Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Awesome to see that there is going to be wet weather in, always like to see how games handle the physics of driving in the rain, love the challenge of handling a car in weather like that. Great to see them still aiming for 60fps as a Racer, Forza 5 looked absolutely amazing to me. Just great to see Turn 10 so dedicated to keeping that steady 60fps in a Racer.

Just realised this game will come out around the same time I finish my home cinema.

120" screen should do it justice. Chances of it supporting Dolby atmos (lol)?.

Will go thru my usual cycle for driving games:

- buy into the dream
- wowed by the gfx
- love the game for the first few hours
- then get fed up at how hard I find it to control car games (just can never judge speed well... Whereas I'm fine racing a kart round a track in real life)
- sell and wait for the next driving game

Heh :)

Haha just keep practicing! I always like to play Manual in these games, it seems to get more more focused and have more speed control around corners. And daaayum at that 120" screen, that's gotta be cool.

I suck at driving manual, but I continue to use it anyway because I'd feel like I was pussing out or something otherwise.

inFamous and FH2 have much better still-image quality, Ryse and The Order deal with temporal (pixel crawl in motion) and specular aliasing better.

Unless a game uses super low detail/low contrast assets, a lower resolution's always going to degrade detail and sharpness.

Solid, chunkier geometry's very clean but sub-pixel edges and foliage need an extra TAA pass at least.

I personally didn't notice, though. And, honestly, I think if not for the whole obsession with 1080p, there wouldn't be such a desire to search out imperfections. Just because a game isn't rendering at a particular resolution doesn't mean that there are automatically flaws to be found in its presentation. Although I do admit the kind of obsession to detail that I'm talking about isn't exactly something that is reserved only for games not rendering at a native 1080p, but I guess the titles that don't do so are easier targets for that kind of thing. Doesn't exactly make it right, though, in my opinion. But that's the last I'll discuss anything other than Forza in this thread. :)

I'm rocking 100" currently, it's amazing.

It sounds amazing what turn 10 is about to do with fm6. 1080p60 with these features sounds amazing.

But looking at pcars on x1 was only 900p and struggled with fps. And that pcars is 900p which is 1.4mp and gt6 with 1440x1080 is 1.55mp and has about the same fps struggles but on a ps3 is just really amazing.
I think looking at how pd pushed the ps3 with really new features new to series. Yes its not stable 60fps and full 1080p but it was ps3 for freak sake.
Nurburgring day night and full weather online withfull grid was and still is my best racing experience. It was really ground breaking. Yes it has flaws. But damn its was amazing. And still is.

What im trying to say is. Yes turn 10 does great job but in my eyes there not ground breaking. There just how we in holland would say politicaly correct.
But gt5 was absolutly ground breaking again in my opinion.

And that forza is just about to catch up on gt5's features which is from 2010 says enough.

But im really looking forward to fm6. The better this game becomes the better gt7 will be :D

Edit: better not post under influence of alcohol... postt is a mess.... a well drink on :p
cant seem to remember what my point was for the post...
Ah well fm6 vs hopefully gt7 this year would be amazing :D

This has to be a joke... right?

There is a lot more to a game than its resolution.

Forza 6 will run over 60 at its minimum.

I'm gonna go back and clear out the last handful of career races in FM5 I didn't do in the main progression. The bonus events are still there, but I probably won't get to them, just for free-time's sake.

I hate you both. I'm on a measly 42", with TV speakers.

If you can't appreciate the technical insanity of a game like GT6 on 10 year old hardware then I really don't know what to tell you. I have a full racing setup with three screens and three PS3s. I also connect a crossfired hexacore PC monster into that same setup. A lap around Bathurst sounds and looks better maxed out on a game like Project Cars (as would Forza 6) but not to the extent the massive increase in computational horsepower should. The lighting and polygon pushing power of the PS3 is incredible in the right hands. All at 1440 x 1080 and close enough to 60fps.

If you've got free time I'm planning on having an online freeroam in FH2 tonight (in 2 hours or so) to knock out some of the online bucketlist challenges. Everyone's invited lol.
It would be cool to have some GAF people there.

Dipping into the 30s or less is not close enough.

Forza on Xbox 360 was also capable of three-screen setups and never went under 60 at any time.

Why even enter this thread?

Anyway no matter how good GT7 will look if it handles like 5 and 6, it will be shit.

tell that to them

I'm trying to clear out all the races. I have just over 200 to go which I should get done this week hopefully. No doubt it's a bit of a slog, I'm hoping for a revamped career mode for Forza 6 though.

Thousands upon thousands of people enter that competition, year after year.

Of course by the end of it, they come away with some fairly talented drivers. It's an inherent skill that translates well to racing games, and has nothing to do with how realistic the game in question is.

I've grown up on racing games/sims, as well as being lucky enough to do some actual racing myself, and I would give Gran Turismo a solid 7 in terms of 'realism'.. Forza is honestly just about (at its best) at that level too.

If you're looking for as close as you can get to the real thing, do yourself a favour and download rFactor, Assetto Corsa, iRacing, or even Project CARS. I'm not saying that as some elitist, PC 'master race' spiel or whatever - that's just how it is. Forza and Gran Turismo are not true simulators, the sooner people accept that the better. They are closer to glorified car porn with a good blend of simcade handling.

