Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

How about something close to Infamous SS quality? Remotely close. That would have been awesome.

In Oblivion, Skyrim and probably Fallout 3 / New Vegas, every single NPC has their own life that they live wether you're there to see it or not. They eat, talk with friends, go to work etc, and can be permanently killed off. They also have tons of side quests, most of which are fairly unique. They also have a much, much larger world, with a ton of indoor and out door locations, with virtually uncountable numbers of weapons, armour, clothes and other items, a far more rebuts levelling up and class system, conversation trees and usually have a butt load of easter eggs.

Second Son looks good for sure, but it lacks all of the above and I know which I'd rather have if it were a choice between good graphics and all of the above.

Ofcourse they're not mutually exclusive, but it's far easier for a game as shallow as infamous to have better graphics for many reasons.

It's amazing how many apologists in here are eager to grovel for anything Fallout related that they think for someone to expect decent graphics in 2015 is just crazy!

What's wrong with people? How can it be so hard to understand that there is a certain level of graphical fidelity expected of each generation, and this game is clearly indicative of a ps3/360 game, yet the apologists are lining up for preorders because they don't care if it was a NES game at this point "giv meh morr falloot!"

How can people have such low/non existent standards and be so childish as to dismiss others for actually wanting good game play AND good graphics, wow, what a crazy expectation.

It's pathetic how so many people are talking down on anyone not blindly buying this day 0 because we have functioning eyes that tell us how bad the games graphics and animations are.

Sorry for all the people that have standards and expect an increase in graphical fidelity between games, many people in here say that every past game has looked bad so why would we expect this to look better...

So because their games are always of low graphical fidelity, they get a free pass and we should accept it rather than look at graphical upgrades as a reasonable next step/improvement in future titles.

I'm not foolish enough to group all of gaf together as some single entity as those grasping at straws are, but it's clear that the apologist confirmation bias is extremely prevalent in threads like this.

I have no words.

Complaints about graphics wherever I look.

Current gen seems to cause either (i) impressive trailers and downgrade discussion post-release or (ii) authentic footage and instant complaints...

I'd rather opt for the latter (excluding graphics dominating the whole discussion).

12 years of hands technology has brought us to this moment...woah

Yep, San Andreas in 480p looked EXACTLY like this:

I'd say mabye even a bit better

Since the dog is a key part in the trailer, I kept seeing him not looking as good as Riley from COD Ghosts. I wish that fur had more fluff in it! ;)

Whatever, I just want to play a new Fallout go cry about graphics somewhere else :P

Thanks for having a real discussion instead of being a dismissive baby, I must be in the wrong though, how dare I expect good graphics, that's utterly unreasonable of me.

Nobody's complaining about people complaining about graphics not meeting their expectations. It's the ridiculous posts claiming it looks no better than a PS3 game, a 3DS game and Fallout 3, New Vegas. Oh, there was also a comparison to The Sims in there.

I agree with you that those comparisons are hyperbole and not accurate but the truth is that the assets are of 360/ps3 fidelity and I would expect more considering it's a new generation.

I understand there is more to a game than graphics but there is also more to a game than the story and game world. Just because some of it is great doesn't mean you should just take the rest of the slop over and over again. The experience could be even better if Bethesda improved other aspects of the games instead of remaining static. I don't know how Fallout 4 plays yet so hopefully Bethesda have come on leaps and bounds but don't settle for second best, we are not demanding something beyond normal means. If the game looks like that but the mechanics etc. are an outstanding improvement then great but if Bethesda are dragging their heals again, I'm sorry but that sucks and the rest of the game doesn't get them a pass.

As good a reason as any, considering the commercial challenges of AAA games development. But as far as I know neither UE nor CryEngine has been tested like Gamebryo in terms of tracking thousands of objects and people, save files that are MBs in size, etc. For all we know they could end up jankier and even less reliable.

I wholeheartedly agree! If there is any benefit of them using Gamebryo/Creation it's that the mods will fix literally everything wrong with the game.

In terms of games on CryEngine of that scale, that's exactly what Star Citizen is currently attempting, and it will have way more to simulate than Fallout 4 just because of the added multiplayer aspects (assuming the scale of the game remains as its been marketed).

EDIT: how could I forget Kingdom Come? That is also open-world on CryEngine, although I am not super familiar with how large or small that game's world will be.

I'm at a loss here guys. Are we still talking about this game?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Even if it was true. Sure, fuck those people who buy great games regardless of graphics.

it's not you. those graphic nitpickers are the ones on crazy pills. where the f do they even get that attitude from.

