Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

I mean...fuck, man. This just doesn't look good and feeds into the "was a cross gen game" rumor.

I think i'd rather an extended prologue rather than flashback gameplay bits

specially after playing The Witcher 3 and kinda dreading the Ciri parts gameplay-wise

these sort of games really oughta stay away from taking control away from your character or forcing you to play something detached to what you're enjoying about it, which tends to be playing as your character with your own shit

jfc we get it, you think it looks like shit, WE FUCKING GET IT.

calm down todd

This will be my first Fallout game.

So, the story from previous games matters? If so, can someone link me to a summary of Fallout world or explain in a few lines just to get the context?

Not really. The games usually talk about events of the previous games in passing and sometimes old characters would make a reappearance but there's nothing really to learn or prepare for this game.

I'm surprised that so many people are focusing on the graphics and not the awful animations that seem to be present in yet another Bethesda title. I hoped and prayed that this game would have some decent animations, but it looks like we're doomed to play in a world where everyone has stiff joints. Even the dogs. :(

It was mentioned too. Graphics, bad animations, all bring the overall product down. I know mods can fix a lot of things but it's still things we have to deal in the vanilal game.

Anyways, I remember being underwhelmed when I saw the first New Vegas screens. Having the same feeling now. I need more game details to bring my hype back up.

Fallout games are pretty much self-contained, but at the same time their stories are connected in tenuous ways, mostly through notes on old computers and the like reflecting canges in national policy, presidents, new technological breakthroughs and the like.

The lore is INCREDIBLE, to the point that it pains me nobody cared to make some good novels out of it. You can find a huge ass timeline here, but be prepared to waste your evening.

This is Bethesda as fuck.

[edit]

Bethesda must be using the same people that did the humans for Pixar in Toy Story.

Setting alone has me anticipating this greatly. I hope the belief that it comes out this fall is accurate. Even with a ton of games to play, this would be among the priorities. If they can emulate what Obsidian did well in New Vegas it could be a hell of a game.

Hey as an Elder Scrolls fan, maybe its a blessing that Fallout is first this generation. Maybe they figure out how to make beautiful graphics before TESVI.

If there were flashbacks I'd imagine them being a quest where your dog sniffs some old shit related to your past and your character starts daydreaming.

"I know these pyjamas" for instance.

It could just be the opening sequence. Something dramatic, like the first dragon in Skyrim.

Well I see a shit ton of rust in this picture.
fallout_4_screenshot_7_by_chabbles-d8vv0r3.png

We really haven't seen much of the game to really make that statement honestly.

The deathclaw area looked really cool with all that haze tho.

see i dont know if it's the colour choices, the rendering limitations, the art itself, or whatever else, but this image more or less personifies why nothing in the trailer jumps out to me.

it looks like it should be interesting, exciting, rich with detail, and stuff to explore. yet it doesn't. somehow with all the stuff in the scene it still looks boring, sterile, and completely missing the oppressive post-apocalyptic vibe the series is known for.

it's a scene full of assets that somehow looks flat and lifeless.

on the latter: hopefully

cause I don't wanna be all "I know these pyjamas--" with me going "nononononono I wanted to go get this gun ughhhhh" as it loads

Full chub, standing by.

I'm so pumped now. Graphics look a lot better, but I can tell that animations will still be damn stiff and they're still using their shitty engine. But it doesn't matter when the stories told entertain me for dozens of hours. Aww yiss. Mother. Fucking. Wasteland.

Yeah, that is... something. Unimpressive, definitely.

If the game is much wider in scope or persistence it could be worth some visual trade-offs. But yeah, that looks bad even for cross-gen.

That would be the lighting and shadows, I'm sure.

Half of those assets don't even know what the concept of light is.

I could give you a bible.

So.. it's really Elder Scrolls with mods, eh? lol

Thanks for the answer, guys... if it's really like Elder Scrolls I'm gonna get the grip. Never change, Beth.

it's lighting + shadows + the colors

I love colors, I really do. I hate piss filters

they just don't belong here to this level

some scenes look fine, but that last one really jumps out at me as just bad

They are a succesful developer with games that sold a lot, if they don't have the "most technically proficient devs" they can hire new.

Even indies with no budget are using physical based shaders to make their games better looking, Bethesda has no excuses.

Also the animations keep being stiff as the older games, I wonder if they actually use mocap at all.

I agree, but I'm not commenting on what they should or should not have done regarding their employment strategies, I'm simply making an observation and saying why I think the game looks the way it does.

Obviously I have to see the game in action but I'm left very underwhelmed on the visual front.

The character animations man...

I think Bethesda games you just have to play yourself, I remember not being excited by the Fallout 3 demo, nor the Skyrim one, but I loved both games. File under: "It doesn't show well."

This. The bright colors are really killing the atmospehere of the game.

Graphics dissapointed big time....lets hope this will get an upgrade instead of a downgrade like a lot of other games.

Really excited. I prefer the Fallout universe to the Elder Scrolls, and after playing Skyrim I really started wanting a "smoother" Fallout game. 3 and New Vegas have always felt a little janky to me (combat wise) so I've never sunk as much time into them as they might deserve.

I want the game on console, but after Skyrim on PS3 I'm not giving Bethesda my money on day one. It'll be hard, but I'm waiting for a GOTY edition, so I'll have a disc that hopefully won't contain a game that's broken without patches.

Graphically I couldn't give a shit. It's more colourful than 3 and New Vegas, though, which I'm loving. I'm happy that we saw this instead of a CGI trailer or some bullshots.

You can all keep shitting in my Cheerios and I'm just going to keep shoveling them into my mouth, filling out my shit-eating grin. Can't rain on this parade. Hell, some of the glitches from the past Fallout games just add to the charm and make the overall package better. I love me some floating NPCs.

It's awful.

Bethesda must think inverse kinematics is a rumour.

I used to scoff at the people blaming the engine but maybe there's some truth to that and the engine doesn't support inverse kinematics nor physical based rendering, that would explain a lot.

At this point I've just come to expect less than stellar graphics for Bethesda games. Luckily this is a non-issue for the PC crowd as the game will be heavily modded and look amazing.

Why do you feel threatened by other people's opinion?

Do you need validation of your hype?

This goes for a lot of people here too.

Lol i'm not threatened by other people's opinion, but i'm tired of seeing the same things being said over and over again by the same people. They already said they don't like it, that the trailer was underwhelming, that it's crap compared to game x,y,z. I'm trying to discuss the game but 50% of the posts are screenshot comparisons to every damn game there is. It's annoying.
