Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

With clothing items, are the unlockable attributes predetermined, or are they randomly selected upon leveling the item? If it's random, is there a way to reset the attributes, or collect identical looking clothing items? Basically, I don't like the idea of collecting items I like the look of, only to be stuck with attributes I don't care for, and I'm wondering if there's a way around that.

Also, what level do you start getting three star clothing items in the stores?

At level 20, you can re-roll the sub skills (main skills are fixed). I think you get three-star items in the early teens? I can't remember anymore. You can also order them via Spyke if you see anyone with three-star items in the lobby.

When you're level 20, you can also add slots to lower-star gear for a whopping 30,000 per slot.

It's a much more fun mode in my opinion. So you're
Missing out

Yeah if teams are evenly matched, it can be so much fun. I kind of wish Turf War was apart of Ranked though. Just for variety sake. Plus, I do think, some players are more skilled at Turf War.

I played Splat Zones all night. Wow! I'm really hooked on this mode now that I better understand how the scoring works.

It also has some unique colors. Like check out my hair after one match. That's not just fresh — it's minty fresh!

Hatsune Miku fresh?

I miss the look I had with that shirt so much:

I just got my Tentatek Fake Contacts and the Shrimp Polo's coming in tomorrow, but I'm definitely at a point where I'm considering not rolling with this stuff just because I like different clothing setups far too much.

Has anyone here found a setup involving the Red Varsity Jacket that they liked/has a specific synergy? Same goes for this shirt here.

Am I the only one sticking with turf war and not even trying ranked because I don't want to stress too hard about losses?

I'm kind of ignoring ranked too, to be honest (got to C+ and I haven't bothered since).

It's not like I dislike it, but I can relax a lot more in turf wars.

Sweet!

Thanks for the detailed info =D

Fake contacts? What is this!?

EDIT: Oh it's just basically an option to wear headgear without..wearing headgear.

I think he's calling you bad.

I don't think it's entirely that, because he admits that everyone has match's where they get paired with an awful team. What he's arguing is, if you are "better than" everyone in your rank on average, you should be able to carry an entire game, even if your team is awful and you are doing well. That if you are truly worthy of going to the next rank, you should be able to rise above a bad team, and carry the entire game for them.

So how is this paintbrush?
I love it!!

...when the other team has it, because each person using it only performs like half a man.

Like I said, those clowns appear on both teams. The only thing in common with the games you played are you.
This is harsh, but true. You can't blame "idiots" for a losing streak. They are on everyone's team. The end result is a mix of weapon choice, synergistic playstyles, skill, and luck.

For example, my playstyle is to rush the middle right at the start and claim some territory as well as beat back their rush (if they have one). If one or two people rush with me, this works great. More often than not, I rush the middle only to see the rest of my team inking every crack in our base. This is bad for my style. So, if I always rush, I am going to get splattered, then complain that my team are "idiots".

Instead, I should change my style to hang back and defend them while they slowly work their way forward. Suddenly, these idiots are now cooperative teammates.

Wow just had a total blast. Played the last two days for a couple of hours to level 10. Liked it very much but thought this would porbably last for a couple of days and then it would get boring.

Only after I started ranked matches today I realized there are different modes, King of the Hill is just the best.

Play for I think 3 hours, went from C- to B- straight by winning idk how many matches in a row. Have a bonus of 17,0 wow. Always had luck with my teammates, but sometimes I just owned the shit out the enemy team. Haha I sound like an asshole but man I'm really proud :)

Awesome game. Now that I read the OT and saw that other modes will release over the sumer I'm hyped even more.

What you can achieve just by clever Squidhopping is amazing. Such a great mechanic.

So I suck, not because of my skill or how I'm forced to pick up my teammates slack, but because I'm paired with a bunch of people that are being bad on purpose?

Dude, that's low.

Don't take it personally. He's not being malicious or trying to be mean. I think he's just defending the rank system, and saying it works as it should. You don't have to agree with him, that's fine. But he's just basically arguing that, even if your team is awful, if you are truly better then everyone within your rank level, you should be able to carry the entire game. You don't have to agree with this, just his perspective. He also made a point that, you can slowly move up the rank, even if you lose 40% of the time. And that's true. I'm moving up the rank (slowly), despite having a handful of matches with awful teammates. Despite having losing streaks. You can still move up.

Also, lol from his point of view, we probably come off as people just whining about how unfair the system is, instead of playing. I had to take a step back, and realize that's what I was doing.

I do understand your frustrations though, and I share them too. I don't entirely agree, but it's fine.

There's a difference between being bad and being better. You may not be bad, but if you're not rising up the ranks then you're not significantly better.

I don't 100% agree with you. But your comments actually helped me personally, and gave me a different perspective. Thanks. Going to stay off GAF all day, and just focus on trying to get to B+

Wish me luck! Going to grind it out hard, and work hard. I'm determined.

EDIT: For the record, I personally think the Rank system is flawed, and I don't agree with his point of view entirely. So I agree with those that have frustrations. At the same time, I think his point is spot on, about being able to chip away at your Rank score over time if you are a good player. As well as, I need to just PLAY the game, and keep at it. At the end of the day, just playing the game more, will increase my chances of getting better, as well as overcoming bad teammates and moving up in the rank.

Oh come on don't be a jerk. You've seen how this game works. It's a team game. If you're randomly paired up with a bad team or a team of disconnects, it's not your fault if you can't win.

