Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

I really hoped that Obsidian have classic FO spiritual successor as their next kickstarter in line.
Don't think Obsidian will ever work with Bethesda ever again after the stupid, Metacritic deal.

Never say never.

I'd love for them to do another game in the West Coast.

I don't think Fallout fans want to wait 8 years for the next Fallout game while they develop the next Elder Scrolls.

What's the over/under on Gamebryo?

I don't think Bethesda's ever getting off the Gamebryo train. At least they figured out how to get a lighting engine into this version. Still haven't figured out HBAO though, and it will be harder to inject in this game than in previous Gamebryo games (DX11 vs DX9).

Wow. A bethesda game that doesn't look like complete and total shit. I guess theres a first time for everything.

Don't worry, knowing it's a Bethesda game the shitty animations will more than cover up for any improved graphics.

It's funny that Behesda, even though all their shortcomings, still manage to make me hyped for every new Elder Scroll and Fallout release.

Day 1

I keep reading through the pages but I still can't find an exact answer. Has it been confirmed it's using gamebyro or are people only assuming because of animations and game assets?

Ive given my opinion several times so for you I shall again.

It lacks cohesion, there is no narrative, it is disjointed. The trailer opens within seconds with flashback scenes before even establishing what is going on. Our only characterization is a dog that lacks any distinguishing actions, features, or explanation. Is the world our focus? If so than why is it constant quick cuts of various brief locations interspersed with how they used to look? Is this a time travel game?

Similar to FO3 the brief glimpses of settlements are convoluted, ornate, and fantasy in the amount of technological innovation these post war communities apparently can scrounge together. Who has power armor hanging in a gas station within view of a city?

What again should I be impressed, impacted, and influenced by? In what way does this trailer impart a cohesive vision on the narrative/moral goals of the game? It's a very generic the apocalypse has happened retread tonally in a series that had already addressed that in the very first and third games. It's not a surprise this is Bethesdas idea because they are a financially motivated focus group testing creatively deplorable outfit.

So yet again...what does the trailer actually bring to the table?

You have some rather strange expectations for a teaser trailer.

5 year development cycles are not that uncommon. Remember Kingdom Hearts main series?

For it's time it was good

think about it the game came out in 2007. That's 8 years ago, I'm surprised playing it a few days ago that it still looked okay compared to other 2007 games.

Yes, i think you are right. Sometimes seeing how last gen games looked can be shocking.

I got the urge to replay Burnout Paradise last month, a game that i loved on ps3 and thought had pretty graphics. Running the pc version at max settings i couldn't believe that game was that blocky and blurred.

Granted that the pc port seems to be really lazy, but the difference of what i remembered and the reality was astonishing.

This instantly vaults to #1 on my most anticipated. There's so much going on in the trailer and exploring was my absolute favorite part of FO3. It's the reason why I think FO3 is a more enjoyable game than New Vegas. This new world looks exciting and I cannot wait. Hoping 2015!

Would you change your tune if it was 60 FPS? Which we do not know yet?

You said it yourself - we don't know yet. It's perfectly reasonable to form an opinion on the information we do have. Speculating is also fine, but let's not get at each other's throats over hypotheticals in either direction.

The graphics aren't bothering me but I doubt it will be 60 fps on console.

It does sort of look like it could be though. It's just not very impressive in any way. No crazy dense vegetation like in TW3, average textures, average character models, no ambient occlusion (which I REALLY think is hurting the overall look), poor LOD in the distance, no particularly advanced shading nor PBR from what I can see, etc. So yeah, to me this looks like it COULD run at 60 fps on the consoles. Not saying it will though. Might just be that Bethesda's engine can't do better than this with decent performance.

Well, Gamebryo reported back in Nov 2014 that they do have a next-gen version of their engine in development that supports 64bit OS, Directx11 and Mantle. They also mentioned looking into Direct X12. See the link below for more:

http://gamingbolt.com/gamebryo-inte...gine-with-high-quality-graphics-and-stability

This has nothing to do with Bethesda's engine. They bought the GameBryo engine back in, what, 1999/2000? Modified it in-house for Morrowind which launched in 2002, and since then have altered and added so much to it that it bears hardly any resemblance to the original.

It doesn't matter what GameBryo adds to their engine, because Bethesda haven't used anything from GameBryo since Morrowind. It's all been their own in-house alterations since then to the point that they've been able to give their engine it's own name.

You have really high expectations for something that was created purely to say 'This game exists'

I really do love this trailer, I can't stop watching it. I wouldn't say I am a huge fallout fan either. I think the last time I watched a trailer over and over again was one of Mass Effect 2's trailer.

Really looking forward to more info on Fallout 4.

Honestly, I find the bad graphics kind of endearing. Or maybe just the dog. Whatever. I jist hope they hired a good writer, even if the questing sucks.

You must be fun at parties.

You know that idiom doesn't mean anything, correct?

It's a reflexive psychological defense mechanism humans use to detach themselves from differing points of view in an attempt to claim that those with contrary ideas must be incapable of existing in a social framework outside of their opinion and thusly devaluing their worth as a human an based on their acceptance by a community.

It's effectively an attempt to dehumanize others. Interesting that my constructed opinions have had enough of an effect on your life that you have to attempt to break me down on a personal level in order to feel better about yourself.

