Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Alright, ya, I am definitely likely the Cold Blooded trait.

From my tests it reduces the affects of Echolocator and other marker-type abilities by about half, which means that Echolocator barely stays on you for more than five seconds, making you incredibly hard to track with the skill and rendering a weapon's entire special effectively useless. Ninja Squid does NOT do this, and while it makes it hard to see you moving in ink, Echolocator is so prevalent and quick to charge that a lot of the time you will be seen even with Ninja.

I really hope at some point Nintendo adds a mode where kills contribute to points.

Of course, with this game there has to be some area-inking, so I was thinking something like Control from Destiny would work really well with this game.

Basically there'd be 3 "zones" to capture by splatting them, but what gets you points are kills. What the zones do is increase the points awarded for kills.

For example if your team has two zones, kills score 20 points each, while the the other team (who have only 1 zone captured) only get 10 points per kill. Then the match is over when a team reaches ___ points.

I think it would be fun anyways

WAIT THE FUCKING WALLS DON'T COUNT!???!!!??

AHHHH WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING WITH MY LIFEEEE

Painting the walls like the beautiful artistic snowflake that you are.

Honestly, unless you got the random message from Judd saying they don't count, only way you'd notice is if you looked at your points as you inked them up.

Wow, just decimated this team in ranked. 100 to 0 w/ no interruptions.

I saw a Paint Brush guy flail around and he fell out of the level into the water. It was glorious.

I just can't get the brush to work well for me. I see some guys beasting with it but it's just not clicking. I'll probably try it some more at a later time.

I really hope at some point Nintendo adds a mode where kills contribute to points.

Your kills already contribute to points, in the sense that killing them makes them explode into ink of your color, netting points.

I think the strength of this game is the fact that it's not all about your K/D. Getting kills and avoiding deaths is extremely useful but it's not the end-all-be-all.

Honestly it's about time selfish players like that got punished from a shooter's game mechanics.

I hope they add lots more modes so it'd be fun, but it'd still be low on my list or desired modes.

Attack/Defense Payload, Attack/Defense Zones, Control Points (like Team Fortress, both teams attack but points closer to the enemy base unlock as you cap nearby points, and there's a cooldown.), Capture The Flag (whoever has the flag can't swim in ink)...

It'd be awesome if they keep adding things to the game, even if they may want to leave some stuff for Spla2on.

This is the quote from the guide for Cold Blooded:
This ability is restricted to clothing and shortens the effect of position-tracking attacks substantially. Point Sensor is reduced from 10 to 2.5 seconds. Echolocator and Haunt are reduced from 12 to 3 seconds. So if you prefer to remain hidden, Cold Blooded may be the ability for you. This ability is restricted to clothing as a main ability.

It's really good.
Surprised I don't see it used all that much.

So 8x Inkbrush in those matches!

Team Splatmatch

Ninja Squid is just so good.

I'm going to switch weapons. I still need to learn inkbrush. It felt like some of the hits weren't connecting at melee range.

Just played a ranked match in the mall where I placed a beacon on a platform that's mostly ignored by the enemy team (in their base). A friend jumps to it and instantly dies, but there's no enemy ink around, and I get confused.

I then jump to my own beacon and realize that it's above a grate and if you hold squid you fall instantly, heh. At least we still won!

Team Splatmatch

Teams with only Scouts get decimated, heh. But really, I just want more modes to see how the ink mechanic matters. Longer maps with more points or multiple levels would be neat, even adding another layer to the map (Swipe it up and down to change levels and see where is splatted or not).

Really looking forward to Tower Control.

Haha, just played a ranked match where everyone from the other team disconnected and so our whole team spent 2 minutes dancing around on the zone and spamming Booyah.

Back to C+, neat.

Going for some turf now, who should I add/join?

Kills don't factor in the ranking, why does it matter? (As in, there's no bonus if you're in first in Splat Zones)
Now if they ranked individually that's a different matter, though I think capping still matters more.

For the same reason the poster I responded to had. Recognition that you played an important role in the match and a feeling of satisfaction even though you have zero kills. Plus I just like stat tracking and its one of the main things I want added in

Okay that's it, I'm 100% in love with Paint Brush. People are so awful with this thing in ranked, it's easy kills/dominating the other team.

