Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

port is such utter SHIT in ranked how fucking HIGH do you have to be to think that's acceptable splat zone placement

people just fucking rushing towards the enemy zone one by one, 24/7, first team to get wiped loses even if the enemy only gets a single point because no two zones will ever be taken again

almost mall tier in its idiocy, which makes playing ranked pretty damn tough with only four other maps on two rotation slots

Oh! I assumed the update I got when I popped it in was for the latest mode unlock. That's...a little odd, then? I can maybe see what they're going for in that case, but I still don't like it. I'd much prefer just letting us loose with all the maps on the disk from the get go.

The update was a patch for the Spyke/Judd glitch and the frame rate in the lobby.

The recent NintendoLife interview with the Splatoon producer Hisashi Nogami talks a bit about the philosophy behind the rolled-out content:

Brush vs brush is hilarious. It's like two people who don't know how to fight flailing at each other. I always win though, I got that windmill technique down. ;)

It's not a bad weapon like some first impressions might imply. You need to be sneaky with it. If you go head-on against anything, especially guns, you're at a disadvantage. You have to go around back or distract them with the sprinkler. If I'm on the winning team I'll get above 1000 easy, with a positive K/D. Paint large areas with the swishes, "roll" to travel to another large area quickly. If you're painting corridors, swish and dip, repeat.

Also the obligatory: If the weapon was already on the disc I would have enjoyed it more if I could use it from the beginning.

Not sure why you're so upset at ranked Port. It's fantastic. The first minutes really turn into a stalemate because of how hard it is to capture the enemy zone. Using the little halls to create openings and trying to coordinate an attack through both sides also not rushing in and getting your defense ready.
One of my favourite maps for sure. But *shrugs* I like all of them.

With a bad team it is literally impossible to win though but that's not a flaw, hell I'd say it' speaks highly of it.

To be honest, I think it's one of the better ones for splat zones.

I understand their reasoning for delaying its release though. It's a very specialized weapon that takes experience with the game to see its potential uses. I actually appreciate this approach of gradually releasing modes and weapons to give as many people a chance as possible to get comfortable with the game before changing things up a bit.

Alright, I've been in enough Ranked matches where Paint Brush was used effectively that I now accept they are a really serious weapon to be afraid of, even in combat.

Nice to see some positive brush impressions coming in. I just love how each weapon requires the right play-style to be fully appreciated. It's goes far beyond the usual "sniper vs sub-machine gun" differences - for example - that most shooters are known for. There're so many elements involved in order to truly master anything beyond the splatter shots.

The more I play, the more I see how much thought and effort went into every weapon, sub, special, and gear effects. I'm sure some other weapons will begin to shine once more modes are made available. Hats of to the dev team. Incredible design talent on display here!

can you run people over with the brush?

Nope. You actually bounce off them if you try lol

Impressions were mixed last night, since no one had an idea how to get a handle on it, especially in combat scenarios. But already a half day later, people are using this weapon in insane ways in ranked. I've seen people with brushes use it aggressively in head on combat scenarios. It's crazy. People figured brush would be a niche scenario weapon, but I'm seeing it used as any other main.

paint brush + ninja squid can be straight up frightening

Oddly, I've actually seen less stealth with brush, and people using these aggressively in head on combat. The Brush allows you to speed run into the side of someone and start waving that damn brush side to side in front of someone's face.

It's madness. It gets even crazier if you see in a confined space trying to hold a territory and there is already people fighting in it. Then in comes paint brush dude waving that shit around in an already chaotic situation.

yeah I'll see that but I faced an opponent who did that but would then just squid the hell out of there when I opened fire and swam into the smallest most inconspicuous patch of ink and ambushed me when I walked by.

I'm probably only seeing the end result of an attack. You are portably right and they were using stealth perks. But I've seen people legit just run into a territory (not swimming but using the brushes roll), and then just start attacking head on. And they actually win!

they're so quick and in your face that it's easy to get overwhelmed but they're not that hard to take down if you keep your wits about you. but with no swim ripples.....yeah fuck that.

I think their aggressive speed run attack only works if you are in an already chaotic area (like a small territory capture point with everyone flinging ink). But you are right. Keep your wits man! They can be stopped!

Morning all, jumping on for some GAF matches now, if there are any. Probably gonna try practicing up my dynamo roller a bit as I'd really like to get better at it for ranked matches.

Finally feel like I'm able to clutch more and make a difference even if my team isn't doing the best. All about holding choke points.

Good games billy, but there is too much rollers in your lobby x)
I want to be a good one but I feel I learn nothing by fighting other rollers.

Still can't get it to work without getting disconnected every match. Yesterday I got to level 6 just fine over a few hours, but now it's completely rubbish.

I kinda want my money back, as I've tried everything to fix the problem. My last ditch effort is ordering a USB Ethernet connector.
