Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Wow, really? I love Saltspray Rig. :o

Yeah
-In both modes it has overly long pathways at the start where the enemy's can't reach outside of an inkstrike. Going through this everytime you respawn is incredibly boring since there almost always won't be any turf to cover. In addition, it's an annoying place for the enemies to camp in Turf Wars.
-It's easy to fall off of by accident which can be frustrating. The Arowana Mall has spots you can fall off of, but there you feel just stupid doing it. Here it feels a lot more frustrating for some reason.
-I hate the sniper playstyle and this leans too much towards that with the sniper spots in ranked mode
-The sniper tower is also one level too high, making it near impossible to take out with a roller unless they're stupid and don't realize you're coming after them. If they realize you're down there, they will almost always kill you first.
-Also in ranked mode, the zone has too many things in it. This makes dynamo rollers very, very shitty.
-There's also the bottom and top parts of the map for people to grind out for specials in ranked, which can be annoying.

Overall I just find it to be a frustrating map, partially because of my playstyle but largely because of the way its designed as well.

Warehouse > rig > mall > skatepark > pass for turf wars (have not played on port yet)

Warehouse > port > pass > rig > skatepark >>>>>>>>>>>>>> mall for splat zones

best: Saltspray, Warehouse
decent: Underpass, Skatepark, Port
worst: Mall

Why do people hate the mall so much?

I don't actually think there is a bad map in the bunch. Each one has good bits and is fun to play on. The maps with ramps that you need to squid up can be annoying for rollers due to how slow it can be to paint them if you need to go up but that's more a limit of the weapon rather than a flaw of the map.

The aerospray takes 5-6 hits to kill in a game where most weapons kill in 1-2 hits. I think it's fine. Aerospray users already have to put in work to get close to people using the large number of weapons with much larger ranges.
They take the least amount of time of non-OHKO weapons to kill though due to that amazing DPS.

God you never realize how useful the quick respawn ability is until you replace it with a piece of equipment that doesn't have it. The wait to respawn can be agonizingly slow sometimes, especially when during the last 10 seconds of the match

Have gear with two QRs on it, then switch off.

For me it's that part in the middle, you either get splatted by a sniper at 100 different spots, get weird combat in the middle or try to jank your way up somewhere and then get stuck in one pixel of enemy ink.

I like most of the maps and agree with your overall sentiment that there isn't any awful maps, but I dont care for how the mall is all centered around that tiny square of land. I hate it in ranked. And the areas that are above the square territory are too small, so either you are in that tiny square in a clusterfuck of ink, or you are in the little rafters fighting in a tiny space.

For me it's that part in the middle, you either get splatted by a sniper at 100 different spots, get weird combat in the middle or try to jank your way up somewhere and then get stuck in one pixel of enemy ink.

It's the only map where everything is focused on a tiny % of land, and you either fall on each side leading up to it, or you have the tiny rafters above the land that are also really small space wise.

I hate this map for ranked mode.

Wow, really? I love Saltspray Rig. :o

I'm kind of curious what the general consensus is here, for which map is the best/worst (or more so, least favorite, most favorite).

Aight I guess I can do this before I turn in for the night.

God Tier: Saltspray
Great Tier: Mackerel, Underpass
Pretty Okay Tier: Blackbelly
Meh Tier: Walleye
If I Don't Get A Good Team For This I Will Despair Tier: Arowana

I can imagine it's a pain as a low range bubble boy but actually once you learn the angles it's fine. I've found some spots you can spray ink from with high ranged rifles that are hard for snipers to deal with. Remember they need to take over the zone, I basically just outspray the opponent and give my teammates room to find frags.

I love how overprepared I am for the campaign after playing so much multiplayer. I'm breezing through the game at a crazy pace. Just completed the fourth zone.

Port is awkward in turf with the stupid forklift things, annoying in ranked because massive distance between things requires a team to pretty much dominate everything to take control.
Underpass and Saltspray have clunky early sections that make it really annoying to get anywhere if the team can't handle staying alive/not being mobbed by the enemies. Haven't played Saltspray ranked so I don't know what that's like, but too many people wander around in turf and everyone seems to be incredibly disorganized in it.
Mall is annoying in turf because it's hard to move between all the things and that center bit is super awkward, doesn't seem as annoying in ranked.
Skatepark and Warehouse are aight in both modes.

Do you like the Dual Squelcher better than the custom w/ Kraken? I'm thinking of making this my main for ranked.

I haven't really experimented that much, I've only really got as far as "I really like Echolocator" :-)

As a little aside, something that struck me:

I think we'd have seen the "ROLLERS ARE OP!" phase last a lot longer if Port Mackerel was one of the initial five maps. It's really well-suited for sneaky roller play.

Now this is a list!

Interesting you like Skatepark so much. I have fun with it in turf wars, but ranked it can go either way. Because Skatepark is so centralized, once a team has it on lockdown for 45 seconds or more, it feels like the match is over. It becomes one of the more frustrating maps. Whereas even a closed in map like Port Mackerel, the distance between both capture points allows for more of a come back as the dominating team can't always be everywhere at once and has to split up.

Skate park and the Mall both have the problem of a team dominating and keeping that domination locked down once it happens w/ little hope of coming back (ranked mode that is).

Life of us low-range users is hard in general, but we try our hardest, we try our hardest damnit ;_;

The middle of the map is too small and if you're playing against any team with a sniper they can perch in plain sight and the only way to sneak around them is to paint and swim up the small wall in the middle of the map. And any good sniper will be able to hit you before you're able to do all that.

And that's if there isn't someone already on top of that wall or in that hallway painting. Which is a pretty big if considering the only ways to the other side of the map are through there or on that middle hump.

It's not a horrible map, but it's definitely the one that has the most limited amount of strategy.

Is it too much to expect :

1) Being able to play with a friend at home online?

2) Bigger maps with a 4v4v4v4 mode or something like that?

Both would be so much fun. I'd love to be able to play with my girlfriend online at least.

Mine:

Turf Wars
1. Walleye Warehouse
2. Saltspray Rig
3. Blackbelly Skatepart
4. Port Mackerel
5. Urchin Underpass
6. Arowana Mall (all good though, just the least good)

Splat Zones
1. Saltspray Rig
2. Urchin Underpass
3. Blackbelly Skatepark
4. Arowana Mall
5. Walleye Warehouse (sort of dislike this one but maybe its because I was being too agressive)
X. Port Mackerel - Yet to Play

I think I'll close in for the night. I really have to wake up early tomorrow. But went from level 13 to 16 and from Rank C- to C+ again so I'd say that's some good progress.

Loved this game and it's not getting the least bit tiring.

2) Bigger maps with a 4v4v4v4 mode or something like that?

Oh man, this'd be amazing. I really hope they go all-out with (preferably) free modes. Put them in rotation if you feel it may split the userbase too much.

4v4v4v4 are you insane?!?!?!?

Framerate for both.
