly modifies the story based on your allegiance. That was my E3 prediction and I'm sticking to it!

With proximity to the area and some of the other things we have seen, I'd love to be able to connect with some of the Capital Wasteland factions as well throughout the story.

Well Scollay Square is shown in one of the shots, which was torn down and replaced by Government Center in 1962. So its definitely working with an alternate timeline Boston

You guys think it'll have survival mechanics ala Hardcore Mode from New Vegas?

Seeing as it actually gives food and drink a purpose

Then by that margin, I'm fairly certain that the Enclave and BoS will be in the game, but will be in the background like in New Vegas.

IIRC there was a hardcore mode toggle in fallout 3, the game just never pointed it out to you like NV.

Given the focus on powersuits, I find this highly unlikely.

the entire series always is. The world got stuck in 1950s culture and remained that way for 70 years or so and was then bombed to shit.

Honestly they need to take EVERYTHING from New Vegas and improve where needed. They also need to look at JESawyer's mod for how to improve hardcore mode.

Really? I had to use mods to get that in Fallout 3...

Yes, agreed, I used that mod as well, improved it significantly

The T-45 must've been the East Coast had most of. And it looks like they redesigned it a bit to not look as skinny as it did in F03 and New Vegas.

Or you're just reading too much into it and it's just a before/after shot.

Huh, you're right. Coulda sworn I saw the option back when i was playing Fallout 3 but didn't care about it at the time. But yeah, I hope they have hardcore mode. It was a blast in NV.

It's a staple of the Fallout franchise, of course it's returning.

It might have more elegance or be implemented differently but it's just as much a staple now as Nuka-Cola.

I figured as much, I would have been shocked if it left as well. I'm only asking as more info is slowing rolling in just wanted to see if it was mentioned. It's one of the best parts of the Fallout series.

Even if it's released shortly after E3, the wait is going to kill me. I thought the trailer looked fantastic and I really hope to see more at E3.

I wonder how large the map will be this time. So many games now are putting out truly massive game worlds. It'll be interesting to see if they will try to capture not just the greater Boston area but more so solid chunk of Mass in general. Sort of like how the original FO and FO2 captured a large part of the west coast. Or if they'll stick to the very large, but not mammoth sized maps that we had in FO3/NV/Skryim.

I wonder if the game area will stretch to the Quabbin Reservoir.

Optimistic and like what I see so far. Would welcome some new factions other than Enclave, BoS and Super Mutants but will see what E3 brings.

I REALLY love the colours they got going on in the trailer. Way better than both 3 and NV. Mods were created for both those games to show colour like this.

Location wise, it looks about as ruined as the Capital Wasteland, but with the tone of the Mojave.

Edit: Also is that the most city like area we've seen in Fallout before?

If the game is structured like NV - I think New Hampshire could be an epic place for the Brotherhood of Steel to be based.

I also am hoping for some sort of New Pilgrim culture based in the ruins of Plymouth Plantation.
