Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Except every other map doesn't have the middle as centralized/narrow as Arowana Mall.

Arowana Mall has a ton of space for you to activate your special and you can force people out of position by inking over the zone from certain spots. Urchin is harder to retake for me.

made it to B- rank!!

shit's tough, my strategy in ranked is to just stay in the same room for a long time. usually everything will even itself out.

and man, splat zones on port mackerel is crucial. I've finally figured out how to properly play that map. I pretty much ignore both splat zones in the beginning and ink up everything in that middle section in between them so I can be as mobile as possible. then I'll just zip around the lanes and see what's happening and where I can help.

I am also embarrassed to admit that I find this stuff adorable. I blame that one fan art comic of the inklings being shy to "hold tentacles" on a day out that was posted in the fan art thread a while back.

Hey, man! Don't be embarrassed!

I find the whole Inkling appearance and movements adorable and i'm a 23 year old male!

Game's cute in many ways, nothing to hide.

...cept Octoling's are more adorable. Can't get past the Hair (Tentacle..I guess) over eye look.

On the other hand, I need like all the advice in the world for Port Mackerel. What was once my favorite stage is now frustrating as fuck since a large part of my previous strategies gets trounced by the threat of long range fire, weird geography in the main "squares" and few places to build meter if you aren't constantly flailing and being obvious.

Port Mackerel in Turf War is probably the worst map for the Inkbrush honestly. The whole key with the Inkbrush from my experience with it is that you don't restrict yourself to a pathway and manage to find a routine that is easy to adapt and work around. But that doesn't really work in Mackerel which has a very calculated layout where you're bound to run into people better equipped than you are. You're not going to have an easy time painting and fending for yourself.

It's a lot better in Splat Zones because then you can focus on using several pathways as ambush points. No matter which zone you're covering you can put an ink splotch right in front of a container and use them as ambush points if an enemy is coming down your lane. It's a good opportunity to pretty much stab people in the back, and the Sprinkler is good to place around the zones.

they must like Flock of Seagulls

So a few questions for Brush-GAF

- What is your primary mode of movement around stages?
- How do you keep mobile (i.e. how do you manage to stay in your own ink/not run out of ink in key areas when in gotta go fast mode)? When do you diversify your movement between squid, brush, and super jumps?
- Give me a list of all the crazy situations that lead to you having +1000 points consistently in Turf Wars.

-Squid mode. I only use the running brush mode to deal with very small spots of enemies ink.
-Swing the paint brush a few times (for un-inked turf and enemy turf), move forward with squid mode, rinse and repeat. Squid jump to spawn point when you notice the enemy using an ink strike near your spawn. Avoid squid jumping to players on the front lines as chances are they are in combat.
-Once...I got into a match, and EVERYBODY except for one person on the enemies team DCed at the start of the match...I destroyed him...1300 some points to 400 some. I felt sorry for him. Another time (the shopping mall map), I was getting turf near spawn that my team mates missed. The enemy kept sending Ink strikes (I think 4 ink strikes happened in that spot) pretty much to my location (the area right down the first ramp). I would clean up the mess in like 3 secs or so. The enemy was also pushing forward to the area that I was in. Any ink they placed down, I would instantly clean up. My team lost that match, but I had 1100 points at the end of it.

That's exactly what I do on port. My priority is to prevent the other team from gaining lead, then the second we get two frags I storm forward to hopefully take the lead, and then just hold until the timer expires.

That feeling when your slowly inch their way to the enemies' base and had them cornered and trapped.

We pretty much had the entire mapped painted.

Also seem to be out preforming my team as well or at least getting in second place.

I tried ranked one time. Didn't understand what was it all about. Literally.

Our team lost hard.

Returned to Regular.

Saw my first ad for Splatoon today in the most unlikely of places - right before the 18:10 showing of Mad Max: Fury Road at my local cinema.

I was not expecting that!

Called it before launch, and stays true after launch, Arowana Mall is such a shit map for Turf War. Just hold the middle and boom, you win. No reason to push at all.

The Splat Zones version is so much better, despite it being a small difference.

Yeah, i hate Arowana Mall, for diverse reasons, including that. One of the biggest problem too is that, if you're an roller user, you're totally, completely, absolutely fucked, there's almost no chance you gonna do well. Why's that ? I'm not sure, but maybe because the map has a lot of walls, to go to higher zones, and trying to paint them with the roller is absolute hell.

Also, tried Ranked today, and wtf is happening ? Started painting the place but everyone just ignored it. Well, looks like i should read the rules before starting it :P

I don't think my post was very clear. The problem is Arowana Mall's middle point is narrow and has no real good entry way. Yes, every map consists of you holding the middle to try and go for the win, but Arowana Mall is the easiest and safest stage to do that.

But you need to be able to build your special, and Arowana Mall is probably the hardest stage to do that once you actually covered your own half of the map.

Urchin Underpass has a middle spot that is very open and allows you to move more freely and build your special more easily.
Pro tip: Dont fight over the middle. Use the side ally to go around and on the bits at their spawn
You would have to go through the middle to do that and that would be really hard to do once the enemy team gets a hold of it.

The role of the roller on the map is more of a "paint the base" role. Though you could contest for the middle using the roller's splash attack. That's what every (Dynamo) roller does in Splat Zones lol.

I agree, but that just means there's map variety.

But then again I like boring play styles, so I like the map

Yeah, maybe you're right, i tried to be more offensive on the map and got wrecked by the other team most of the times. One time i splat the entire adversary team using the Kraken on the map in one shot tho, one of the greatest moments in the game for me hhahaha :P

I'm hearing something a lot like the theme for Sanctuary Fortress in inkopolis. Someone tell me I'm not crazy.

It's the arcade machine. It has one tune that it randomly plays that (I swear) sounds like the Ing Hive version of the Sanctuary Fortress theme. It's the coolest thing ever for me. :lol

You got the right idea with pushing forward but Port is such a Charger heaven. You just can't be in a lane where a Charger is making a shot. That's the problem. Even if you switch lanes it's rarely enough. Not sure what you're thinking with throwing bombs tbh. The thing is that you should be going for unpredictable movement if you want to best a Charger but it's not such an easy thing to do in that map.
Throwing bombs forces you to move. While you're out of position I move up. How is switching lanes not enough if I'm able to work my way closer?

Be thankful there is no voice chat. You would get xuraed to the heavens along with hate mail from your team.

Painting the floor in splatzone? Smh....