I don't think it reflects badly on me as a player if the only time I rank up is if I'm playing with a decent team (or if the other team gets the bad luck instead of me), since this is a team game after all.

It's not incorrect to say that the climb out of C rank can be a tough one through no fault of your own

He didn't say any word about winning every game. No one can't. But If you play better than the current rank you're gonna win about 60% of your games which lets you climp up

Wait.

Don't worry, I had the same problem as you. Went from B to C+ to B-, I'm stuck there now. Got up to 80 and back down. Last match I had two clowns running around the enemy base. While we other two tried to hold a zone.

.52 Gal Deco is a nice alternative offensive weapon for us Splattershot and Aerospray guys who don't want to deviate too much from what makes rapid fire weapons so satisfying.

You probably won't score as many points, but the greater damage and range are a breath of fresh air. The seeker is fucking badass, too. I toss it randomly whenever I can and I get a shocking amount of kills.

Gotta reiterate what a great alternative the .52 Gal Deco is for ranked battles if you're used to the Aerospray like me. It's a much better one-on-one offensive weapon, as well as taking out enemies from a further distance.

I only bring it up again because it seems like lots of people overlook it for some reason. Its rate of fire is also surprisingly decent.

It's head wear consisting of nothing. Basically it's gear abilities without the need for any gear.

Which is super disappointing, since at first they look like they'll give you weird slit-pupil squid eyes more like what Callie and Marie have. But nope, nothing...

This is probably old damned news, but I just figured it out--any time you use your special, it refills your ink fully. I've been hanging onto my echolocators until I'm almost drained in a tense firefight, then clicking them on with no need to reload.

I think it's a neutral statement. Take it what you will.

I have a rule for Ranked:

- 2 Time-Out Loses and I leave.
- 1 Knock-Out and I leave.

So far, i'm 6 and 0 in this group and i've gone to B- 40 with it while they are still C+.

I'm happy!

Even if you lose 50% of your games, you will still rank up eventually, as we seem to always gain more in a win than lose in a loss.

This whole debate reminds me of how virtually all people believe they are above average intelligence.

Makes sense though, I mean this is a team based game. So if you keep getting into matches where your teammates aren't doing what the objective is, it's frustrating and easy to blame it on them as opposed to looking at yourself in the greater context of the system. It's easier to have the mentality you guys are asking, if it was more of a single player centric mode (one that focused on kill count). But Splat Zones is much more Team based even more than TURF IMO.

But as others have said, you can lose 50% of the time, and still rank up. Just have to put in the work. So I think in that sense (if we are stepping back and talking about Ranked system as a whole), I think you guys are right. Everyone has games that are frustrating. Everyone gets paired off with terrible teammates. You can rise above it.

Okay, I'm really logging out now.

The flaw in Splatoon's ranked system lies in the very limited number of hard tiers and how they're spaced out. It makes for a very uneven match-to-match experience and a higher chance factor compared to standard MMR-based systems, as I've illustrated earlier. I'd appreciate counterpoints from the people who seem to have more faith in the system than I.

Sigh, another day of checking the shop and finding 4 pairs of shoes I already own (and I've only bought less than half of them). Seriously game, please just give me the Cherry Kicks, nobody I play with has them available to order from either.

So I finally crawled up Ranking to a B-. Though, when I won a match as B-, I got 12 points, than the next game I won I got 10 points, and the third game I won (all in a row) I only got 8 points.

Why?

Imo ranked is completely luck based. It mostly depends on what weapon setup each team has.

And just now one of my players decided to do a lurk play right at the start of saltspray but got denied so that means we were effectively one man short in trying to take over the zone. Simple stuff like that can cost you games.

Does the hot streak trick for adding/rolling slots still work?

Because the other team you played against had C players?

It's relative to the ranks of your opponents. If you fight all C's it will give you less.

Actually that's only true in the C ranks. So the system already accommodates for that if you want to climb out of that rank.

Yes, but we hear the same complaints at every rank from C- to B+. If these players are so awful, then they should be stuck in C rank for the next few months.

Besides, every player and every weapon has their own objective.

*shrug* This isn't some MLG money game or something. Log on, play, win or lose, just have fun doing your best and improve yourself. If you are already losing consistently as low rank, ranking up only increases your chance of losing. Believe it or not, most of us are not superstars being held back by our teammates, just waiting to hit that magical rank where everyone is skilled and we win purely on our merit. It doesn't exist. For every teammate we whine about, another teammate is whining about us.

A prolific board game designer once said some relevant words:
"The goal is to win, but it is the goal that is important, not the winning."

Oh, it was just a coincidence that - because the matches were right after each other - it looked like I was progressively getting less and less points.

Yup. In my group, there were some B- people and I beat them...got 14 points. When a few got lower rank, I only got 12 for wins.

Damn my avatar is so exploitable

It's easy enough for me to just put it in Paint over things, so yeah. :P

Oh my god I managed to Zone camp an entire round on Blackbelly with the Inkbrush. I didn't even really want to do it - I just wanted to see if it would work. And it did. We won with a complete 100-to-zero knockout.

I feel terrible.

Took me more than 3 hours to go from B+ to A-. That last 10 sure took a while. Think I got 60k in the process. Time for a break.

People who play Splat Zone like Turf War -_____-

I understand covering stuff to fill your special bar but there's no reason for you to be doing that and ignoring the capture point for the duration of the match. 6 win streak where I needed 1 more to get out of the C Rank Trench stopped by a loss streak that put me all the way down to just above C-.
