Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

Okay, I fully admit that as a proud resident of the state of NY this will sound salty as hell, but is it just me who has noticed that Boston has seemingly become the center of the United States over the last ten years?

Yes, I'm aware that there are a lot of reasons for Boston to be so popular, all of which are from the sports world. It was started in 2004, when the Red Sox, down 3-0 in the ALCS against their archrival Yankees, came back, won all four games, and went on to sweep the World Series and become the most popular team in baseball, winning two more titles since. The Patriots have been the measuring stick in the NFL as Tom Brady has become the game's most popular player by a country mile, and even controversies like spying on other teams and deflating footballs have seemingly INCREASED their popularity. The Celtics and Bruins have consistently been among the most popular franchises in their respective sports, and the horrible tragedy at the Boston Marathon two years ago just increased the love and admiration for the city. One of the biggest stars in the WWE, John Cena, is a native of West Newbury, just outside Boston. One of the most acclaimed and popular movies of the last ten years, The Departed, was set in Boston. Oh yeah, and the frigging Olympics are most likely going to be held there in 10 years.

And now, Fallout 4 will be set in Boston. While the series isn't as high-profile as, say, Grand Theft Auto it's still a a huge show of respect for a city. And considering that residents of the city aren't exactly...ahem...humble, I think it's just going to increase the ego of Mass-GAF.

And I'll just say it now. Translation: BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

I think you're reading WAY too much into things.

Oh trust me, you'll be close to the dog. And then it'll die. And you will cry.
I'd :lol if that weren't 100% true. I will be restarting so many times just to keep Dogmeat alive.

I cant even beli8eve people are making excuses. Bethesda doesnt need you to defend their shitty practices. They owe you, not the other way around. And what have they done with the money from all of the sales we have given them? It sure as fuck isnt being put into making a beter looking game. If you want to know what that looks like look at the GTA series, or Witcher, or any other series.

Stop being a bunch of damned suckers. They owe you. Not the other way around. And with the number of sales theyve gotten over the years from us, with as long as we have put up with these greedy fucks pocketing those profits and obviously putting fuck all back into game after game, and now they cant even give us an improved engine even on next generation machines? Why are you people suck suckers?

For those complaining about the gay-brown look of fallout 3... that's excactly how it was supposed to look
imgFallout%2025.jpg

In fact fo4 reminded me of the bright, colorful and clean type 0 hd compared to the original type 0 that was dark and gritty on purpose.

Obviously changes happen and maybe it's for the better, but honestly i loved the lifeless look of the fo3 wasteland.

I agree with you, but the impression I got from the trailer is that it seems to be at a slightly more advanced date than previous Fallout games. "Advanced" technology seems to be more common and the visual effects of the destruction aren't as visible, though there is part of the trailer in which the wasteland seems more similar to Fallout 3's and is yellow-tinted... I like the contrast and I hope the advancements translate to a more interesting plot.

Is posting a jpg/gif your version of an intellectual counter argument?

Why not try to dispute the statements I've made if you disagree. Hype for hype's sake is a marketing scheme, not a way of life.

Fallout is a series where three out of the four mainline entries are a sublime mix of absurdist referential cultural humor mixed with legitimate moral commentary. One of the few gaming properties that even attempts to validate itself with the human condition even while still being a game first.

Watching that devolve into focus group produced dreck is fairly shameful on the industry.
The intellectual counter argument is that you're making assumptions that it's going to be a "Focus group produced dreck" after seeing 3 minutes of a teaser trailer. Anyone's opinion that is that strong after seeing 3 minutes of a game that is probably dozens of hours long doesn't deserve to be taken seriously.

You're doing the video game equivalent of judging a book by it's cover. Or saying a movie is going to definitely be shit because you saw a trailer once.

