Halo splitscreen co-op RIP 2001-2015

So fuck the next generation of kids right?
Man ya'll are crazy

I play with my friends online too, the ones that live out of state.

But this whole 'want to play with your local friends? We have an answer for that, a $350 Xbox live gold card" is ridiculous

While I agree with your post in principle, the "next generation" of kids aren't in the same boat we were.

In 2001. I didn't have any other option aside from split screen. Ditto in the 90s with Mario Kart. Once options appeared and bigger better TVs and graphics came along, split screen for ME disappeared.

I would never in a million years choose to impede my view of a game and deal with the performance hit if I don't have to. Id wager the next generation of kids who are in a position to acquire a next gen console are in a similar boat.

Especially given how bratty and selfish kids seem to get with each passing generation.

In the end, Microsoft fucked up. They made a pissweak console and are paying for it. They've put themselves in a position where they have to choose.

Do we get chewed out over graphics which a LOT of people seem to care about? Or get chewed out over co op which not many realistically use?

I think the problem is... Because certain out spoken people here still don't split screen, they think it's this dying thing, yet the fps sales champ is coming out with a 4 player split screen two weeks later (2 player split screen on last gen consoles)

So yeah, it's kind of shitty knowing the game you use to play split screen with your buds since CE, will no longer have it.

A lot of things are changed from the past as people bring up, competition and choices being one or them. I'm definitely interested by Warzone more than mp, enough to have me purchase the game.. but now halo 5 will be a used game purchase from gamestop instead of a day 1 purchase. Guess I'll have to 'give in' and see if my friends decide to buy a Xbox one or not. Kind of a tall order to ask someone to purchase a console just for halo though. Especially when it did not matter the last few entries

Every Halo release me and a friend of mine have played it co-op split screen. Since the night the original Xbox came out actually. With Halo 3's release we switched it to 4 player co-op with 2 separate consoles in the same house. So yeah, i would say this is a huge bummer because i don't know that many people who own Xbox Ones to have them all over.

Guess I won't be playing Halo 5 unless it drops on PC. Playing split screen is how I've beaten every Halo (and Gears). Bummer to hear it won't be in.

Seems so unnecessary. I don't think many people are awed by the graphics in this installment anyways, and now we lose split screen over lackluster graphics. Lame

It's a shame to see it go but I honestly haven't touched split screen Halo in years. When folk come over for Halo at my place now they bring their own console/TV. If the trade off is more open environments and a better performing game I'll gladly (selfishly?) give up splitscreen.

What's stopping them from scaling the graphics/performance when split screen is in use like so many other devs have done since forever? Seems to me like a BS excuse to cut a core feature of the franchise.

My guess is that it would compromise too much. We've already seen that MCC struggles with split screen at 60fps and H5 is pushing better graphics, more players, and likely more complex systems. It's not like the last couple Halo games have had great split screen performance at 30fps after being scaled down, anyway.

Disappointed at the decision, but it seems necessary to hit their target.

I have halo nights when the wife is out of town and split screen between 2-3 xboxes and 4-6 guys were a bladt. Not having split screen is going to mean more drinking and less playing halo.

I don't think I can host halo night if all we have is halo 5...

Somehow I think you'd be fine if Halo 5 were 30fps, like every other Halo game was on release.

Smoother gameplay or whatever isn't worth dropping a feature that hugely increases the game's co-op possibilities.

For someone that doesn't use that feature it is. I sympathize with those that want and use splitscreen, and maybe it's a little selfish, but I don't use it and if it was a one or the other situation, I'd choose framerate.

I think its really sad that this is the only active/visible thread that being discussed about something Halo 5 given that Halo OT is locked now.

I get that people want that feature and I respect that, But do you all know that there isn't any thread at all where we can actually discuss Halo 5 beside the splitt screen and DF *60FPS issue ? So the only thing we got is negative active threads? Really? Is this how Halo fans are?

None of you Halo Fans want to discuss Like I don't know, What will we play first? Weapons, Modes, story, Spartans, speculation, ending, vehicles, post some gifs, pictures, blue team, new characters, MASTER CHIEF god damit.

It's really sad that the only thread we got is about all negativity.

I hope someone will make a thread about the game so we can actually have fun discussing it and looking forward to it.

Really disappointed with us really. That's what's Halo to you? Thats whats video games to you guys? Frames and splitt screen?

Please someone make a thread so we can discuss the game, and the ones who wants to discuss the frames and splitt screen can stay on those threads. Please.

Who cares tbh? I wouldn't sacrifice splitscreen for that.

I would. Again, selfishly, as someone who's game time is limited and who has the ability to play online with his Halo friends, I not only don't have to deal with guests during ranked/social play, but I'm promised a stellar single screen experience at 60FPS.

Like Frank said, the numbers aren't trivial, but they were probably low enough based off of the data they had on Reach, Halo 4, MCC and the H5 beta, that while losing split screen sucks, it won't impact the majority of players as much.

While overall as a collective, it's good to have options and keep the series as accessible for everyone, at the end of the day, there is self-interest at play here. You'd remove a smoother game play experience for all players so you could have split screen, it's the same concept. Almost all friends I play Halo with, 15 years from CE launch are through online. If I'm promised dedicated servers, 60fps and the tradeoff is split screen, I'm okay with that.

Yeah but the narrative surrounding why MCC was so bad over the last few months was that 343i really had little to do with MCC, there was 5 other studios touching it, blah blah blah. What if 343i themselves actually try to do it, or I guess they tried but couldn't pull it off? I'll just blame them being pigeon holed into releasing this holiday.

in terms of halo, definately.! as i do not intend to pay for another online subscription and i'm not some "devoid of real-life interaction" hermit, halo IS split-screen for me. without it it's worthless. it's a short lived campaign i'll play once on legendary and never again.

This is a thread on the removal of split-screen and how that affects how some fans play the game. I was honestly looking forward to finally picking up an XB1 and H5 but this seriously makes me reconsider it.

If you'd like some discussion on the game itself, hit up the community threads :)

Sure, that's a fair point. Like I said, though, it's not like split FPS was very good in H4 and this is pushing a lot more.

It's on a whole new generation of hardware though. The devs have a little more to work with, but they made their priorities. After making co-op shit in Halo 4, they noticed not many people used it, and decided to cut it.

There shouldn't be any narrative. If your name is listed on a game, you're responsible for how that game turns out.
