Well, they needed something to diversify the lineup. That 'shooterbox' mentality has been dogging Xbox for a long time now, even if there are aspects of it that are sort of true. Games like Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Madden sell better on Xbox. I suppose this is an attempt to diversify their portfolio and show hardcore gamers that they care.

It's a new IP, smaller potential user base, and Japan and Xbox are like water and oil. It would have to be a critical darling to sell respectable amounts, but that's not out of the question.

I'm not so sure that'll remain true. Didn't Hardline sell better on PS4? Beginning of the reversal if you ask me.

Ha, true but there's difference between dipping your toe in the water and diving in.

Just needs that little push.

I see it as you can go around the entirety of the witcher 3's world and come upon many beasts that are basically bosses in and of themselves, find all types of treasures, and go on many side quests that take you all over the place. From what I've seen of ubisoft you're always an overpowered demigod that only really ever has story and equipment come from the main quest.

Really? I mean, I agree about the story. I just don't understand the point about open world design. Every zone I've seen seems to be the same icon hunt that Ubisoft games have. The copy pasted "clear out the enemies to bring life back to the world!" crap got annoying at the 5 hour mark.
This is really only relevant if you're going out of your way looking for POIs.

Why wouldnt scalebound sell?If it is a good game then why not? It has dragons after all

I'd love for it to do well, but Sunset Overdrive failed to respond with the audience. That's a similar vein of action game, with an identical artstyle & attitude, from an established developer with even more of a presence in the US.

It seems like the genre just doesn't flourish on XBox. Honestly, it seems like it doesn't 'flourish' anywhere. Platinum would probably be better off trying to hit as many platforms as possible.

They just want that mind-share and market-share. Help make a case to investors and boss that the mini-division inside the division is still in a salvageable state.

You think Platinum games is the developer for that? I think it's more about diversifying their line-up.

Platinum's biggest success story is Rising. I'm sure they want another crack at that. Rising is actually the second best selling character action game ever in Japan, only trailing the original DMC.

So guys remember that "omg announcement incoming at 6pm PT" thing that was happening by the twitter dude that wasn't verified, surprise surprise, it didn't happen. According to the guy, there was supposed to be a hype video from Sony teasing stuff for next week, showcasing the games we know of already, but "a single frame" in the video had something that looked like The Last Guardian.

So glad I didn't hype this little development up.

Lol. If there is a Last Guardian trailer with a release date GAF will go down hard.

They don't need one. Platinum games are adored by the hardcore audience, but they don't sell. Like, at all. The only decent seller was Metal Gear and that was because of the name behind it.

Vanquish flopped.

Wonderful 101 flopped.

Bayonetta 2 flopped.

You heard it here first, I'm 100% sure Scalebound will flop. Japanese games and Xbox don't mix. Add Platinum to the stew and you've got a bomb on your hands. If Sony wanted a game to woo the hardcore and lose money, then sure, get Kamiya on speed dial. But that's not necessary, because they've already won over all the hardcore gamers. Partnering with studios like Capcom and From make a lot more sense because they have profitable IPs that can sell and build brand awareness.

More like they got lucky that MS and Nintendo fucked up so badly in the beginning, PS4 automatically became the go-to platform for casuals that need their yearly AC and CoD fix.
Which is probably why so many people want an exclusive PG game funded by Sony, since from a hardcore gamer's perspective, the PS4 might just be the most underwhelming market leader within this amount of time on the market. The console's arguments seem to both start and then end with Bloodborne, especially in an age in which many hardcore gamers got a PC for multiplats. Yes, these games bomb, but it also wouldn't hurt Sony to improve their exclusive lineup too.

Personally, I don't care where the PG games go, as long as they keep getting miraculously funded (okay, I might not be happy if they'd go mobile).

i think there will be a teaser for the last guardian. People will be disappointed when no new gameplay is shown and the teased release date is December 2017.

With this much time passed they want a proper rereveal just like FF XV so gameplay for sure, if it happens at all.

Also i still think in 2009 Playstationlifestyle forced Sony's hand when they leaked the project Trico footage.

Are people still fucking sore about PS4's success?

IGN is going to "premiere gameplay" for the Platinum game they are not reveling the game, also they are showing it on Tuesday Nintendo's day after they are done.

The person you quoted is correct. I'll go one further and say that the PS4's success revolves around its initial 100 dollar price difference with Xbox One, the horrifying Xbox One reveal/Kinect/DRM/omg I can't buy or sell used games (which some idiots still believe, btw) etc, and Nintendo's lack of third party support. It really had nothing to do with available games or resolution (no matter what some claim, most people don't care). That initial momentum is nigh impossible to counter, even with price and content.

So it was successful by having the games people wanted to play at a cheaper price + none of of the bullshit it's competitors had.

They do not deserve the success though!

I like how PG games count as "hardcore" but when you mention the crap load of Japanese games coming exclusive to PS4 its like no those games are too niche. You cannot get more niche then PG.

Well, yes, I believe being the cheaper console with no bullshit DRM policies plus having the most games and the most variety of games is precisely why it's successful and what most gamers probably wanted.

Well all are valid points. But you have missed one big reason why people favors Sony over Xbox and that is Sony's first party games. Say what you want, but Sony first party games have always been diverse.

Yes, but you're missing what he said. He said it was underwhelming for hardcore gamers. The biggest games are multiplatform. The big exclusives haven't really been that great in general compared to previous generations of consoles. On any of the current gen platforms at that.
