Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

I swear I'm like the only guy online that paints walls.

I mean, no it doesn't seem to give as much points as the ground but it does give points. :D

i'm pretty sure those points you are getting is cause you are accidently hitting the ground.

OT name should have been walls don't count.

I haven't get a chance to try the ink brush yet(working today), but it sounds like it's being judged pretty harshly - as a crappy weapon - before people had the chance to find the proper play-style(or mode, as more are on the way).

It reminds me of the roller-rollercoaster. First it was "too OP" based on the couple test-fire sessions. Then once people got a bit more experienced with the final game, they considered it "garbage." Now, and more accurately, it's simply a fearsome weapon in the right hands.

So far, based on early impressions, the brush seems perfect for 'disruption play'. Sounds adept at easily getting behind enemy lines, keeping them annoyed and occupied while your teammates cover more turf or claim zones. Even its sub and special(sprinkler & ink strike I heard) caters to disruption, while you are able to stay out of conflict.

It would take really skilled brush-play to consistently get over a 1000 pts in turt war, but it could be one of those weapons that leads your team to victory time and time again(perfect for ranked!), at the expense of sacrificing your own points(only an issue for turf wars) since you'd play as mostly a decoy.

Has anyone yet found success with this weapon, or see themselves excelling at it in the near future?

People are judging it based on their ability or the points earned by their teammates, when the thing has been available for less than a day and most people are still figuring it out. I've been able to get 1000-1100 fairly consistently and will be sticking with it.

It benefits from ink recovery, ninja squid, kid/squid speed up, def. up, and/or ink efficiency up in some combination. For offense, you need to get in fast and close and be aggressive, pounding ZR. Attacking from above also helps a lot.

Ok, got to play quite a bit today but just now I got disconnected in the middle of a match about six times in a row. I'm not picking up this shit again until Nintendo does something, I'm fuckin' pissed.

P.S. I've tried everything on my end, and yes I'm on a wired connection.

And yet, if it happens during matches six times a row, the problem is probably on your end. Have played around 20 matches today without any connection issues, and actually connecting to lobbies feels faster today than it usually is. It's a pity that all players get the same online experience.

By now, I'm pretty sure you're the only person playing this game that still believes this. If this was still launch week, I would understand...but bruh.

Everyone's talking about the inkbrush. When is it unlocked? I'm on 14 or 15 I think.

EDIT: Just did a google search. Had no idea Nintendo just gave it to us. Awesome.

The content itself is pretty meh.

Mainly interested in the minigames lol, Squid Jump is getting boring. Schoolgirl outfit looks nice as well. If only they wouldn't lose so much value, the question is if they're still going to be rare in one or two months. I assume the squid is going to stay more scarce than the girl, at least in Europe.

Squid will stay scarce for NA players. No way that 3 bundle is restocking any time soon.

Amiibo experts - how much would I regret opening my squid or inkling girl?

None of the Amiibo outfits are particularly best at anything (unless you buff them) but stylistically they look fresh. I'll say that Squidball is a much more fun mini game to play in the waiting lobby. Squid Beats is pretty dull and is just a glorified sound test.

It's really frustrating because it's inconsistent. I had far less disconnects when the game first came out, and I got to level 17 but now it's just becoming a huge problem. I don't have this problem with any other game including other Wii U games, so I want to believe there is something Nintendo can do...pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Yup it's like people judging a Dota hero by some randoms' crappy performance

I've seen GAFfers, randoms and myself doing consistently well with it, and that's just on the first day. There are two major issues though: against laggers and high latency Japanese you often won't even get a double splat because some slashes that look like hits on your end are registered as whiffs by the server; and matchmaking regularly putting together the most ridiculous team compositions. Bringing the Pablo to ranked is essentially a coin flip at this point.

Not all abilities have diminishing returns if this post is to be believed.

Some others have posted their test results in this sub. However, I wasn't entirely happy how they did their testing, so I made my own.

In these tests, I used the Splattershot Jr, because it's the first weapon available.

Ink Saver (Main):

•no abilities = you can shoot for ~17 seconds straight
•1x as Main ability = you can shoot for ~19.2 seconds straight
•2x as Main ability = you can shoot for ~21.5 seconds straight
•3x as Main ability = you can shoot for ~23.5 seconds straight
•1x as Sub ability = you can shoot for ~18 seconds straight
•2x as Sub ability = you can shoot for ~18.7 seconds straight
•3x as sub ability = you can shoot for ~19.5 seconds straight

Conclusion:

Each main Ink Saver increases the ink amount by ~10% and each sub ink saver increases the ink amount by ~5%. No diminishing returns.