And news flash, the vertical slice or on-rails deception is the most widely used tactic in even open world games to make them seem just as open but much prettier. To stop keeping track of things in a game space is to make the experience more linear, or similar in subsequent revisits, like the witcher does in comparison. To keep track is to create a more open-ended game space. If you do not see the benefit in the game-space being more open-ended then you are not going to see any value in the graphics taking a hit for this open-ended ability. That just means this isn't your type of game. For those that do appreciate that type of thing, Fallout 4 is the second-coming of Jesus Christ

It may sound crazy but the consistent(XB1, PS4, PC) order of platforms make me think there will be gameplay at the MS E3 conference or some kind of deal(DLC,etc.).

Can't wait for Fallout 4. Personally prefer F3 and NV to the Elder Scrolls games.

That was.. kinda disappointing actually. Graphics look terrible. Hopefully game itself will still be fun like the other ones. And less buggy hopefully..

Looks great but I just hope this isn't touted as some "100+ hr open world adventure" with loads of side quests. I'm really hoping for a more focused story line as I couldn't get thru both fallout 3 or skyrim.

It's amazing how many apologists in here are eager to grovel for anything Fallout related that they think for someone to expect decent graphics in 2015 is just crazy!

What's wrong with people? How can it be so hard to understand that there is a certain level of graphical fidelity expected of each generation, and this game is clearly indicative of a ps3/360 game, yet the apologists are lining up for preorders because they don't care if it was a NES game at this point "giv meh morr falloot!"

How can people have such low/non existent standards and be so childish as to dismiss others for actually wanting good game play AND good graphics, wow, what a crazy expectation.

It's pathetic how so many people are talking down on anyone not blindly buying this day 0 because we have functioning eyes that tell us how bad the games graphics and animations are.

Sorry for all the people that have standards and expect an increase in graphical fidelity between games, many people in here say that every past game has looked bad so why would we expect this to look better...

So because their games are always of low graphical fidelity, they get a free pass and we should accept it rather than look at graphical upgrades as a reasonable next step/improvement in future titles.

I'm not foolish enough to group all of gaf together as some single entity as those grasping at straws are, but it's clear that the apologist confirmation bias is extremely prevalent in threads like this.
So what exactly do you want this game to look like? The Order? Killzone Shadow Fall? Linear games vs what will probably be one of the biggest open worlds ever made. When you make a bigger world, the graphics are going to take a hit. That's why the best looking games are always enclosed linear ones. The open world games that look great take big hits in framerate. Just look at Assassin's Creed Unity and The Witcher 3. The former was barely playable at launch and the latter has been quite annoying on PS4.

Should we be critical of games? Absolutely. I find myself more critcial than probably 95% of the gaming media. I would tear apart something like Dragon Age Inquisition in a review, but for the right reasons, gameplay ones. Graphics should be the least of your concern in an open world RPG. What you want would have taken Bethesda until 2018 and would still release with tons of bugs.

I want Bethesda to have their priorties in order:

A bigger world than ever before
Interesting Quests
Varied environmental and enemy design
A steady framerate
New gameplay mechanics

If they can nail all these, then fuck graphics. But if Bethesda fails to accomplish these things? Then fuck it, criticize them all you want. But let's be critical of the things that actually matter in regards to making something a good game.

I feel like we're too early to talk about graphics. Those gameplay sections look really good, but the visuals at the end with the guy and the dog aren't great; the style looks quite cartoony. However, I am pleased to see a bit more colour and I'd like to see a bit more variety in the environment than Fallout 3.

Here's the thing...

I think it's perfectly reasonable to complain about subpar visuals in a AAA game in this day and age. And not necessarily just the graphics, but the art style too. I'm not really impressed with either from the trailer.

On the other hand, most Bethesda games (including Obsidian's FNV, my absolute favorite) are big, fun, and absolutely butt fucking ugly. I mean, really now... did anyone actually think Fallout 4 was gonna be a huge change for the series? Slightly better, upgraded Fallout 3 is still butt fucking ugly by most standards.

