Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

Thank you. I'm sick of the "hur dur, we didn't know anything about her!" comments.

If you've actually been following the game since it's inception, we did have quite a lot of info on Stella, and she was easily the second most important character in the story, who was Noctis' direct rival. Not just some waifu. Seems they completely scrapped that plot line. Ugh.

I'm tired of it too.

And I'm trying to stay hyped but Stella's character/story was what I was most interested in for the game.

Who gives a fuck about Stella?

Why the hell isn't Nojima writing this? Why? Why? Why?
They never really gave a reason for why he's gone unfortunately. They're still in contact with him and basing the story on his original draft at least

Versus XIII was first shown in 2006. Nine years later, it's still not out and it won't even make an appearance at e3.

Ehl oh ehl

Well you're talking about a game that doesn't exist. XV development started just a couple of years back, from the scraps of a failed project that was once called Versus XIII.

Just think of it as a brand new game with the development time it needs, not as a project that started in 2006. It makes sense that way.

That sux she looked to be most interesting character in versus/XV.

I was thinking that the game story will be based on Noctis-Stella romance where diffrent cirmutances put them as opponents later.

I'm afraid they are going for as generic game as possible to make sure fans arn't pissed about everything.

Came to the thread for Elaine gifs and I leave satisfied.

For people who missed it, i'll repost it once so the same posts dont keep getting repeated asking why people are upset, and being dismissive of "waifu characters" which is in itself pretty ignorant to be saying for any character.

Why do we care that blonde girl A is replaced with blonde girl B when we know nothing about either of them.

For people who keep posting this kind of thing, we actually know quite a bit about stella added up from the trailers and the information given out about her over the years, even if we don't know about how the story went exactly with her in it.

So for changing her in the story, it actually represents a fairly big shift in the direction of the game's overally design.

The entire point of the name "Versus" was because Stella and Noctis were supposed to be two complete opposite forces, like their respective Kingdoms, and they were supposed to likely duel over love and battle.

It was essentially a romeo and juliet type story where they meet at a party, she keeps her identity a secret and ended up being an agent for the other side even though she and Noctis shared the exact same situations of near death experiences, having the same power, and responsibilities to their Kingdom.

In changing her, they are essentially taking out that Versus element of her character, and thereby changing the entire point of the game. They are no longer going to be forced to fight each other, she will be relegated to looking pretty only, and probably not do much if the recent trailers indicate anything.

Its a shame for female representation and the actual interesting dynamics of not just fighting enemies.

Thank you. I'm sick of the "hur dur, we didn't know anything about her!" comments.

Yes, its a shame. And to think Kagari even knew about this for months, no wonder she was pessemistic

As least black haired lady is still in.

However, does this mean they may move away from the Shakespearean vibe? I hope not.

It's okay the female Dragoon is still in though.

This is literally the only character I care about in the game so far, so I'm still happy.

Edit: Don't know why it took me so long to realize the night sky theme in names. The star is replaced by the moon, it seems.

Argh.

Having a good scriptwriter was like the main reason I was hyped for this. Instead I get the Dissidia writer.

Luna's a "damsel in distress" now?

FFXV has been in development hell for almost a decade and we still know absolutely nothing about the story. For all we know the original story wasn't even complete and all of the characters died from leprosy.

Them changing a character into another character should have zero bearing on anyone's perceptions about FFXV. We're still going in completely blind.

I posted this in the other thread, but can you imagine if FF9 had a long production cycle and fans were given a drip-feed of info about it? Princess <X> was changed into a character named "Dagger". "Oh no, the game's ruined! That name is so dumb, this is a disaster!"

Save your judgement for the final product.

That first paragraph is chock-full of 'filling in the blanks'. They never actually stated any of that, that was just what (some) people expected it to be like.

The second paragraph is just ridiculous because we don't know anything about the new character.

It's a little weird if you think about it: why would they introduce a character with a similar design (Luna), when there was literally no fucking information on Stella? Why not name the girl of the last trailer Stella and say it was her? Who would notice? Who would care? I don't get these kind of things.

Edit: Ooooh I've read what Inuhanyou posted. I still think that was very little information but ok.

People who say this will be a mess are missing the fact that what they are doing is exactly what you do to avoid a mess. As Tabata said, they wanted a coherent story without compromises, some part of the original story didn't work with what the game has become (an actual game and not just cool trailers) so they changed them.

I'm not going to convince anyone to change their minds, people will be mad for whatever reasons. I just hope Tabata will be able to succeed like Yoshida did with FFXIV (despite everybody laughing at the possibility of saving a failed MMORPG). I think his attitude is what this game needed, take unpopular decisions but get the job done.

Honestly, if you thought the story of a game originally helmed by Nomura (see Kingdom Hearts) passed to Tabata (who directed and came up with Type0, the mess of a story that was) was going to be good, you are probably too optimistic.