On topic; it's good to hear Forza is finally bringing weather and time of day in to the mix.

You really think gt5 made them race car drivers, you can't be serious. None of these so call Sims on a console do enough to actually teach you how to drive a real car.

Forza Motorsport 2 almost made me crash a Lamborghini...

It didn't exactly teach me any bad habits, but I had no idea the shock it would be to go from playing at a certain speed in a game to what it would be like to actually drive one of those super cars for real. I was so unprepared for what that type of speed truly felt like that I literally nearly went from being a parked car to almost crashing into two vehicles quite a ways down the street. The take off speed blew me the hell away. I've never exited a car so fast in my life. Someone else, to their supreme satisfaction, had to reverse it back for me and park it up. I was too scared to get back behind the wheel lol.

Wow, that is glorious. Your avatar is so fitting (minus the can)

I have a really nice surround sound (I pieced out each speaker as opposed to buying pre made sets), and a 60 inch 4K TV. Although nothing is 4K, it upscales to UHD and the picture quality is insane. Forza Horizon 2 was jaw dropping on it. I can't even imagine Forza 6. While I use my PS4 heavily, X1's UI and games like Forza, look sublime on it.

I really want to start using my X1 again. Might just buy MCC to hold me over till this release.

But holy god man, 120 inch. I'm so envious. I can't even imagine.

Close enough is not good enough. This is GAF, remember only yesterday people were coming out of the woodwork to scoff at FM6 being 50fps (freakin typo).

PGR4 holds up pretty well if you ask me. This isn't the best representation of the game, the gif isn't very smooth, but damn that game was graphically impressive.

9SOL8OT.gif

This is colour texture and lighting done right, and this is a look that Turn-10 unfortunately cannot or never matched. Shocking that this was on an Xbox 360.

You say your not an elitist and I'll take you at your word but I will question how you have experienced Forza 5. Was it with a wheel? Because Forza 5 is much more difficult with a wheel than Project Cars IMO.

EDIT- Just saw m0dus's post.

I'm not sure there is much else to discuss about the Forza 6 leaks now.

I still think the most interesting part of this is the 3D puddles and their effect on the new physics engine.

I hope the rain drops flow down the cars and dont just stick to the paint, it gives cars a not so fresh feeling when they dont bead off like a properly washed car ;D

There's been so much dick waving in here some people have in fact put their own eyes out.
I could have done without this mental image. :P

Hell yes. I can't wait to feel the pull of letting half of the car run through a deep puddle and fight to keep it stable.

This was another aspect I thought Forza 5 did much better than Forza 4; when you let half the car get stuck off the track, it felt much more harrowing trying to get it back on and keep it stable.

Been thinking about buying the TX. Might jump on it in time for Forza 6.

I wish old wheels were compatible :(.

My 360 Playseat setup has been with my cousin since the X1 hit. I keep thinking "I need to get my setup back." I then remember I need a new wheel and pedals. Gotta figure out how to explain that one to the wife...lol.

As unrealistic as I know it is, if there was some solution for legacy wheel support shown off as part of the F6 stage presentation, they'd bring the house down.

Nobody else wants to see more realistic and natural looking cockpit driver animations? I want to see that more than anything.
Wheel turning and shifting animations could be done better, but the driver already stretches his fingers once in a while to avoid cramps which is pretty cool.

Outside of lack of windshield, that crab hands were my biggest complaint when it comes to in cockpit view. It's much better now in Forza 5 though.
Sometimes it looks not too good on thinner wheels but other than that it is fine.

Wow. Thought I was coming into this thread to read some juicy F6 info, instead find people arguing about how awesome GT6 was on 10 year old hardware.

seriously?

I love a good slash and burn as much as the next man, but damn if some of you can't hear others over your own insecurity.

You'll start noticing people disappear shortly. Also, it almost goes without saying, no more discussion of any other games besides the Forza series in this thread. There's been so much dick waving in here some people have in fact put their own eyes out.

Thank you for this

So you don't think Turn 10 wouldn't have the ability to implement those features you are mentioning if they didn't make it a priority to have their game stay at 60 FPS?

Before even talking about fps targets, I think the main problem with having dynamic lighting is that it would require a complete engine overhaul. And with the current development cycle Forza is going through, it does not seem realistic. If they pull off dynamic weather and lighting, huge respect, but it is pretty unlikely. Keep in mind that even Forza 1 had static night conditions.

SMH lol... Why would you go full throttle in a Lambo without getting to know the car first.

I dont usually pay attention to that, but shifting animations have to be hard by nature. The animation is reacting to your input instead of happening before like real life.

It caught me off guard. I barely touched it, but the jolt of speed shocked me so much that my foot went down on the accelerator even further, and I was off like a rocket. I just barely managed to gather myself and step on the breaks (amazing breaks btw) before I ran into two vehicles lol.

#bless - I've been reading this thread and I am excited but didn't want to post. Was getting annoyed by all the GT talk in here when this is clearly about Forza.

My man!

I'm rocking a 100' screen too. Once you go with projectors you can't really go back. Shame affordable 4K projectors seems so far off.

My 1080p LED is pretty nice, plus I dont get to much sunlight in my living room helps. I do consider going the paint on wall route to go bigger.

Haha. Certainly jealous, never got the chance to drive a Lambo.

Forza 1 was also 30fps.

Yeah, and on ancient hardware.