Good to see Dogmeat alive and well.

that was my first thought as well :P

When I say this looks exactly like Fallout 3 I'm not speaking about the graphics. I'm talking about the way this trailer shows the exact same world and actions you were capable of in fallout 3. I want something that feels fresh. I imagined real environment traversal, climbing, crawling, exploring. I imagined tool crafting and scavenging for supplies. I imagined new creatures and animals. I imagined new armor for god sakes. I can go on and on but this trailer looks just like Fallout 3 to me. I want fallout 4.
Well, considering it's a reveal trailer, I wouldn't go all doom and gloom just yet. It sets the tone and starts the hype, and then they actually start saying stuff about the game at E3.

I'm sure a majority of the people havent played fallout 3 who are complinaing as well. Or they have bad memories.

Fallout 3 looked like shit when it came out on PS3 and 360, everything was jank, but the open world and multiple things to do was so appealing it was easy to forgive that.

Fallout 4 actually looks like a proper generational upgrade to that, even if its not up to the standards of say a Far Cry or something like that. As long as it runs well.
What about this looks more 'open world' or less jank? I saw a 'town' that looked straight out of fallout 3. I saw a monster with fallout 3 animations. I'm still pumped. I'm no graphics whore. This looks, mechanically speaking, last gen. It looks like one of those 'hd remasters' people hate.

They probably didn't show off every single game mechanic, enemy type and item in this trailer.

I'm with you, I think it looks great. I'm sure actually being able to sit down and play it on a huge TV with some headphones will be an awesome experience. Which is really the whole point.

The game was just announced. I highly, highly doubt that they would show new things now. Especially if the game isn't coming out for over a year

Hairworks is a grossly profligate use of rendering power - it seemingly costs as much as all other visual elements combined in W3! Ubi's fur tech in Far Cry 4, by contrast, was a pretty decent compromise and didn't cost much at all.

What!? its at most 5 fps for almost maxing it. The default settings were ridiculous but taking the aa away and forcing the tessellation to x16 still lets me run it on a 290 with most things on ultra at 35-45fps

That to me looks like a significant boost over F3/NV, and certainly not possible on last gen hardware.

But some it seems would rather have better fur on a dog than improved modeling, textures, lighting, and draw distances.

Its most definitely a large boost of the old games

People are too busy comparing it to its current and upcoming competition

Had so much fun with Fallout 3. Can't wait. Graphically it looks really impressing and I'm sure mods will make it one of the best looking game on the platform as usual. One of the games that will make justifying buying a new PC next year a lot easier.

Graphics look great to me, definitely an improvement but from the looks of it hopefully not too straining on the consoles, not that it matters much since I'll be playing on PC. But it definitely looks like they're going for a bit more performance over flair so hopefully a steady 30fps for you guys on console. I'm also impressed the initial reveal trailer was 3 minutes long and entirely composed of in-game footage and not a boring CGI tease.

We can hope. Although given its roots, maybe as much time in the oven as possible would be good for it.

Agreed. But I think they know how to develop a game like this now. They've had so much practice. I'm pretty optimistic

This is getting really overlooked. Beth put their cards on the table, that's ballsy and I think speaks for the game. I bet you a release date is near...

Hmmm. Witcher 3 just came out and it does everything that bethesda games do but better in every feasible way.

No absolutely does not
I find Witcher cut and paste and repetitive quests
and I am really tired of getting stuck in building, roads etc
to the point I need to reload my last save

Bethesda does single player RPG to the max
and I have more freedom to do what I want
I never even need to do the main quests
they give the player freedom no other game has ever matched for me
I put in over 1000 hours in oblivion, witcher 1 play thru, and right now the game is a chore

To play devil's advocate here, it's a bit disingenuous to use a downscaled gif as it ends up looking better than what it'll actually look like for most people.

I guess what disappoints me about this trailer is that there is just not a lot of progression visible from Fallout 3/NV. The engine looks very similar, just more colorful, it seems like the game will play the same way, animations are still poor..

Like, when I look at Witcher 2 (2011) and Witcher 3 (2015) there is insane difference in quality everywhere (and I loved TW2 already). Huge jump.

But when I look at Fallout 3 (2008) and Fallout 4 (2016), the difference seems very small.

I mean, yes, environments look interesting to explore, there is more color and main character has latex jumpsuit he should have had back in Fallout 3 already. But still..

The graphics are great for a Fallout game wtf.

Seems people forget how horrible Fallout 3 and Vegas looked smh.

I dislike this kind of logic. There is nothing about Fallout being Fallout that necessitates poor technical presentation. Not with Bethesda having hundreds of millions of dollars at its disposal.
