Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

So excited. I hope it feels more like Fallout 3 and not NV story and setting wise. Yeah, NV was the "better game" from a mechanics and story perspective, but FO3 was the superior game for me.
Why? If it was inferior in mechanics and story what did you like better about it?

Also the complaints aren't just about graphics guys. The fact that it looks last gen has gameplay implications too. Here's hoping it's crazy under the hood.

Super excited for Generic Bethesda Title on XBox One.

Would UE4 be able to handle the volume found in the Bethesda style open world game? I'm sure UE4 would look great, but I'm wondering if it would be able to keep track of data (I:E, all the enemies, objects, and choices made) that Gamebryo can. Even though it gets a lot of flack, it seems like that's the only real engine that can handle the volume of data found in titles like Skyrim and Fallout.

You seriously think a decade old engine somehow is able to surpass UE4 in how it tracks data? Seriously? It's because Bethesda has all the people and all the documentation on how to make games using Gamebryo. That is literally the reason.

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time.
It certainly looks a generation ahead of 3/NV. The lighting & shadows make a huge difference.

I'm also happy with the more colorful art direction. Looking forward to seeing more at E3.

Some of you guys need to be more open minded when it comes to artstyles and graphics in videogames. This trailer IMO was soooo much better than other videogame trailers out there showcasing splendid and realistic graphics. Hope by the time Fallout 4 comes out I already had a PS4 to play it. Looks amazing!

Non-bullshit trailer has me more interested in the game than I expected to be. Well played.

Will still be holding off to let the early adopters figure out if it's a buggy mess on consoles, but I'll be paying attention to this now where previously I was waiting for the 'Obsidian' key word.

If they get rid of some of the jank in the game, improve the shooting mechanics, and introduce some new elements with a great story, then I have the Fallout 4 I've been imagining since I finished 3.

I'm not sure that is true, also AFAIK after Oblivion, Bethesda wasn't using vanilla Gamebryo. The gameplay engine (which does handle the tracking of objects and systems) has been completely custom.

I saw color!!!!!!

What I care about most is environment detail. Hopefully that extra power means less copy and paste in order to run. I like what I saw in those cities.

I'm excited. People in this thread need to google some fallout 3 screenshots and wise the fuck up.

People talking like Bethesda is the small underdog, compared to the likes of CDProject Red.
And the problems with their games don't stop at the graphics, unfortunately, but that's the only thing you can talk about, with a trailer like this.

While I will play this and am looking forward to it, did it have to be announced while I'm playing Witcher 3?

I'm not starving for a western style RPG nearly as much now and I doubt Bethesda, Obsidian, Newgrounds, etc will make anything close to as enjoyable in the next few year, much more so right now before the season pass content has even released.

People seriously upset about the visuals in an obviously massive Fallout game? I personally couldnt care less. Its a new Fallout from the studio that does the best open world games and character interactions in the industry, in my opinion.. Ive been waiting for this since NV. Sign me the fuck up.

After seeing some of the online fervor over the witcher 3 and actually playing it myself I don't take any of these kneejerk graphics obsessed folks seriously any more. Maybe they can get the Fallout 4 they wanted and it can take place in the stock room of a supermarket that we'll find in our expansive open world game. They can take zoomed in screenshots of textures while we make mutants explode with our dog friend in a new wasteland.

Lmao no. There is no engine that can do what Gamebryo can do. The same can be said for most engines. I'm not talking about how janky or pretty it is. I'm talking about what it accomplishes.

Anyways this is definitely going to be a graphics thread, because this is neoGAF

Hmmm. Witcher 3 just came out and it does everything that bethesda games do but better in every feasible way.

I agree, I'm sure UE4 can pull off something close to a beth game, but only by the architects themselves, as knowing what an engine can do is just as important of a catalyst or bottleneck as what the engine is capable of

Come back to me in 200 hours and say that. THey both work with the same hardware, and both have competent developers. Where something gets better, something else gets worse. It's an illusion to think the far prettier game is doing just as much as the uglier game under the hood. This is the art of game development, choosing where to spend your assets. I like the way Bethesda spends them, which is more under-the-hood

It's amazing how many apologists in here are eager to grovel for anything Fallout related that they think for someone to expect decent graphics in 2015 is just crazy!

What's wrong with people? How can it be so hard to understand that there is a certain level of graphical fidelity expected of each generation, and this game is clearly indicative of a ps3/360 game, yet the apologists are lining up for preorders because they don't care if it was a NES game at this point "giv meh morr falloot!"