Oh wow that's even better, holy crap is it fast acting. I've gotten a jacket with it, and I am likely to stick to it because it is great not having to worry about Echolocator.

Ah, I think stat tracking should be in, yeah.

I also agree with you that they should show a bit more on performance - maybe like a 50p bonus if you have a part in contesting a zone. Even in matches where I don't get a lot of kills I'm setting up beacons or closing enemy paths. It'd be good to have those shown, at least somewhere. I just don't think the direct single-game ranking matters much, but that may just be me.

So does anyone have a high score in squid jump? I'm curious how my points stack up to others.

Didn't count the score but reached level 18, I think. I don't play it that much though, only enough to know that Starfish suck.

I bought the game today and I feel so stupid now that I know that the walls don't count.

And is there any strategy for playing with the charger? I tried it for 10 matches but I sucked.

Though walls don't count, if you have a moment to spare, ink walls that provide access to higher ground. Just do it in a manner where you are not wasting too much time on such side tasks. Even if you don't intend to go up immediately, your teammates would appreciate the newly available path. Also, you want to keep as many possibilities as possible open, cause you never know when you or your teammates may need to make a desperate escape from danger.

For chargers, don't charge every shot. Rapid-fire to quickly ink tight areas, while squiding forward often to replenish your ink. Keep your eye peeled for opportunities to blast a long strip. Positioning is key, especially for large open areas where you generally want to find a rhythm; charge, blast, sidestep...charge blast side step.

Remember to utilise your sub weapons and specials, especially once you get access to sprinklers*, and ink strike*. Those two will greatly aid chargers in turf war.

That's just it. I will go for the kills by first throwing disruptor then moving behind them or just throw it to get them to back off and then go in. I guess I need way more practice with it.

Only use the disruptor if they don't already see your or if you're positioned in such a way that they can't hit you. Otherwise it's not worth using and the time you spend throwing it could be better spent damaging them.

The only opponent that's it's worth it to disrupt even when they can see you are rollers, because a slow roller is a sitting duck. Even then, that's not always the best choice, you gotta be able to read the situation well.

WAIT THE FUCKING WALLS DON'T COUNT!???!!!??

Everyone who voted for the current OT title, this is part where you feel bad.

I seriously see this a lot too. They really should have done a better job in the tutorial explaining walls don't count. I mean, I know people should see the pt. meter isn't going up when hitting the walls. But it's a problem, since enough are going a while before realizing they don't count.

Wow I never thought of it that way. Damn this game is more well thought-out than I thought

Killing someone should be seen as "removing" them from the area, thus allowing you to spread your ink unchallenged. In Turf, it removes them from the map and sets them back substantially as you gain more ground. In Splat Zones, it delays them from getting back to the spot while your meter runs down.

Should be more about removing them from the map, more then anything.

Yeah, it's a VERY tight game design. I think the best part of it is that killing people is really beneficial because it stops them from inking temporarily. That's the main benefit, and it's already a huge one so there's really not a good reason to add points on top of it. Basically instead of netting you points, it stops THEM from getting points.

So it's all good :) Kill to your heart's content, but just be sure you're inking too.

Azure J how on earth do I enter you into my friend list? I can't select space to type your name at all and you don't show up on searches with hyphens. What kind of voodoo did you use to get a name with a space in it?

My NNID is AzureJay89. :lol

At the moment I'm not playing though, brother wanted his fix.

Yeah it's why I don't mind getting killed a lot of the time as long as I take one of them with me. There have been parts where the team is being stopped by someone around a corner or over a hill, so I like to rush in, we kill each other, and my teammates clean up and move forward. The best part is I can jump right to them afterward

My new favourite thing is playing a charger on a team of three or four chargers and supporting each other from stupid long distances so nothing ever gets close. There's a real sense of bloodthirsty camaraderie. :P

There's actually times where I plan on getting splatted in order to fast back track to a spot I missed after bunny hopping forward bringing the team with me. It feels like such a weird mentality to have, but it works splendidly most matches.

Your friend's list is so selective not even you know how to get on it!

You put the wrong NNID on the spreadsheet.

Wait, for real?
