Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

If I understood it correctly, and from the information we have, the investor will chip in with another $5m after the kickstarter has ended, so they'll end up with roughly $10m.

Yeah, 5mil was the number being spoken of in the early days, but don't think the 5mil from kickstarter will all go towards development. A large chunk of it will go into production (they are selling physical copies) and the editor probably has planned to keep the rest as profit on selling these copies.

That's my "glass half empty" perspective on this anyways.

Regardless this is the biggest budget Iga's ever had to work with on this type of game right? I think it was stated at some point but I'm not sure.

I don;t think it's actually been stated but I can't imagine any of the games he worked on that I've played touching that budget. Which would pretty much be everything he's done aside from Elder Gate.
 
Now we need <900k for all stretch goals.

The gameplay footage, the final stretch, the announcement of armature opening up UE4 to other devs... It's a very very real possibility. I hope we get there.

Q: You left Konami in 2014. How’s life as an indie developer been treating you since? Now that you don’t have the backing of a large company any more, do you find yourself worrying about finances or how to put food on the table?
It takes guts to leave a stable job behind and strike out on your own, so I’m curious what your experience has been?


A: As far as my reasons for going independent… I think it’s quite obvious that I hadn’t been able to move any of my designs forward at my previous employer. While that was happening I saw what Inafune-san was doing on Kickstarter, and shortly after that his agent reached out to me, saying we should try to find a way for me to make the games I loved to work on.

This makes me glad and it's the reason why I back projects on KS. Sure, I'm happy to get the game but I want Devs to seriously consider public funding. It's why despite all the backlash, I'm happy that MN9 got made (putting aside that I enjoyed the beta)

There wouldn't be Bloodstained without MN9.

I'm eager to see what Bloodstained's success will, in turn, result in.

If it's not Harmony of Despair style co-op, I don't know what they could realistically add.
 
Will I get crucified if I say that the only Castlevania game I've ever played was Harmony of Despair? If Bloodstained had anything pointing that it'll have a mode like that, I'd back this hard.

The Online Challenge Mode (which we've hit) already sounds a lot like HOD.

  • Team up with a friend online in both co-op and versus modes
  • Power through specially designed stages by clearing challenges, killing enemies, collecting items, and more
  • Battle extra-powerful bosses which drop rare items
 
I still can't believe we're getting Harmony of Blood. This game will be ridiculous.

Is it too early to claim GOTY 2017?

As much as the project goals have expanded is the original 2 year estimate even feasible any more?

Have they given any indication on when they intend to ship? I just watched the last video. Having just made a Metroidvania with Ori, my guess would be that it'll take them a good 3 years time to finish it if what they've shown there is the current state of the game. Having to ship on multiple platforms at once also isn't a cakewalk.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game slipped into 2018.
 
My guess for the $5Million goal is the level editor. I don't think we're going to make it, though. Which is honestly fine, I'm already beyond happy with what is here.
 
Have they revealed Miriam's voice actress yet? I hope they don't make her a mute "blank slate". She deserves a personality and a background.

Who'd you like to voice her in English? I'd love another MGS alumni to voice her too so I'll have to say Jennifer Hale for Miriam!
 
52 hours left.,. Time has really flown by. It feels like just yesterday swordorwhip.com went up. I can't believe it's almost over. I hope they maintain a really detailed development blog.
 
Or if they can't get Jennifer Hale for Miriam I hear that that woman who voiced Samus in Other M did a spectacular job!

Of course, I'm kidding. Other M sucks.

Kari Wahlgren, she voices Emma Frost in Marvel Heroes and does an awesome job. Alternatively Maria Canals, who did She-Hulk in MvC3. Tara Strong would work too I guess.

I don't believe any of the Igavania games had mute blank slate characters. Alucard, Leon, Hector, Soma, Charlotte, Jonathan, and even Shanoa had their own personalities.

That is every main Iga included, of course I didn't factor side character such as Julius or Yoko, but still.

I don't expect Miriam to be lacking a personality.
 
In all games she appears in, Shanoa was voiced by Michelle Ruff. She'd be cool. Karen Strassman who did Yoko in CVHD and Carmilla in Judgment would also work.
 
idk about that, she's obviously a Shanoa-clone and Shanoa's whole 'personality' was that she didn't have a personality because her emotions were stolen from her.

Also Cristy Vee for VA plz.

Having Amnesia and having your emotions stolen from you are two very different things.

Miriam could very well be an emotional character despite not remembering her past.
