I see all these people going "MICROSOFT SO DUMB WHY HAVEN'T THEY PUT HALO ON PC," but they're outright ignoring that Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, and Rise of Nations aren't just on Steam, they're fully integrated with Steamworks functionality, their multiplayer works, and so on and so forth. And, again, Age of Empires II is even getting expansions.

Like, really, is Halo the only thing that's supposed to make us happy at this stage?

They could at least put the existing games they own--like Gears of War--on Steam, and make sure they keep working once GFWL is gone.

Spondership from MS now indicates to me there will be more MS there than expected.
Maybe shift some game announcements from their presser to this using their cross-play cross-buy model and improvements to dx12. Maybe a few game announcements that will be cross-play and when to expect streaming from the xbox one to your pc. IDK im just guessing. hehe

Xbox everywhere!!!

Oh god... how dare Microsoft allow a studio to do something new instead of making the same game the fourth time in a row!

Oh wait, weren't we complaining about how Microsoft only allows their first party developers to only develop the same game over and over?

You're saying fans of a developer should be happy when they've been put on a F2P title because it's something new?

Eagerly awaiting a Gears of War announcement. There's a chance right?

I wonder if that Gears remaster could show up on PC.

Ensemble is one company. Lionhead's still around and making games. BigHuge games died because of 38 Studios; Epic resurrected them for about five minutes before shuttering them.

Don't get me wrong: it's not huge. But it bugs me that people fail to acknowledge that MS made this move, that it was a move people were begging for for years, and, oh, right, that last I checked, Age of Empires II HD is still the single most played RTS on Steam.

I mean... you know me. I love Halo. I write about Halo for Kotaku. I want to play Halo on the PC so much that I sat there while I was editing gifs for my latest article and found my hands drifting to WSAD even though it was freaking video footage. I love Halo.

I just also feel like Age of Empires 2 is equally a huge deal is all, y'know?

Again, don't get me wrong: I'd love to see Microsoft going "hey. Here is a big, huge PC game. It takes advantage of PC stuff. There's no cross-platform play. This is a proper Age of Empires. Also we're announcing five more exclusive, major, non-F2P PC games." I want that hard. But... I mean... Age of Empires 2 means a whole lot to me, Microsoft has done a great job, and it feels like nobody cares.
You know me. I don't give a shit about Halo. All MS has to do to start convincing me is to bring back one of the PC franchises they killed. And with a real new entry on a full budget, not a re-release or F2P spinoff.

Slight de-rail, but I've seen this "No NFL, no buy" sentiment for this rumored Montana foolball game. I'm not a football fan, I don't play sports or sports games, but what would be the bad thing about a non-NFL football game?

I want to see my NFL players and likenesses and logos etc...

That's really important to me.

No NFL, no buy for me.

The NFL license is what's holding back Madden.

It forces EA to pump out a yearly, recycled game. (aka $60 roster updates with a handful of new, canned animations and new menu overlays)

Without the NFL license, they can take their sweet time, making the game as awesome as possible.

Microsoft has licensed a 1st party football game before. I hope they do it again. And I hope they do it without the NFL.

2/3 of those came out in 2014, the post was made in 2013. I doubt the girl was a psychic.
Who said I was talking about the Op?

I'm talking about the people that come into threads, link that post and then leave. THEY are the ones failing to mention those games while trying to harp on that old post, while totally disregarding the new boss, MSs new focus of gaming across devices, and partnerships they have already been establishing to bring games to their new store.

Sorry if I'm unimpressed by HD re-releases of great old games after they disbanded the companies who created them.

Still hurt when they let Ensemble go, even they were shocked. Brought the company billions only to be let go. And it's not like they were let go for under performing or anything.

I remember reading the blog post by the creative director, was sad to read.

No, he's asking for receipts on your other bold claim.

Only other claim I made is their major restructuring...

Link Here

They restructured most of the company and now the company works together instead of internal fighting with every department. Instead of Windows Phone and Windows being separate they are now both under the same department, along with Xbox OS and any other software development at the company. All the hardware development is also under the same department, the same guys that designed the Xbox One also designed the Microsoft Band.

Are you?

I mean seriously? You're asking for receipts that they have a new CEO and that Xbox is head by a new guy?
Yes. Receipts. I love Phil, I really do, but so far, he's only really had the chance to produce I-Owe-You's moreso than proof of what he's capable of.

And when it comes to PC, Microsoft has been PISS POOR in it's treatment. So they are going to have to show me something substantial before I can believe it.

Not sure why I'm bothering at this point, but Spencer has been involved as a manager or better in the MS gaming division since 2008, he's been there for the bad decisions, too. I think it's disingenuous to act like he hasn't had a hand in the the debacle that has been MS and PC gaming for the last 5+ years.

This isn't the same Microsoft, point blank.

They just had a huge restructuring, a brand new CEO and Xbox is head by a guy that is actually working to make gaming better for all of us.

A company is not the sum of one man. Pardon me if I am not instantly willing to accept the motivations of Microsoft in terms of PC gaming based on a few changes of employees / ranks / strategy. They have to prove themselves over many years, and as far as I have seen, they are yet to do so.

Don't need Ms for that.
Use Vulkan - problem solved once and for all.

I hope to see great things from Vulkan, purely as a multiplatform graphics API and the power that could bring to developers and all platforms they want to support.

They could at least put the existing games they own--like Gears of War--on Steam, and make sure they keep working once GFWL is gone.

Yup. They should also bring Fable 3 back, since it only disappeared 'cause it was tied to GFWL and they ran out of GFWL keys.