Ink Recovery Up:

•no abilities = refill from empty to full takes ~3.5seconds
•1x as Main ability = refill takes ~3.0 seconds
•2x as Main ability = refill takes ~2.75 seconds
•3x as Main ability = refill takes ~2.5 seconds
•1x as Sub ability = refill takes ~3,25 seconds
•2x as Sub ability = refill takes ~3.15 seconds
•3x as sub ability = refill takes ~3.0 seconds

Conclusion:

First ink refill main ability shortens the time by ~15%, after that it drops to ~7.5% First ink refill as a sub ability shortens the time by ~7.5%, after that it drops to ~3.75%.

Special Charge Up:

•no abilities = Special gaige takes 180 points to build up.
•1x as Main ability = 168 points
•2x as Main ability = 156 points
•3x as Main ability = 146 points
•1x as sub ability = 176 points
•2x as sub ability = 172 points
•3x as sub ability = 168 points

Conclusion:

Each main special charge up removes 6.66% from the required amount while each sub ability removes 2.22% from the required amount. No diminishing returns.

Special Saver:

•no abilities = you lose 50% of the amount of special gauge you had before you died.

•1x as main ability = you lose 37,5%
•2x as main ability = you lose 25%
•3x as main ability = you lose 12.5%
•1x as sub ability = you lose 43.75%
•2x as sub ability = you lose 37.5%
•3x as sub ability = you lose 31.25%

Conclusion:

Each main special saver recovers +12.5% of your special gauge while sub special saver recovers +6.25%. No diminishing returns.

Is GAF heavy on ranked? I'm looking for folks to play with and to improve my rank and skills with throughout the week.
Thing is unless you manage sniping each other through matchmaking you can't play ranked with friends. We don't even know if the August update is going to support team ranked play or just splat zones in custom lobbies.

Nope. Wall don't count

i'm pretty sure those points you are getting is cause you are accidently hitting the ground.

I'm starting to regret the title I voted for.

By now, I'm pretty sure you're the only person playing this game that still believes this. If this was still launch week, I would understand...but bruh.

Ooooook, now I feel like a dumb shit.

Good to know though. :lol

Also, I only played a handful of online matches so far, I was mostly focused on the single player mode so far. :P

Well something important to note is that everything seen from above counts towards points, so what you see on the Gamepad's map. That includes the top of platforms, ledges, containers etc, which sometimes get overlooked. A tree doesn't count, however it's still fun to splat a tree just because.

Walls don't count, but you get points by painting walls previously painted by the opponent team's color.
We don't even know if the August update is going to support team ranked play or just splat zones in custom lobbies.
Afaik it won't and that is fine. Coordinated teams playing against randoms would be extremely unfair.

It's often a good idea to paint them for hiding and traversing though ;] I've gotten some sneaky kills by hiding in walls.

not if it's own lobby. and you can't join in by yourself

It could require you be in a team of 4 pre-lobby.

Not being in a party of 4 makes you unable to play in team rank

Problem solved

The content isn't patched in. It's on disk and unlocks.
Oh! I assumed the update I got when I popped it in was for the latest mode unlock. That's...a little odd, then? I can maybe see what they're going for in that case, but I still don't like it. I'd much prefer just letting us loose with all the maps on the disk from the get go.
DON'T AIM AT THE FLOOR!

the ink falls down in front of you.

B-but muh OCD :(

The only reason I aim at the ground is so I cover the entire area. Shooting straight ahead seems to leave a lot of little spots untouched and I'd assume they'd build up. The few times I did try just shooting ahead we lost horribly.

After this negativity I should point out that I am really enjoying the game, but some of the decisions Nintendo have made are really boneheaded to me. Never been a fan of how the handle the online portions of their games.

Just beat the game last night. I'll toss my name into the hat about how awesome it was. One my favorite boss fights ever. Probably one of the most memorable fights in a Nintendo game. I'll put it up there with fighting Bowser the first time in Mario 64.

Also not sure if it's been discussed, but the credits were amazing too. Felt very...."Pixar-like"

Agreed! The final boss was awesome!

I am loving the inkbrush. During the first few matches it seemed weak, but then i started using its speed to open ink roads for my team and the swipes to quickly paint the ground; i get 1000+ points constantly.

The speed is awesome to flank enemies, you just have to be careful and try to get on their sides or back. Facing them frontally will put you at a disadvantage very often.

The brush is hilarious!

I find myself laughing hysterically at people zipping around and swinging it. Made a killing off people experimenting with it though lol

I actually ran into one guy who was pretty good with the brush. You really have to outhink your opponent and ambush.

I'll stick to my beloved Aerospray RG though.

Yeah it's hilarious watching a brush player attack. Like frantically trying to swat a bee or something.

So I decided to try ranked for the first time. I'd been planning to wait till 20 but I decided i just wanted to see the other game mode. I'm only 12 right now but all you need is that Kraken rite?

Got into the newbie C- lobby and I've won like 10 games in a row now lol. This is awesome, almost always knockouts so it's quick and great cash. I'm already C and it's still loading all C- dudes into my games. How long will it keep doing this? Will I eventually get bumped up to more appropriate opponents? Can I ride this lobby to 20 in the next few hours?