Have you ever thought of the sheer cruelty of what you're doing there? That you need to attempt to bully and intimidate someone and make them feel like less of a human because of their Internet posted opinion? I'm sorry your moral center is so damaged, I hope it gets better someday. I'd suggest seeing a therapist. :)

I'm calling it. It has coop and neoGaf will go crazy, both the graphic whiners and the armchair gamedesigners. It will be glorious!

On a more serious note, this looks awesome. Can't wait to have a closer look at it soon.

Everything is an assumption.
.... gaf .... really?

On topic, I haven't seen anything in the trailer that has put me off graphics wise. It's not the best in the world but I'd rather it look like it does and run smooth then look like Witcher 3 and run like the Witcher 3.

That baby looks like a doll though. Maybe it is and the family is actually crazy.

Would you change your tune if it was 60 FPS? Which we do not know yet?

Well I'm the wrong person to ask, I don't think FPS is end all be all, 30 FPS is for me more than playable (anyone having been a boy playing PC games on a tight hardware budget can probably relate). For me presentation was always more important, I mean come on, games a visual medium, it needs to improve, I expect it to.

I think we need to start comparing it to their old games and not their competitors

Its not really fair honestly

Are we going to expect every developer to eventually turn into Naughty Dog and CDPR?

Different team, talent, environment

Everything they are showing here is an improvement from what they have done before and that should be praised

Sure, but then look at Oblivion, that was the most stunning game I had ever seen when it came out, really nothing could touch it. Why can't they do that again? What's their excuse?

I can agree of course that not all companies posses the talent - but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed, if they lack the talent they should go find it. I can't demand that game developers should do everything in their power to make the most stunning looking, best playing and most interesting game they can? I EXPECT THEM TO, no of course there will be compromise, but this is too far for me to label it as such. It is an improvement, but by the time that have past I expect more.

The trailer is suppose to make you ask questions, not spoil everything, seems to be working though because you seem very interested. :)

The graphics look awesome to me. The best part though is they look like they can actually run on ps4 / xb1. I would take this over bullshots and a downgrade right before release anyday. Day fucking 1, even with Bethesdas glitches.

You really wouldn't want to wish Bethesda glitches on yourself, I'm telling ya.

I've learned my lesson from an entire generation's worth of games from them; staying well the fuck away from this for at least a couple of months before playing. And with the immensely vocal criticism on broken games these days, if Bethesda brings it out in usual form, the shitstorm is going to be massive.

But isn't that exactly the purpose of the teaser? You seem to have had high expecations. Save those for the actual full reveal next week.

He's not wrong though, that was a shit trailer, teaser or otherwise.

And everyone is probably going to jump all over me for saying that just like they're jumping on him, but me saying that the trailer was terrible is not me proclaiming that Fallout 4 is going to be terrible - it could be an amazing game for all I know. But strictly speaking about video game trailers.... that was not a good trailer.

What was the point of the dog walking through the house, switching between the past and the future? Was it supposed to be sad? Creepy? There was no mood or atmosphere being set up, it was basically just a bunch of flashbacks to pre-war times, which is pretty pointless because we all know the basic history of the Fallout world. There was no new revelation to be had, or mystery to be unraveled because it's basically just reiterating the set-up for the post-apocalyptic world that's been present from the beginning of the series.

Then the trailer jumped immediately to montages of Fallout-ish stuff, which is fine, but if you're going to go that route, give it some atmosphere/mood. Is it bleak and depressing? Is it darkly humorous? Gory? Channeling Sunset Overdrive? No idea, because it was just a bunch of images stuck together with no theme.

The only part that really got me intrigued/invested was the very ending with the PC greeting the dog, "let's go", and then the Fallout 4 logo. They could have played that angle up - here, this is you exploring the dangerous wasteland with your canine buddy, many adventures to be had... but that was it.

He's exactly right in saying that this trailer had almost zero substance - it was just a bunch of stuff. "It's Fallout! Here's a bunch of Fallout-ish stuff! Here's the War Never Changes speech! 50s music! Power armor!" Which, come to think of it, is basically what Fallout 3 was - a bunch of Fallout-ish stuff crammed together - but whatever.

But again, it's just a damn trailer. I think it's shit but I'm not particularly bothered by it, trailers are not necessarily representative of the final game. I'm just pointing out that it's not a very good trailer.

Analyse that as you wish.

If you listen to Bethesda Skyrim isn't even Gamebryo. But of course none of that is actually true. So.

Still looks like the same engine. If they ever coded something from scratch it would take them a LOT more time to reach the production phase, and the difference would be dramatic.

I think you're taking your video games a bit seriously

I'm astounded – after years of bullshots and publisher deception – that people are complaining about an actual trailer that shows the game in a feasible presentation that they would achieve in time for release.

This is potentially a huge open-world game, we find The Witcher struggling to maintain a steady fps due to its advanced graphics and presentation yet people are already comparing the two. I have no interest in Fallout – unfortunately – but it's quite annoying that there are so many complaints about the graphics.

The trailer not having any kind of date tells me right away that it IS coming out this year.

They know people have been speculating about that, so they'd want to get the 2016 news out of the way before their conference.

At least that's how I think.

It's not meant to dehumanize you. It's meant to say that you're an over reactive human that's being a total bummer for little to no reason. Which is exactly what you're being.

It's literally no different then someone saying "Hey, you're over reacting."