You know me. I don't give a shit about Halo. All MS has to do to start convincing me is to bring back one of the PC franchises they killed. And with a real new entry on a full budget, not a re-release or F2P spinoff.

That, for me, would be the ideal. Heck, I'd be happy with a Halo Wars 2 exclusive to PC, except for the part where I don't think 343 can actually do that.

I didn't know Lionhead Studios was disbanded... learn something new every day.
PC gamers in general aren't going to be impressed by developers like Lionhead. If Microsoft want to impress with games, they would have to release new entries in Flight Simulator, Age of Empires, Close Combat and Mechwarrior. Either that, or come out with new titles that can energize the market - games like Freelancer or Rise of Nations.

if this is true I'll change my opinion of Microsoft. imo, as a gamer that is investing $1000+ in a PC to play games on a Windows 10 platform I'm hopeful that Microsoft will be on board creating games that will take advantage of DirectX 12 instead of just making the tools for other developers to take advantage of DirectX 12.

I don't want Fable btw. Nor do I care about Age of Empire.

If Microsoft were to say..."Red Dead Redemption Port coming to PC" I'd become a Microsoft fanboi over night. I know that won't happen though.

Quantum Break on PC, please. It's all I would want. Oh, and Sunset Overdrive as well.

About time MS started to support PC fulltime!

Just because someone is there when bad decisions are made doesn't mean he has the power to do anything about it. Believe it or not but when you're under someone there is only so much power you can wield.

Being in the position he is in now is a completely different role from what he was in before.

Phil might throw you a scrap or two. Killer Instinct, Forza 5, or something like that.

Implying a Forza title and KIller Instinct on PC is a scrap...

They were shut down before they even released their MS mandated console rts.

Well, there is this other one too:

This isn't the same Microsoft, point blank.

the last time Microsoft claimed they had a great PC gaming announcement they announced Xbox One streaming to PC. I would hope they dont waste our time and hopes again.

It's only last year that some chap by the name of Phil Spencer said that E3's not the place to talk about PC Games. So I'm hardly expecting much from this. At least we'll get another token gesture to stick on Angelus Errare's post.

There wasn't a PC gaming conference last year either.

Well, there is this other one too:

You believe that Phil Spencer isn't trying to make gaming better for all of us?

http://www.vg247.com/2015/03/06/microsoft-working-with-sony-and-nintendo-to-combat-ddos-attacks/

He is constantly talking up about Nintendo and Sony any chance he has.

If there is any evidence to the contrary of my statement... I haven't seen it.

Yeah, there is another thing that is easily forgotten. Microsoft's current move feel reactionary to the fact that PC developers are amassing to discuss the platform for gaming without them. Would this have happened at all without PC gamer and AMD

I feel like MS now owns Remedy, and will put Quantum Break and the Gears remaster on PC a few months after they launch on Xbox One.

Yes. Receipts. I love Phil, I really do, but so far, he's only really had the chance to produce I-Owe-You's moreso than proof of what he's capable of

Definitely. I was buying into the hype when he started saying all of the right things after their rocky launch of the Xbox One. A lot of time has passed since then and its beginning to look like it was just a bunch of empty promises. Perhaps they come out of E3 looking great if they can deliver for both consoles and PC. I'm just getting tired of hearing all of this talk about their commitment to the PC platform with so little to show that backs that up.

Still hurt when they let Ensemble go, even they were shocked. Brought the company billions only to be let go. And it's not like they were let go for under performing or anything.

I remember reading the blog post by the creative director, was sad to read.

Former Ensemble Studios developer Paul Bettner has blamed himself and Ensemble's studio culture for the company's demise and has refused to condemn Microsoft for the developer's closure.

Speaking at the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC), as reported by sister site Eurogamer, Bettner commented: "The reality is that every single game we shipped took twice as long as we said it was going to take, and cost twice as much to make."

"Microsoft is a public company, they answer to their shareholders, and we were simply too expensive."

Bettner went on to blame himself for the poor quality of life at the studio, where "everyone was a workaholic", and for the cost and inefficiency of running the studio.

Sounds like their performance was exactly a big part of the problem, unfortunately for the people that worked there.

You know me. I don't give a shit about Halo. All MS has to do to start convincing me is to bring back one of the PC franchises they killed. And with a real new entry on a full budget, not a re-release or F2P spinoff.

They have been outsourcing their "HD" upgrades to AoE/AoM/RoN to Skybox Labs etc, if they were making new stuff, it will take a while in development to get going and then to show it.

They name dropped Decisive Games in that first party re-org video and a job listing had them down as a strategy game studio making games for Windows and Xbox. I can't see why they would name drop them if they weren't going to actually announce something soon, might be at Gamescom rather than E3 though

The fact MS pays for exclusives goes against the idea of making gaming better for everyone mate. How is making Tomb Raider exclusive to XBOX for 2015 making gaming better for PS4 and PC gamers? Phil is making gaming better for everyone like <insert Sony person here> is. As in...they're not, because that's not their aim.

Praising your rivals on twitter means little.

I agree. The HD ports are nice, but Microsoft going back to their PC first party roots would kick ass.

No, not really. I guess I just disagree with the amount of effort you have to put in something to get praise like that.

As far as Steam survey is concerned they still own 95% of the PC gaming market.

There is little need to be reactionary and make moves against competitors like SteamOS that have still not realized any great following.

This is the result of new people taking charge in a company that is less up it's own butt then it was for years.