Honestly, the one thing that really worries me visually is the fact that it looks like they're still using the same damn engine. Which means it will probably run like crap and be buggy as hell. I'd be totally ok with the visuals shown so far if it meant that they scaled back on graphics to provide a smoother experience.

Yeah.. I agree with that.

At this point I know what to expect from Bethesda and I'll probably end up liking the game, just like all the other ones, but this definitely doesn't have me "hyped" or anything. And yeah the engine thing doesn't sound so good.

Ok, now you're just being an ass. :/

Please refrain from name calling, I know what I'm saying can be taken personally if you choose to identify deeply with the game but what I'm saying isn't intended as a personal attack.

Don't think I have read a more entitled whiny post in the entire thread. If you think this trailer looks indicative of a 360 game then you need to blow the dust of your 360 and take another look at its games.

You're right, I'm a whiny entitled asshole for expecting a game in 2015 to look better than the trailer they put out makes it seem.

What's your problem dude? If you disagree with what I said give me a reason don't resort to personal attacks like a whiny child.

Looks fine to me. It's Fallout 4 and it's more or less the jump I was expecting. Don't get why, with Morrowind, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc. for perspective people expected this to be The Order level visuals combined with huge open world.

Man though it would be a hoot if you could play the entire game as the dog though.

Anyway I'm satisfied with that - more Fallout, more mutant retro 50s mayhem, more dogs (please don't die!).

Can we please have a thread where people can talk about how bad(yea right) the graphics are? Like others have said, its killing the mood. I've been awaiting this day for many years, and the constant talk on how the graphics are shit to them is really annoying.

FUCKING AWESOME. Don't really give a shit about graphics, Pc mods will fix that in like a week. It really reminds me of the skyrim reveal trailer. So hyped.

Some kind of crazy thinking, I just don't really get this vibe.

I'm still day 1 but lettuce be cereal

Yes, because comparing an announce trailer where you don't know what state the final graphics are in, to a screenshot of a finished product in-game screencap is a logically sound way to go about things.

I hope there will be a Red Sox Clan.

because that would be hilarious.

And if they attack using brooms, it'll be even better.

Anyway, I assumed the thread would be a lightning rod for Bethesda hate, but damn. Have expectations people, but it ain't right to assume that what you want is what everyone else should want. Looks like it'll look good to me.

cause we know bethesda's track record + skyrim sold a billion copies

I'm at a loss here guys. Are we still talking about this game?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Even if it was true. Sure, fuck those people who buy great games regardless of graphics.

.

I just don't understand how people think this is bad. lol

But isn't that exactly the purpose of the teaser? You seem to have had high expecations. Save those for the actual full reveal next week.

To make your tent pole narrative vignette focused game look like a twelve years old's pastiche of the apocalypse?

If that's what you want all power to you. I have expectations and they include a bit of class and style. The way companies choose to present a game rarely fails to reflect upon the core goals that went into design. Bethesda wants bigger numbers and that requires a generic audience, so their game is going to be more generic. This then shows in the style of content on display and the erratic, disjointed presentation. Don't focus on any one thing just be excited that this exists.

Its finally here, after 5 years we get a new fallout game. Admittedly the graphics didn't blow me away from that trailer, but who cares? That has never bothered me with their past games. Bethesda games always play best on PC and that means mods, glorious mods!

I'm betting on Fall 2015, I can't see why not, the game has had 3.5-4 years of dev time.

They are probably going to add kill streaks and jet packs.

Well it certainly looks like a small step above from Skyrim, the dog animation reminded me of the dragons flying in strict line pathways. You never play these for the graphics so I guess it looks compelling enough.

I'm very underwhelmed visual-wise for a debut trailer. At least it can't possibly be downgraded (can it?)

Have they started bullshitting about the engine they're using yet?

I'll buy it used. Bethesda has proven they couldn't give a fuck about their customers before, I don't need to give them anymore of my money.