How can people have such low/non existent standards and be so childish as to dismiss others for actually wanting good game play AND good graphics, wow, what a crazy expectation.

It's pathetic how so many people are talking down on anyone not blindly buying this day 0 because we have functioning eyes that tell us how bad the games graphics and animations are.

Sorry for all the people that have standards and expect an increase in graphical fidelity between games, many people in here say that every past game has looked bad so why would we expect this to look better...

So because their games are always of low graphical fidelity, they get a free pass and we should accept it rather than look at graphical upgrades as a reasonable next step/improvement in future titles.

I'm not foolish enough to group all of gaf together as some single entity as those grasping at straws are, but it's clear that the apologist confirmation bias is extremely prevalent in threads like this.

Nobody's complaining about people complaining about graphics not meeting their expectations. It's the ridiculous posts claiming it looks no better than a PS3 game, a 3DS game and Fallout 3, New Vegas. Oh, there was also a comparison to The Sims in there.

Even the GAF thread can't ruin my hype! Despite its best efforts. War never changes, and neither does this website. This is the first footage we've ever seen, it'll look better at launch. And it looks fine now.

From someone who has never played a fallout game:

character models are very low-poly. That dog's hair sucks and the whole thing does not impress graphically at all. It's a turn-off actually. Too ugly for me to play.

I'm sure a majority of the people havent played fallout 3 who are complinaing as well. Or they have bad memories.

Fallout 3 looked like shit when it came out on PS3 and 360, and PC, everything was jank, but the open world and multiple things to do was so appealing it was easy to forgive that.

Fallout 4 actually looks like a proper generational upgrade to that, even if its not up to the standards of say a Far Cry or something like that. As long as it runs well.

As good a reason as any, considering the commercial challenges of AAA games development. But as far as I know neither UE nor CryEngine has been tested like Gamebryo in terms of tracking thousands of objects and people, save files that are MBs in size, etc. For all we know they could end up jankier and even less reliable.

I'm totally willing to take the slightly less than top tier graphics if that means that loading in between buildings is completely gone. IF they still have that then yeah...lol Bethesda come on.

The most important thing, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a sneaking suspicion that larger dungeons will still be separate cells, but we can always hope.

First thought: Yep, that's Fallout.

2nd thought: Hmmm, no downgrade meltdown coming at least?

Semi interested. Loved the originals, did not care much about the 3D transition.

Far Cry 3/4 might as well have been the same game. It was incredibly repetitive.

Fallout is a master at contextual story telling. Give me Fallout 4 with slightly worse graphics over whatever Far Cry 5 ends up being.

I personally don't care about graphical quality to the extend that I will complain about a games graphics with only a reveal trailer to judge.
What are the chances this will be 60fps on consoles?
If it looks this good and can be 60fps maybe that will shut up some of the entitled whiners

I think it looks great

Holy shit, I'm fucking crying. I totally understand the graphics complaints, but this was just... incredible. Like holy shit, the tone is soooo right.

No, no it doesn't. If I weren't posting on my phone I'd elaborate but in ways they are different games with different aims and for the aims of Bethesda games witcher has some real weaknesses. That isn't to say it's not an excellent game. But bethesa does do some stuff better because some stuff witcher isn't trying to do.

Check out Fallout 3 again, I dare you.

When I say this looks exactly like Fallout 3 I'm not speaking about the graphics. I'm talking about the way this trailer shows the exact same world and actions you were capable of in fallout 3. I want something that feels fresh. I imagined real environment traversal, climbing, crawling, exploring. I imagined tool crafting and scavenging for supplies. I imagined new creatures and animals. I imagined new armor for god sakes. I can go on and on but this trailer looks just like Fallout 3 to me. I want fallout 4.

Graphics are fine. Expecting the same level of animation seen in previous games. Just iron out glitches and make sure the FPS is good.

But honestly I'm excited for the exploration and stories.

I'm at a loss here guys. Are we still talking about this game?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Even if it was true. Sure, fuck those people who buy great games regardless of graphics.

They probably didn't show off every single game mechanic, enemy type and item in this trailer.

Hmmm. Witcher 3 just came out and it does everything that bethesda games do but better in every feasible way.
When CDProjekt Red makes a first person, postapocalyptic wasteland explorer with physics objects out the wazoo and countless character permutations, let me know.
(I'm being serious. If anyone but Bethesda can fill that niche, I'll drop their games like a hot potato. Witcher III is a total GOAT)