Lightning doesn't look so bad now, does she GAF? Praying for FFXIII-4 @ this point
Hardly. Lightning is a different sort of offensive. She's presented as a "strong female character" but nobody wrote an actual cohesive character for her. So instead we had a "badass" with schizophrenic and nonsensical development in 13, to being a 'badass' with inexplicably mysterious lamely unresolved presence in 13-2, to retread of the character arc of 13 except with more loli and even less sense in LR.

You have no clue how any of that would have panned out nor how much of that is still retained in the final version.

There still very well might be a Romeo/Juliet plot angle or whatever.

All the female characters shown so far in this game look meh honestly.

With the male character you seem to have more variety in ages and such, while the female characters were basically eye candy.

Argh.

Having a good scriptwriter was like the main reason I was hyped for this. Instead I get the Dissidia writer.

Who tells the new one will do a bad job? Nojima did write his fair share of shit too.

Also, I think the FF series needs new blood. Just look what "new blood" did to FFXIV.

Matsuno was removed from FFXII because he was a control freak who wanted development on an FF to be the director's "dictatorship" rather than the team's "democracy" (his words, not mine). Even a smaller-scale project like Vagrant Story was a huge mess with lots of delays and cancelled features and literally 50% of the story scrapped because of his incompetence.

At the same time he's still the best JRPG story writer.

This game...wow. At this point, people just want to play this to see how much of a train wreck it is. I mean, when you make the rest of the AAA development industry look like a great landscape of super high tier development...you have fucked up.

I also do not believe the no sequel talk. NEVER believe "no sequel" talk. This is video games people.

There definitely will be sequel, just because of development cost needing some recoup. Tabata is saying a self-contained story within FFXV with potential sequel loosely connected.

Ugh. I was already just starting to accept the no female party(and that was just barely) but now they're not even using Stella? I really liked her early design.
I mean

-All male party
-Messy writer change
-No strong female characters, are the summons all male too? Poor Shiva :(

This game is shaping up to be a mess
PREACH

I'll pretend the second part doesn't exist because I know you have good taste. <3

We'll see but that resume isn't giving me a lot of hope right now.

And a different story too, Luna is just not Stella with different hair, she is a completely new character.

I said once that FFXV was slowly evolving into something else from VersusXIII, even if they are not big changes, they still can impact the tone of the game, and gameplay of course.

Wasn't her the face of ffxv together with noctis?

Removing her implies a HUGE story change imo, after all ffxv looked like a romeo & juliet x final fantasy, now the game looks more like a bro road movie.

Honestly already when someone said that ffxv was like a road movie i felt that something was not right...

That someone would be Nomura. It was still called Versus XIII when he first said this.

For people who missed it, i'll repost it once so the same posts dont keep getting repeated asking why people are upset, and being dismissive of "waifu characters" which is in itself pretty ignorant to be saying for any character.

I agree that we did know a bit about Stella, but I disagree that Luna seems completely unimportant based on recent trailers, this makes no sense to me.

Relegated to looking pretty? What is this bullshit? Did you finish Episode Duscae and watched the teaser at the end?

http://i.imgur.com/BxIWcP8.jpg I won't use tags because people might consider it a spoiler, but how in the world would you interpret that as "Lunafreya is relegated to look pretty only"

She doesn't seem to have the same role as Stella, you're right about that, but it's hard to dismiss people calling "waifu crying" when you attack her replacement for no reason other than being pissed because the "totally not waifu" was removed.

People who say this will be a mess are missing the fact that what they are doing is exactly what you do to avoid a mess. Agreed. I love Nomura, but as far as I'm concerned, Tabata saved this game.

Yeah, seriously.

Yup. I am not really bothered by whatever new information we got today. I am still optimistic.

There definitely will be sequel, just because of development cost needing some recoup. Tabata is saying a self-contained story within FFXV with potential sequel loosely connected.

Yeah based on Tabata's comments Versus's story seemed to be built from the ground up to span multiple games. XV being a single cohesive story with a half-assed sequel a few years later a la X-2 and XIII-2 isn't the same thing

Please dont put Vanille in the same sentence of ANYTHING lol. Fang was pretty cool though.

I liked Vanille :S

She was a lying bitch, but she could be fun and cared for the party. Lightning was a grumpy soldier at the beginning, a grumpy big sister in the middle, and piece of grumpy furniture in the end. Even Vaan in FFXII had more protagonism than her.

All the budget and workforce was shifted to releasing FF13 then to the FF14 rescue. What Nomura could do with a skeleton crew?

This. Forever.

I wouldn't worry too much about the story being that crazily altered. Okay yeah they replace stella with luna and the party scene isn't there. However Tabata reiterated they were debating on greatly changing it collapsing it into one game, but in the end they did not and left the story pretty close to the original vision.

If anything I'm more nervous about what they did to Noctis's warp strike animation: It went from being a cool forward lunge with cape physics to him looking like he's tossing out candy.

Agreed with all of this.
