Err, your post said you did 3-player "co-op."FFA on Valhalla, yo.
8/10343 and Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Halo culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame and especially SPLIT SCREEN COOP are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in other fps games where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Halo, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the Halo public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Halo 5 for Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of 343i's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but 343i has alienated an entire market with this move.
343i, publicly apologize and put in SPLIT SCREEN COOP for Halo 5 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
You have to be trolling
Let's pretend we know the numbers.
75% play multiplayer
50% play campaign
5% play split screen
Can you still not nuderstand why cutting split screen is not the same as cutting campaign? Like, fucking really?
The number of people who play competitive multiplayer is greater than the number of people who play campaign.
We DON'T know the numbers & yet some of us are somehow using unknown statistics to justify the removal of a mode that's been around since day 1. I was presenting an analogy that demonstrates just how absurd of a reasoning that is.

Yes, we don't know the numbers precisely. 343i does however... and they are the ones who made the decision.
Does it suck? Yes. Did the framerate have a part to play in why it is gone? Most likely. Is your argument absurd? Also yes.

If you don't know the numbers, then how are you qualified to say that more play MP than campaign?
But yeah, we don't know, which is why I litterally said lets pretend we do
But yes, you were presenting an analogy, I merely pointed out that it was flawed.
cant we check how many people unlocked single player trophies compared to multiplayer? I'm sure this would resolve this issue.
On PS4 we can check a % to see, is there nothing like this on xbox? or the website?
Consoles get more powerful yet less capable it's funny.
I heard this thread went to hell fast, but I guess I forgot how some people like yourself probably consider this a Bungie vs 343 war.Absolutely the biggest reason I've had so much respect for Halo games in the past. Playing Halo 3 multiplayer with three other friends together in the same room was the only reason we played it for years. Split-screen co-op is also a classic Halo feature now gone forever (assuming the game sells like I believe it will). It was the in-person real social interaction that made these games amazing.
But this isn't surprising. Halo 4 and this game aren't true Halo titles. To me, Halo died when Bungie said they were finished. The same way the original Infinity Ward said they were done making CoD games after Activision forced them to make MW2.
Unfortunately most people (and apparently many GAF members) and thus of course Microsoft are unwilling to let this franchise die an honorable death. With the removal of these iconic features, it will become easier for people to see classic Halo isand has beendead for almost a decade.
I laughed hard way to hard at this joke343 and Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.

i'm aware but i'm addressing this sentiment that couch co-op as a whole is something that few people go in for anymore.
Everyone i know when buying a new shooter, there first question is always "is it splitscreen so i can play it with misses/kids/mates.because fewer people are interested, or because they have no choice because developers and publishers are dropping the feature and pushing people towards online?
Poor comparison, for a couple reasons.
First, Halo actually did make a special kind of splash with console online multiplayer back in 2004; it was a big deal because it drove the rise of a new market in the video game industry.
Second, you're talking about different sorts of things. Whether or not something can be networked online and whether or not something can be done split-screen are different sorts of issues. Not sure about today, but during Reach's main run I remember seeing tons of guest accounts in MM, yet the fact that competitive split-screen was available wasn't a major topic of discussion even though tons of people were doing it (except for the discussions about playlist split-screen availability, since people on both sides had some manner of active inconvenience or another).

That regardless of whether your conclusion is right, your argument does a poor job of establishing the premise about the low popularity of split-screen co-op.I don't even know what you're arguing about.
Maybe its not as insignificant as some people like to believe.
It's obviously a case of damned if they do, damned if they don't, because had they included it with half he frame rate, less effects etc, then there will be another thread on how incompetent 343i are because of it.
They do actually.Guess it's a good thing 343 have a good track record with online campaign co-op I gue...
Oh...
But you know, screw options, right? I don't use them, and the ten Halo fans I know don't use them. That's like 99% of gamers.
What about coop custom games?
No LAN? Every single major Halo game so far has LAN![]()
I'm not saying it's insignificant, I'm really disappointed by the lack of it. More commenting on the internet's love of complaining. There was a lot of extremely positive news from the GI article and the only thing which has gained any real traction here is a negative comment.
Coop campaign is awesome. Played it a lot with my dorm mates.Shame. Only reason I picked them up was to play through them co-op locally.
I know I'm a super minority. *Or not
No. Pretty much all split-screen games have tradeoffs, and have had them for decades. It's a well understood and accepted concept. If you want full blown IQ and framerate, you play single screen. If you want to have fun with a local buddy, some sacrifices have to be made. The mere presence of split-screen as an option has no bearing on the graphics of the single-screen mode of play.
